When has the NFL ever been about rational. they will do whatever they can to improve their failing image and long suspension for brady appeases the public and other owners. They know brady will and get it reduced so why not drop a big hammer to gain public credibility.

Yeah, it's an odd one. It is pretty much indisputable that PEDs impact on-the-field performance more than the absolute highest psi leakage they have on record, 0.7. When something is unusual - such as Ray Rice or Big Ben (or better yet, Atlanta and Cleveland from this past year) - the league has historically come in below expectation with their initial rulings, so this would inconsistent with that as well.

Basically, the only factor that would warrant such a high punishment is that it is Tom Brady or that he is an employee of the Patriots. I can't find anything else at play here.
