Re: First full pads practice in 3 weeks: Talib & Amendola present/Kelly & Washing...

Edelman is bigger, stronger, faster, quicker, more elusive, and has at least equal hands to Amendola. Amendola couldn't have made that sick punt return last week if his life depended on it.

Edelman is one inch shorter and three pounds heavier than Amendola.

Edelman is arguably the best punt returner in the NFL, but that doesn't mean he is a better WR when both players are healthy. You can't compare what he does n punt returns to Amendola as a wide receiver.

If what you did on punt returns said anything about how good of a WR you are, guys like Devin Hester and Josh Cribbs would be Pro Bowl WRs.

Sounds like a comparison to Welker instead of Amendola. You certainly can't claim he's bigger, stronger, quicker and has better hands than Amendola.

Why not? He is.

No, you certainly can't.

It is unfortunate that Amendola has not been able to see much of the field so far, as his week 1 performance was great. It showed the potential that he brings as a very good short/medium field WR.

Edelman is a terrific punt returner, and has proved to be a security blanket of sorts for Brady this year due to the offense's struggles and the absence of Gronk/Amendola, but Julian Edelman is nowhere near a more complete WR than Danny Amendola.

One was a player who no one else wanted and signed a contract for peanuts, while the other was one of the most highly coveted slot receivers in the entire free agent class. A guy who warranted more long term (not short term) money than even Wes Welker. Anyone who views Edelman as a more complete WR obviously hasn't followed the career of Amendola at all.

Unfortunately, none of it will matter too much if he's not able to stay on the field more in the future, as any strengths will be going to waste on the bench or in the tub.

None of that matters, because he's not better.

When healthy amendola is a better receiver no question. He has history of being a productive receiver in the NFL. While edelman is having a breakout year, no one really expected it(although you could see last year he was ready to break out before his injuries derailed him.)

But does it really matter? I want to see both of them on the field together tearing it up like they did in week 1.

I'm pretty excited about the prospect of seeing Brady with 3 guys he trusts in amendola, edelman and gronk out there at the same time for the first time all season

Re: First full pads practice in 3 weeks: Talib & Amendola present/Kelly & Washington

When has Amendola ever been all that productive? He couldn't stay healthy long enough to do so.

Edelman's shown more in his sample of play than Amendola has in his. It's clear Edelman's the better athlete, and his upside is much bigger.

Well, there was that one year when he led the NFL in kickoff and punt return yardage, along with snagging 85 catches.

He also had his 63 catches last year while only starting 8 games.

Actually, his worst year he had 43 catches, so he's been pretty damn productive in 2/3 seasons with 63 catches or more.

The much better question would be "when has EDELMAN ever been all that productive?" Unless of course, you're referring to those seasons of 7, 4, and 21 receptions aside from his rookie year with an earth shattering 37.

All together now: "C'mon man!!!"

Good work unearthing this thread. If there was one game on the schedule when Brady and McDaniels needed all their weapons, tonight's game is the one. Not just the receivers, but the running backs. Blount is for real; Ridley and Vereen are a terrific change of pace duo.

Vereen had a good game coming back against the Panthers, and we watched an offense that moved the ball on every possession against a top 5 nfl defense. The Broncos defense is a second tier outfit.

The Denver run defense numbers are bogus. When you put 40 on the board every game, teams stop running the ball, or only do so as an occasional change of pace. Look for the Patriots to gash these guys tonight with the run. The hurry-up helps becuase, once you get a pass defense sub-package on the field, the running game opens up immensely.

In the passing game, Brady has legitimate weapons in all five receivers with very different sizes, speeds and skill sets. This is the game when they have to see the matchups and exploit them. No way does Denver have the personnel to match up with Dobson, Edelman, Amendola, Thompkins and Gronkowski.

Snagging 85 catches...for 8.1 yards/catch. That's utterly horrible. It doesn't get much worse than that. Any receiver in the league could do that if you target him enough on cheesy underneath passes.

Last season could have been good...but he got hurt. Like he always does.

I'm talking about what Edelman has shown this year. He's already doing anything Amendola ever did, and he hasn't even scratched the surface of his potential as he's barely been given a chance on screens and other shorter passes where he can use his elite RAC ability.
