So I was looking at another thread asking which guys to keep on the front 7 for next year and I was surprised to see that Moore wasn't getting more love (I know bad pun).

His effort yesterday was something that couldn't go unnoticed. Although he only totaled 3 tackles (2 solo, 1 assist), he also forced a fumble and was pressuring the QB all day. So far his stats this year are: 4 games played, 9 solo tackles, 5 assists, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and a pass defensed. These are NFL career highs.

It looks to me as though he is getting a handle on this D pretty quickly and making plays. Something that not too many other guys lined up on the outside are doing. I think Moore is going to be a big factor for the Pats D in the playoffs by getting more pressure on the QB by taking some of the double teams off of Big Vince et al.

For others that are better at breaking down players and how they are performing do you agree with my limited football IQ assessment?

Hell Yeah!!!! with multiple exclamation points. I remember how so many people down the years were always finding excuses for Burgess and Thomas their first year on how hard it was to grasp this defense. This guy gets it from day one and performs amazingly well. Hopefully, we have him locked up for next year already.

Someone mentioned it during the game thread (forgot who but they deserve the credit) he's basically what AD was supposed to be. Moore has shown his versatility thus far playing DE in sub packages, OLB in the base 3-4, and even playing the 5 tech vs Bills. He's been very productive.

What a great mid season pickup!

I love the level he is playing. I had always wondered if a normal guy off the streets would not have played better than Adelius Thomas last year.
I wish him well and hope he puts in a performance in the playoffs that will make us not go for any big time pash rusher in FA or draft.
I love this team and no matter what, I am content for the season

I think he has saved the Pats bacon these past few games in the sub-packages. The pass rush from the line that they lost with Pryor and Wright he has provided

    Hes played very well.

The way he's been playing, I can't believe he wasn't on a NFL roster this year.
    He's been a playmaker.

It's just amazing to me that BB is consistenly able to plug new guys in and they become productive. I think that in iteself shows once again, that BB is THE best coach ever. This definitely is his best coaching job ever and if he doesn't get coach of the year, it will be a travesty.

Moore is just another successful example of what great coaching can do.

Helps add depth to the DL especially as a pass rush specialist. Great story.

Moore has been a huge, huge surprise. Back when he was drafted (2005, 6th round) the word on him was that he was a good athlete with some explosiveness as a pass rusher, but had challenges in the mental side of the game -- difficulty reading plays, and a learning disability that made it tougher for him to pick up a new playbook. But here he is, dropping into the team in the middle of the season and making an immediate impact. Tremendous.

He has excellent size for the position and seems to play with a nice aggressiveness. It will be fascinating to see what he can do with the benefit of a Patriots offseason program and training camp.

My wife is really trying to get into the Patriots this year, and she is really impressive. She can identify like 15-20 players on the team now (this is the first time she started watching football.) Anyway, we have a running joke, because I'm having enough trouble trying to explain to her the roles of non-star players and have her remember their names. All of a sudden, as I'm talking to her about how Wilfork draws two blockers, stops the run, etc., and start talking to her about the other big guys like Brace and Warren, she suddenly points to the screen and says "then who the heck is that guy Eric Moore!" And I look at her and say, "yeah, who the **** is Eric Moore?" Then he makes two more plays in a row, after I've already told her that there's no one else significant on the defense.

It's just been that kind of year. Everyone who suits up is an instant star.

Ok, well I'm not ready to anoint Eric Moore a 'star' yet. But he has certainly been a bright spot on defense. Hopefully he can keep it up. Because pressuring the QB is so important in this league. I saw BB also mix things up a bit, the straight up the gut blitz by Mayo was extremely effective and should have drawn an intentional grounding flag imo. The Pats defense as an overall unit is starting to play up to their potential. They have allowed less than 10 ppg over the last 5 games. This is the perfect time for them to step up and play their best football.

Eric Moore is hungry and it shows in his play out there. He is the exact opposite of burgess. Good motor, high energy and seems to leave it all out there on the field. Great job by whatever scout proposed this to BB.

The Pats scouts must roam pretty far. Did you know that previous to being picked up by New England, Eric Moore had been playing in the UFL for the Florida Tuskers?

To be clear, Eric Moore is a keeper and should be re-signed.

I agree, I am not ready to anoint him a star at this point either but if he continues to be as solid as he has been the past few games and even improve a little I think we haven't seen the best of this Pats D yet.

I did know that he was picked up by the Pats from the UFL and I wonder if that experience helped him with his NFL career. His previous seasons in the NFL never gave him in game experience. You have to wonder if the UFL was the difference for Moore.

wow. I wonder how he's gotten past the learning disability -- is it just more experience or are the coaches working with him in a specific way? Because his ability to pick it all up has been amazing.

The human mind is amazing. It could be meds, memory exercises or other activities that help him better compensate for his condition or have at least educated him on techniques that help him be able to comprehend and retain information.

Either way, he is a great story!

If that in any way is true, I hope he is as good as picking up what not to do from Spikes as he is the playbook!

Has anyone noticed that Moore seems to play alot more(hehe) than Cunningham? I am very impressed with Moore.
I have been impressed with Cohen because he seems much quicker with his first step than most of the other DL. Cohen seems much more suited as a 4-3UT. I like Pryor as a pass rusher, but Cohen is much quicker and gets more push.

My predictions for the front 7 next year.
    DL-Wilfork, T.Warren, G. Warren, Brace, Cohen, Love, Rookie (7)

OLB- Nink, Cunningham, Moore, Rookie(Kerrigan) (4)

ILB- Mayo, Spikes, Guyton, Fletcher, White (ST) (5)
