Keep this in mind the next time you see Edelman making a catch. He is so far ahead of Welker at the same point of their careers. Welker had no receptions his 1st year with the Chargers and Dolphins. Edelman already has 15 and probably will eclispe the total of 29 that Welker had with the Dolphins in his second season.

who needs galloway when you have edelman, I wish brady would have continued throwing to both but he seemed to focus solely on welker the second half.

Great point. I think it will be interesting if they start getting them both involved simultaneously during the game. Both are great at getting open, and since they both tend to work the middle of the field hopefully it will give Moss some more chances deep and Brady will start hitting him. This has been a great thing to watch him develop - definitely one of the positives so far this season.

Of course, Welker had zero catches his first season because the LOLphins are morons. . . .

I don't know how many downs Edelman played in the second half. This is yet another blunder in the offensive gameplan/adjustments. They went away from the effective underneath and crossing routes in the second half and went further downfield, throws that Brady wasn't making.
Edelman played only 13 snaps yesterday. Don't think he saw much run in the 2nd half.

I like Edelman a lot but I think we're stocked up on short WRs now. He's 5-10 and Welker is 5-9. :)

You're mixing your scales. If Welker is 5'9", WWMM is 6'. If Edelman is 5'10", then Welker's 5'7". :)

I too wish Brady would use the third receiver more. It will help stress the defense some.

I think opposing Defense respected our running game more when Taylor was in the backfield.

This point might have more validity if at the end of the season Edelman could rack up 1,879 all-purpose yards, which Welker managed to do while playing for both San Diego and Miami. Two teams who should be kicking themselves for gross stupidity above and beyond the call of duty.

Edelman should be used more I think to extend and strech defenses which will give Welker more room over the middle, Moss able to be a little more active and to even open up the running game. Streching the defense would do a lot for this offense.

Is Edelman fast enough and skilled enough to stretch defenders. Watson does fine in that role.

I really like Edelman. He is showing alot for a guy who has been a QB all along.

My GF said yesterday that she thinks he is the reason BB didn't go after another QB. I never even thought of that.

    Go Pats!

As long as Welker plays like he has the last two years, I can't see him going anywhere. I just can't see him demanding Moss-type money at age 30.

What are you saying? That Edelman is Brady's replacement? That he's Brady's backup? I dont get it. People dont play both WR and QB in the NFL. The only way he'll ever throw the ball is if the Pats decide to run the wildcat

If Brady should happen to be injured, god forbid, I wouldn't put it past BB to use him at QB.

I'd LOVE to see them use the wildcat. Even if it wasn't something they use alot like the Doofins do. Throw it in here and there to screw up our opponent.

I've learned to never put anything past BB.

Re-sign Troy brown as a backup QB! LOL! :D

I was comparing their receiving numbers emphasising how quickly Edelman has caught on. Your point on the return yardage is right on. Edelman won't come close in comparison of return yardage. Welker had no catches and 1879 in return yardage.

    Re: Edelman vs Welker

Watson does it well in the middle of the field. However, what we're lacking is somebody who works the sideline well opposite Moss and can push it deep. Gaffney filled that role well (although he had a hard time catching the deep ball for some reason). Similarly, Watson has a tough time catching balls when he's breaking to the sideline. As a result, the middle of the field is crowded - with Welker, Watson, and Faulk all operating in the same general area most of the time. Adding Edelman to the mix doesn't add much, because he isn't a strong outside receiver either. They need to either send Watson out there, get Galloway going, or figure out whether Aiken, Nunn, or Tate is capable of filling that role. Otherwise, they need to re-evaluate the spread offense. You can only spread the field, if you've got guys who demand the defense spread itself out. If they can roll a safety over Moss, put one CB on the opposite outside receiver, and alternately crowd the middle of the field or bring a blitz, there's going to be a lot more frustration for Brady than in 2007.

    Re: Edelman vs Welker

Even comparing receiving yards it's not a good comparison. San Diego kept him as a return man, then dumped him despite getting a 25 ypr avg. Miami wanted a return man and didn't see what he was as a receiver. NE found Edelman and immediately tested him at WR and RB and returner to see what he could do given the chance (I think he also got some DB reps too) - I can't help but think Welker would have come in better prepared as a WR and returner from Texas Tech and BB would have found the diamond he's become much earlier than the Fishies.

The Patriots might have signed Welker—heck, maybe they might even have drafted Welker—if they didn't have so many undersized WRs.

And, even more ironically, the Chargers cut Welker in order to sign . . . Tim Dwight.

You are probably correct. Interesting, they didn't go after Danny Amendola who was also undrafted from Texas Tech. He is a clone of Welker.

Still can't believe Miami was so foolish in assigning him the wrong RFA tender and letting him get scooped up by a division opponent.

I've been saying this since week 1 or 2: Welker and Edelman on the same time, in opposite slots, with a rejuvenated Brady—that will DEVASTATE defenses. That will give them hell like the league hasn't seen since 2007. Throw in Moss and holy crap. Clock-devouring drives.
