But forget about Brady, we know what he can do. It'll be much more compelling to watch Patriots reserve quarterbacks Brian Hoyer and rookie Ryan Mallett, who were both red-hot last week against the Jaguars. One more crisp showing from either of them, and Miami will be ready to offer New England anything short of J-Lo and Jimmy Buffett in trade for a young Patriots passer.

I'm trying to picture the conversation here:

Phone rings.
BB: New England Patriots, Bill Belichick speaking.
Jeff Ireland, Dolphins GM: Hi Bill, it's Jeff.
BB: Jeff who?
JI: Jeff Ireland. General manager of the Dolphins.
BB: Thinks for a moment. Oh, right. Hi, Jeff. What's up?
JI: We'd like to discuss a trade for Brian Hoyer or Ryan Mallett.
BB: Gets out tape recorder. Turns it on. I'm not sure I heard you correctly. Could you repeat that?
JI: I said . . . we'd like to discuss a trade for Brian Hoyer or Ryan Mallett.
BB: ROFLHAO.

The funny thing is that the Dolphins were really high on Mallet and got skiddish because of the drug rumors. They could have drafted him, but instead they traded up into the second round to take Daniel Thomas only to trade for Reggie Bush a few months later.
