I am an ISU grad and found this little tidbit over at a Cyclone forum and thought I would share it with you. I have always liked Hobbs and hope that this doesn't become an issue over the next couple of years:

"Mr. Hobbs was in Ames last week. He mentioned that he is alternating his game time introduction from year to year. He will
be using Iowa State University this next year.

He is also not surprised that Dan was let go this year. He has great
respect for Dan and thinks he is a great motivator, but as he put it "not a very good game coach".

He said he would like to get out of the New England area. The people are not very friendly. He would like to play for the vikings or
the Texans. He still loves the Cyclones."

    Were there any actual quotes?

Is there a link that documents the actual source or is it just message board fodder?

LOL Considering what we're doing to Brady here today, makes sense. As I said in another thread, we see ourselves as this wonderful fan base but in the wake of our recent success the players clearly see us as something else entirely.

I copied exactly what this person wrote, so I am not sure if it was in the local paper or if he spoke somewhere on campus. I will see if I cannot find out the source of the quotes.

I wouldn't doubt if a solid 20 guys on the team have ambitions of playing elsewhere. We all like to think that NE is the mecca of football, but for many, it is just another team.

The one thing that prevents the Pats from having a great fan base plays its games in Fenway Park. I know there are Pats fans that could care less about the Sox but as far as the BASE itself, it's in a baseball town. The players have alluded to this before.

Ha. The Vikings are having a terrible time selling out their stadium and there's just as many Cowboys fans in Houston as there are Texans fans.

But if he did say that, he is partly right. Southerners are more friendly.

    1. Who is Dan?
    2. He is signed through 2009 so he can like the midwest all he wants.
    3. I don't care about his "intro".

So, why couldn't you say the same about the Yankees/Giants/Jets? Baseball and football seasons barely overlap. People can't have the same fervor for both? To work on my own question a bit, when the Celtics and Bruins were good, the Pats may have been #4, but is that the case any more back there with those other teams sucking so bad?

Hobbs is ****y and immature, and talks too much. The same way he has been since he arrived. I have heard him say things like "I am a Patriot for now.." and "when I leave the Patriots..."

Signs he doesn't want to stay here forever, but who cares. His ****iness is part of the reason he plays so hard. He is signed through 2009 and is doing a solid job but he is no Champ Bailey and if he leaves in 3 years we can thank him for his time and easily replace him.

Hobbs plays hard and plays hurt. He cares about winning and seems to always try his best. He has been a pretty good Patriot so far.

That being said, yeah...he is a bit immature sometimes...I can live with that.

He wants to play somewhere else later in his career....I can live with that too...as long as he plays as hard as he has since he came to the Pats...no problem.

I also guess that for the things "I can live with"....I better be able to since I have no say or control of them

Hobbs would prefer not to be in New England. So what! He didn't come voluntarily. He was drafted. He has a contract through the 2009 season. When HE gets to choose, he will likely choose somewhere else. Why shouldn't he?

Do we REALLY expect that our draftees are here because they WANT to be here?

If he did say this, out of 53+ players on the roster, that one may not like the NE area should hardly be shocking.

Agreed. I would prefer that he had not said it, but it is what it is. It doesn't mean he won't bust his ass to win every game.
