It wasn't the money; it was the principle | Comcast SportsNet - CSNNE.com

pretty sad if this is how it happened. Wish they had simply not made an offer in FA and said they are moving on . Wouldve been cleaner.

If anyone's ego was in play here it is McDaniels'

4 Rams now on the roster

Welker, one of the best Pats ever, frozen out last season's start for no reason, then jettisoned for a Ram much worse and who has a bigger contract

Someone please explain to me why BB is the bad guy or in any way wrong?

He set a market for Wes. Wes hit the open market and the best he could do was 2 mil more. Seems like BB was spot on and Wes was just pissed he wasn't worth more or that we didnt feel the need to offer more than anyone else was willing.

Alrighty then, it's not because those guys happened to be coached by McDaniels so he would know if they understood the system. You act like they broke the bank to get any of these guys. Amendola has been stated to be a possible fit here for years, especially after 2010 when he WASNT coached by McDaniels.

IF it really happened that way i don't blame Welker for taking Denvers offer. If i worked my ass off for a team like WW did and they treated me like that i'd move on too.

Actually, you have your facts wrong yet again.
    Amendola's deal is a 2/3 with only 10 million guaranteed compared to Welker's 12.

    ~ Danny Amendola
    ~ Greg Salas
    ~ Michael Hoomanawanui
    ~ Brandon Lloyd
    ~ Daniel Fells

Salas is gone. Lloyd was from Denver

But the Pats wasted a pick trading for him

McDaniels should not partake in personnel discussions

Agreed. Plus, the Pats apparently felt that putting money toward a five-year investment in Amendola was more prudent than two years of Welker. But, there's also more to come.

All the money we wasted trying those guys when such other tantalizing options were out there for a 3rd and 4th tight end as well as a developmental receiver traded for late in august.

The horror we could have had Kamar Aiken 10 weeks sooner if McDaniels was kept out of the GM room!

I have nothing more than the suspicion that it all does in fact boil down to egos.

Perhaps Wes' fun loving prankster-prone attitude was feeling oppressed under Belichicks stern, business-centric thumb.

And perhaps Wes has enough of the #1 WR diva ego that he was in fact pretty angry that the upstart McDaniels and the Patriots attempted to decentralize his role on the offense.

He reacted. The coaches reacted and who the hell knows what snowball got start rolling.

Its all wild conjecture of course, but it fits better than the alien concept that the Patriots didnt feel he was worth a 2 year 12 million dollar contract.

People are really missing the boat on Edelman taking Welker's snaps at the start of last season. I realize I am nobody important, I'm not Greg A. Bedard, I'm not Mike Giardi, I'm not Tom E. Curran. I'm not Mike Reiss.

    But they all missed something.

Edelman flat out out-performed Wes Welker in training camp last year. It's as simple as that. You know how Tom Brady always says, "every year I feel like I need to fight for my job."

    He's not lying.

Edelman stole the job from Welker, it's as simple as that. I went to 9 or 10 practices last year and at almost every single practice Welker dropped a ball. Edelman showed better speed and rarely dropped a ball, I remember one over the course of the days I was there.

So, for me, this confirmed what Brady said. He does have to earn his job every year, and so doesn't every single other player.

    That's so subjective

It's clear McDaniels WANTED Edelman to produce more the first few games
He forced the ball to him, called specific plays for him

Only when it failed to produce big points, was Welker brought back to save the offense for the year

And yet we continue to see a ongoing pattern of posters taking umbrage at your aggressive posting style by responding in kind.

.. to which (of course) you contribute absolutely nothing to this very mysterious phenomenon.

And in before you respond with another of your "nipping at my heels" attempts to show just how disinterested your disdain for the common poster really is.

I find the ankle biters and stalkers amusing, actually, because they ignore, or just don't grasp, the irony of attacking me for supposedly attacking others. Most of them don't last long, anyway.

The first 2 years are really important since the cap won't rise significantly. $6M per must have been more than the Pats were willing to commit this year and next. Amendola's cap hits may be closer to half that number.

The only way this gets a little fishy is if the Pats don't spend to the cap this year and/or next. I assuming that won't happen. As long as Vollmer re-signs, Solder gets his deal next year and the defensive backfield gets a couple of new faces, everything will be just fine with the world.

Yes. It is so subjective to say that Edelman outperformed Welker in 9 or 10 training camp sessions when Edelman was catching everything and Welker was dropping one a session..

Yep. I saw it with my own eyes. That was McDaniels on the field in the #12 jersey throwing the ball to Edelman..

Do you even stop to think about how totally stupid your rants sound? Seriously. Brady is the one who makes the final decision on where the ball goes because he's the one who looks at who is open.

You also seem to have missed that EDELMAN spent last off-season working with Brady. Do you think that maybe, just MAYBE Brady tried to reward Edelman for that? Nah.. Couldn't be that at all. Has to be that McDaniels was on the field in the #12 Jersey..

That's a bizarre thing to say, given that I've not said that the team is doomed, or anything like that. But, stalk away. The ignore function's there for when you get bothersome. :thumb:

    Not at all.

Please explain where BB was wrong or why he should pay more than the rest of the league felt he was worth or more than a reasonable replacement would cost?
