It's easy, and only takes a few moments.Lots of people are very happy with the Celtics trade, while others feel like we have mortgaged our long term ability to compete...question: If Bill B was running the Celtics, would he have done the same?
The question revolves around Bill B. Sparky :rocker:

...long term ability to compete...
I don't get this. The Celts now have a 2 or 3 year window to win a title. Who said they would have competed long-term had they not made the deal? The team's been mired in mediocrity for two decades already. How much more "long-term" do people want?

In 5 years, will we e saying, hey! we once drafted Chauncey Billups, Joe Johnson, Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, and we even had Ben Wallace on the team? Not to mention passing on Brandon Roy and Corey Brewer.

The argument doesn't fly. If we keep Billups, and the team is slightly better, we get a slightly worse draft pick, then we don't get Jefferson, Green. Ditto for Johnson. Those players just don't accumulate.
Pitino sucked, and the Billups trade was asinine, but in all likelihood, had we kept Billups or Johnson, our record through the years up to this point wouldn't be all that different, and we wouldn't have been all that much better.
Who the hell is Bill B. Sparky? Whatever, this belongs in the Celtics forum.
Good point on Brewer and Roy, but then look at where Jefferson and Green were drafted. You can't tell me we couldn't have taken them had Billups been on the team. Not to mention all the draft picks we've traded away.
But there's also been a lot of thinking such as "Let's think long term, lose as many games as we can this year, and then draft Duncan/Durant/Oden during the offseason."On the other hand, it's a lot of short term thinking that has caused the last two decades. Trading all their young stars away to see them blossom elsewhere is just hard to take.
