This kind of reminds me of what we had with Lloyd last year. The first few games and preseason, Brady was trying to see what he did in him. Amendola is a solid receiver and can stretch the field better than Welker (not as good YAC on short throws as WW).

Last night's game was interesting, Brady's progression went like this (unless they called a play for Gronk, Vereen, Edelman):
    1. Gronk
    2. Vereen
    3. Edelman
    4. Amendola/KT

-It seems like Amendola is the 4th progression for Brady which means he will be a marginal player receiver for us.

What do you guys think of Amendola, will he be worthy of the contract?

think its very much a gameplan thing.

Once DRC went off the field the game plan meant we were going to take longer shots.

I think judging a career by one game is foolish. Amendola has been open in recent games without getting the ball too. Brady is under a lot of pressure. He really doesn't have time to equally dole out the throws so message board posters won't want one player to get a thirty year contract and another to get cut. Of course, amazingly, it's different players each game.

It's called small sample size. He doesn't hate Dobson and Amendola this week, he didn't hate Thompkins a few weeks ago.

It must be the fantasy football culture. Amazingly, the broncos ran the ball and played good defense and didn't pass for much at all. That's because football is a game of blocking and tackling and turnovers, not individual stats of running backs and receivers only, as the phantasy phans would have us believe.

I think its week 12 and he has shown me nothing. Certainly nothing worthy of his contract.

I think Amendola is a very good player, but Brady is going to look at Gronk/Vereen/Edelman first that means there's not that many balls for Amendola. He's going to have to pick it up or have a Lloyd type rest of the season

BB didn't sign Amendola for 6 million a year to rotate him and out and be the 3rd/4th WR.

He's the 6th highest paid player on the team per year, it's about time he starts playing like it.

He'll be worthy if he could stay healthy for more than a few games.

Not a great start so far

Was it Webster the CB that they went after all game after DRC left? If he had been covering Danny he would have had 10 catches.

    Match ups baby.

Amendola has a groin muscle that's ripped off the bone. He can't hurt it anymore, but he has lost his explosiveness this year.

    Disable Jersey

That post just hurt to read. It's a good point. He can play but not at his full capability. Edelman can keep getting the ball if all the other receivers stay on the field to help guide coverage away from him.

Does that mean the lower paid players should slack off? I really don't understand the connection.

No matter how often we hear that Amendola is a poor replacement for Wes Welker, I think that all along Edelman was the Amendola injury insurance, and (Amendola + Edelman) > Wes

I assume that they make more, combined, but do they make more than what we think Wes originally wanted?

I am fine with our slot receiver production now and going forward.

Amendola #'s this year in games other then Buffalo in week one and the Steelers in week nine:

    Games played: 5
    Games missed: 4
    Times targeted: 32
    Receptions: 18
    Catch ratio: 56.25%
    Receiving yards: 132
    Yards per reception: 7.33
    Touchdowns: 0

The Bills game he played well against the Steelers he was fortunate and ran wide open for two long receptions. Outside of those two games his performances has been awful and in my opinion Amemdola being as good as Welker is laughable in my opinion he isn't even the best slot receiver on this team and if Dobson, Thompkins and Boyce progress moving forward this year and in the offseason he could be our fifth receiver by week one of 2014. The problem is his contract basically makes having him back in 2014 a guarantee.

Amendola highlights the poor free agency period in terms of players we weren't retaining this past offseason.

Even if the groin is an issue he shouldn't be catching 56% of his targets, Welker regularly caught 70%+ and Edelman is catching 69% of his targets currently. 32 receptions for 358 receiving yards (1/3 of which were gift wrapped by the Steelers) and 1 touchdown (also gifted) is not what I would expect from the 26th highest paid wide receiver in the NFL.

That is great that they protected themselves and Edelman stepped up and delivered but it doesn't change that Amendola has been a huge disappointment in terms of replacing Welker and just in terms of a free agent signing in general. I'm fine with the slot position as well but I am not fine with Danny Amendola he is being paid 5 times what we're paying Edelman and Edelman has outperformed Amendola in just about every game this season some weeks such as last night the difference looked like they didn't even belong on the same field. Amendola has been far and away the most disappointing player on this team this season in my opinion - nobody else is even close. To be honest if we could cut him to have a shot at a 3rd or 4th round compensatory draft pick for Welker I would do it in a heart beat.

I think you misunderstand play design and progressions.
