Denver vs. Cincy... unsure who to root for

Gotta pull for Denver believe it or not. I say that because that will allow us to split these last two games and be guaranteed the 1-seed. This allows us a possible hiccup this Sunday yet finish off Miami in the last week to lock up the 1-seed.

Our game will be over by the time they play. If we win, it won't matter at all. If we lose, then we have to win the following week to get #1. If we win one of two, the outcome of the Denver-Cincy game is irrelevant (assuming that Cincy wins in week 17 against the Ravens). If we lose two we get the #2 assuming Denver beats SD if they beat Cincy or Cincy beat the Ravens if they beat Denver. So, that game doesn't really matter. We won't be able to back into #1. We have to earn it ourselves.

Easy. Root for Cincy. Don't give the better (currently minus QB) team the extra 1 week rest. Would u rather play at home Den with a week of rest or Cincy?

If Denver wins aren't we guaranteed the #1 seed?
I believe so. That's why it's so hard to root for Cincy, but still, "Go Denver," leaves such a bad taste. How about a tie? ;)

CIN is already in the playoffs, DEN is not. If CIN wins and KC wins last 2 games, KC wins division. Then if Jets, PIT win out, all 3 would have 11-5 records with PIT and Jets making WC and DEN being out. Pats will win one of next two to secure HFA. WC weekend will have HOU, KC, PIT, and Jets beating each other up.

I would love to see reaction in DEN if this happens. Who would they blame? Manning for not disclosing his injury earlier, Kubiak, Elway? The perennial playoff teams: IND, BAL, and DEN would be gone. Lol

Don't you mean three of the perennial playoff teams. One will be there at #1 (or at least #2).:)

Read in some thread that we need to root for Denver, but that just doesn't seem to make sense to me. I would have thought to root for Cincy, but now I'm not sure. Can anyone that has time and is willing, explain why we need to root for Denver?

I'll admit the only reason I was thinking of rooting for Cincy was cuz even if they get the 1 seed, I believe we'd have no problem beating them at their place. Playing in Denver on the other hand...

Of course best scenario is that it doesn't matter who wins cuz we win and get the #1 seed.

My hope right now is for KC to sneak in and steel the third seed. That would at least increase the odds of Pitt having a tougher wildcard round game on road. No guarantee that Pitt ends up at 6 in that case though, They likely would move up.

Doesn't matter I guess as long as everything goes through Foxboro. I have played the game before of hoping for certain teams not to show (or to show up) and it almost never works. (07,10,11,12 etc)

The Cincy-Denver game is irrelevant to your scenario. If the Pats win one of the next two games, they get the 1 seed regardless of what Cincy or Denver do. If the Pats lose both games, either Cincy or Denver would pass them if they win out.

I'm rooting for Cincny because I hate the current Denver team. It's pretty simple for me.

A rookie QB has no shot in Denver against that defense and the refs. I will root for Cincy just to put an end to this Bronco nonsense but don't see it happening. Pats #1 seed is in their own hands.

I hope they both lose, but that is impossible.. just hobble each other enough where they are useless for the rest of the season..

Patriots simply need to win one game for first overall.

Cincy!

Let me tell you why...

After Denver beat the Pats, newspaper headlines screamed and gloated, the Pats are no longer tough!

Then comes a front page headline, at the top, screaming, "WE ARE THE BEST!"

This, of course, was promptly followed by a Denver loss to Oakland!

Boy, that one was sweet!

After Brock "The Doc" Osweiler beat the Pats, he was deemed the greatest thing since sliced bread. It made no difference whether or not Peyton returned. Osweiler was the QB of the future, and the future was happening now!

Then Denver stopped scoring points in the 2nd half of games (does this not resemble a Kubiak-coached team?), and the calls are getting louder for a return of Peyton to rescue the team, even tho he appears to be deteriorating injury-wise.

Now, from the best-team-ever, with the best-defense-ever, a loss Monday, with a KC win Sunday, will definitely prompt full-scale panic in this dusty old cow town, faced with the real possibility of missing the playoffs altogether.

This, my brethren, is the way it is supposed to be, and I can once again wear my Patriots sweatshirts unabashedly in public, forcing all who see it, even at a distance, to look away to avoid my baleful stare!

And, yes, in the past that's exactly the way it's worked!

Additionally, I remember reading on a Broncos forum last season, that they thought they had the best roster in the history of the NFL*.

Delusional.

I don't like the home field advantage of the thin air; seems like an unfair advantage, and I don't want to see them being able to exploit it.

The opposing football fans don't need to continue being serenaded by the douchebag chant "In....com....plete!"

Go Bengals!

I mean does it really matter? All we have to do is win 1 out of the last 2 to get the #1 seed. But Pitt winning the Div would be nice

There's always Team Asteroid.

Team asteroid? Isn't that what we hope for when it's an evil vs. evil match up like Steelers-Ravens? or Jets-Broncos?

Is there any particular reason to hate on the Bengals? Of the remaining AFC contenders, I'm pressed to find any reason to hate on them or Kansas City other than petty resentfulness against potential competition.

The correct answer, I believe, is that we want that game to end in a tie.

It's my understanding that a tie means we get HFA with either a win or a tie against our last two opponents.
