A starting QB for a 6th disgusting.
BB really helping out his friend.

If Mallett had managed to look anything like a starting QB in the past month, they would have surely gotten more. As is, this was what the market offered for a completely unproven QB in the last year of his contract.

He was going to be cut anyway, so any return is better than nothing.

A high 4th (Bucs) and a high 6th (Texans) will be good ammo to maneuver in the draft. Don't forget about Talib's likely compensatory 3rd rounder.

The 2015 draft should be fun.

moosekill...... Yes, there was a TE. There was cap space. Maybe the space is used to lock up Revis/McCourty, in which case I am comfortable with it. I still think a 4th round pick is underwhelming. Just like a 6th round pick (though it was probably 6th vs nothing if they release Mallett).

I guess I thought Mallett, the 3rd round pick with (supposedly) a 1st round frame, would develop and be moved for more than a 6th rounder. As I was surprised Mankins was moved.

A SIXTH ROUNDER???

Who the #$%& could you possibly expect to get with a #$%&ing 6TH ROUNDER???

How anyone can complain about this trade is beyond me. Mallett sucks. Period. Getting anything for a terrible player who you have no use for is a stroke of genius.

And complaining about it just being a 6th? Edelman, Dennard, Buchanan, Deaderick, Larsen, Pryor... The Pats are good for a late round hit or two every couple years. Why would anyone have a problem with them increasing their chances? Especially when the player in question sucks?

Where's my "No Way" thread ... :p

I view the roster spot as more important than the draft pick .... and roster spots this low come and go this time of year.

Let me make it a little clearer for the people that thought they should have gotten more than a 6th.

Texans had first priority at Mallet if he hit waivers. Texans then probably just said why give anything when he will be ours. Pats then called a few other teams Texans got worried and blinked.

The fact that BB got a pick at all says that is a win in his favor.

Personal congrats to The Hammah. A good career opportunity and a year earlier.

BB got outmanaged on this one

While it would have been nice to get more for Mallett (I would have been really happy with a 4th); this is a realistic compensation for him. How many times have we posted how badly he has looked in his small number of chances. While a 6th pick isn't great, it does provide some draft capital and is better than if they just released him which was probably the next step. Now Danny Aiken (or hopefully someone better) can come back.

Banner day for Tom Curran. Finally gets to write that story.

Ridiculous trade. Why even bother ? I rather keep him for a year as insurance and get nothing next year. Dumb, worthless trade. So we basically traded Mallett for Aiken (or whatever long snapper, Mallett was basically traded to open up a roster spot) and a 6th round pick.

Garoppolo is already better than Mallett- if they couldn't trade him they were probably just cutting him. How is it dumb and worthless to pick up a sixth round pick rather than nothing? And to incidentally do right by your former OC and backup QB in the process.

BTW, the pats are currently starting three guys drafted in the 6th-7th rounds. Those picks aren't worthless. They're not worth their weight in good or anything, but having picks is always better than not having picks.

Win-Win, unless Mallet turns out to be a world beater (which appears unlikely). hopefully he looks good and shows potential so he can get a decent/next contract. Curious to see how he performs if given consistent reps and game time.

and BOB did get to see him first hand, so that had to count for something and perhaps give indy a run for their money.

So you actually think we were offered more and took less ? That was obviously the market.
