First Female to Tryout for NFL

I can imagine a woman out-quicking Stephen Gostkowski by enough to be his equal as a tackler.

:frusty::frusty::frusty: Please. You are embarrassing yourself once again. Put your imagination to bed and call it a night -- the Sand Man awaits. Perhaps you can dream about Tom Brady choking in the playoffs and Jessica Simpson coming off the bench to save the day, with Ashley Judd kicking the deciding extra point.

This whole debate is really the equivalent of the woman who can shoot a higher 3pt% than an NBA player, so why doesn't she get a tryout for a team? This whole conversation needs to stop, because it's really, really stupid.

except that this is going to happen...and then...the genie is out of the bottle...how many billions of times has this happened in the course of human history? it's entropic...you introduce a new variable into a closed system you CHANGE That system irreparably.

it's a shameless pandering play to the emotions of those addicted to the "next new thing!!!" in this whacked out, narcissistic society.

extrapolating this out to further ridiculous parameters, why not try out Labrador retrievers as wide receivers?...they take to command instructions perfectly from the master(QB), have five times the burst and speed of any human NFL receiver and have proven to be absolute masters of the jump and snag frisbee moves...just sub the football for the frisbee and there you go, even MORE new fans to the NFL game gone Three Stooges loony.

OK...I'd watch THAT league...as long as Salma Hayek, Julie Benz, Denise Richards and Charlize Theron are on "special" teams

If you see Ghost in person, go ahead and tell him that. Ghost has actually had some pretty great ST tackles in his career.

Based on the one, very short conversation I've had with him, I imagine he'd take it politely.

Whether he'd agree is a different matter. :)

No, because the one sharpshooting task -- in this case placekicking -- really IS the large majority of the job.

And if for some reason a woman actually could hit 3s and play NBA defense? Well, then she'd deserve a chance to try out for a team.

Wow im surprised about the reaction to this. I thought patsfans would care less of her gender. Im not saying you guys are chauvinistic (yet some of you are) but its sadly offending but not enough for me to really give two poops haha. But hey just imagine in a game where she gets run over by a kick returner and gets up no problem just imagine the fire that will be put into our guys when they see a teammate who no one expects to actually do anything because of the gender she was born with shows that toughness. Its really insperational and I admire her for it.

well ...then great!..it's settled....fold up the WNBA and make the NBA gender equal and do the same for the NFL.

The PC police and those who can't/refuse to accept the differences on the subject of gender cannot ultimately reconcile the existence of gender based sporting teams. They will try but it will be mostly shifting words, frequently altering/tailoring conclusions along with that oldy but goody 'sexist/misogynist' card being played. But that is to be expected when an argument is based on emotion instead of fact. An argument based on a emotion is rarely an actual argument, it is more of a prolonged announcement of what somebody desires/hopes for/dislikes/uneasy with/favors. And for anyone who believes hell does not exist, you are wrong! When you get into a discussion with someone whose argument is based largely on emotion and that emotion is strong, you can eventually find yourself right in downtown hell.:D

The moment someone makes the "argument" that anyone should be allowed to be part of anything regardless of gender, I want you to put your money where your mouth is and speak out against gender based sporting teams. Every team (whether it currently is a male or female based team) should immediately become open to anyone regardless of their gender. Because 'if you can do it then you should be allowed to try out for that team, gender should not matter' is the logic, right?

Good for her, but realistically she'll never make it. You have to be a freak athlete to play in the NFL. A woman in top physical condition will not be more athletic than a man in top physical condition.

sebas disagees with all your claims about needing to be on top condition to kick in the NFL

Now you've got me curious: where did you learn to think this way? From your lines of reasoning I assume you're pretty young. Are you in school?

4 players on special teams? That's a recipe for missing out on yet another SB. I believe adding Mila Kunis, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Julianne Hough, Vanessa Hudgens, Megan Fox, Sarah Shahi and Anne Heche (i always like one that is experienced and even a bit crazy) will finally put to rest the talk that we lack a physical game and lead us to the ultimate prize.

I doubt many women could tackle like Adam Vinateri. But I can imagine a woman out-quicking Stephen Gostkowski by enough to be his equal as a tackler.

Considering media will even put PC before profits sometimes, we all are constantly inculcated with certain false beliefs from the PC media crowd. So it is understandable that all of us, including you, have a visceral response to gender arguments. With that said, your post is at best an example of someone verbalizing the feeling of 'I want it to be this way'.....and at worst it is indicative of someone far out of touch with the analog world. However, if you want to make things up about NFL players where you question their ability, can you at least have the decency to make it up about J-e-t players???

Saving Sports: Strike IX: The Story of the Providence College Baseball Team

this one hurt...and hit close to home...the womens sports team that took the place of this tremendous program with a storied 8 decade history was dismantled a few years later because of a lack of participation...Title IX idiocy at its most heinous.

Joker, I empathize with you. Title IX has had repercussion that were grossly unfortunate. Even some of the PC crowd know this to be true. However, when we are talking of public institutions of higher learning, don't you think there has to be some equitable spreading around of sports scholarships/opportunities to both genders? There had to be some leveling of that playing field which accepted the physical differences in gender and offered opportunities to females entering college.
With that said, it is ironic (as pointed out before) that the same crowd that pushed Title IX were pushing for the very thing they vehemently argue is not true. "Irony can be pretty ironic sometimes"

This is a non-starter. You're asking someone whose sense of reality is skewed by wishful imagination to be humorously insightful. Doesn't the poor boy have enough confusion on his plate already?

At the risk of being grossly non-PC, here goes: What we've seen with Title IX is America's cultural acceptance of institutionalized lesbian politicization. From my former life as a newspaper reporter, which included coverage of college athletics, I know this to be true.

Now you've got me curious: where did you learn to think this way? From your lines of reasoning I assume you're pretty young. Are you in school?

Tune, I think it is a good bet he/she is young (that is not a put down of him/her, just an observation). I have a college freshman aged son and the beliefs/arguments are very similar.
Outside of dropping a few 'question what is told to you', I don't contradict this thinking to my son. The current that flows the way of the PC thinking is very strong within his generation. I see it as unhelpful to have him buck that trend now.......reality is something that he will learn over the years. Didn't we all have high, idealistic beliefs in some form or fashion when we were around 20??

Of course I'm 100% for RATIONAL,REASONABLE gender equality, especially as far as youth and collegiate programs go. The PC debacle was unforeseen until it actually took effect ...nobody ever suspected a storied collegiate program operating on a high level would be disintegrated just to meet a strict new paradigm...yes the women at PC were offered new athletic venues in which they could participate...that is just and equitable...but the Draconian application of this Title IX obliterated a highly successful men's program with decades of collegiate history and replaced it with choices that ceased to exist a scant few years later due to lack of participation.

You can spin it any way you want to, but that is just plain ridiculous and another example of this PC insanity gone well past the galactic rim.

I do NOT think a woman belongs in a UFC cage with Anderson Silva , Randy Couture or Chuck Liddell yet these unbelievably insistent ,narrowly focused PC army commanders will be braying like jacka$$es to "break down the barriers!!!!!" in that sport too, if this NFL idiocy finds any traction.

Yes. But, I believe even then I had a pretty solid grasp of fairness in general, which didn't always jive with popular thought. I guess I've always been somewhat anti-fashion.

On the first part, funny, but we were all ideal when we were young weren't we?.
To the second part, I don't have your personal insight to be able to comment on the foundation of those who pushed Title IX. However, I think their foundation does not necessarily make every one of its intended goals wrong. A higher learning institution receiving government funds simply could not be financing athletic scholarships/opportunities that went overwhelmingly to males. There had to be some leveling of that -- a mechanism to spread it around. Yet Title IX, as is the case with so many things in government, took that single, largely proper(IMHO) idea and used it as a vehicle to push many different PC goals into multiple areas of society. While I'm not a conservative per se, I believe the sarcastic line of "I'm from the government and I am here to help" is spot on.

I agree on almost everything you said. Giving gender equality to collegiate athletics was a simple enough thing to reasonably remedy. However, that single issue was used as a vehicle to drive in a truckload of changes based on the PC protagonists' emotional-illogical ideas.
Unfortunately, due to the PC world we now live in where public debate gets you labeled anti-female, even if a majority believed it is unfair and there needs to be changes, it isn't going to happen. The PC crowd wins the day with their emotion based 'thinking' by tearing down the opposition as they frequently can't win on the merits.

Here I was thinking 4 out of 5 kickers were women already... maybe it was 4 out of 5 are Grammaticas or Zendejases already...
