Re: La Canfora: Pats have offer on table for Peppers [Update: Rap: Pats making hard p

Yup, no one is despairing on the Patriots forum. No one, at all!

That's what makes this whole process so infuriating. Every free agent that signs brings about another wave of wailing and gnashing of teeth, followed by pronouncements of how the Patriots have failed in FA due to their failure to sign said player.

Well, in fairness to the doom and gloomers, the Pats have had 15 hours to restock this team and not only have they not signed Peppers, Dansby, Burelson, and Rolle to deals; they haven't completed trades for Olsen, Boldin, and both the Marshalls (Brandon and Richard) yet. If it was one hour into free agency it might be excusable, but we are a whopping 15 hours in already.

Re: La Canfora: Pats have offer on table for Peppers [Update: Rap: Pats making hard p

The Chicago Sun Times reports that a deal between the Bears and free agent Julius Peppers "is imminent."

Peppers is currently taking a physical, and will likely sign on the dotted line shortly thereafter. According to the Sun Times, his deal is expected to average $12 million annually with each of the first three years fully guaranteed. The Eagles and Patriots have been offering $10 million per season.

10M per season wow...for a guy who has never played in a 3/4

Youre right that would be strange.. Too bad the Bears or Eagles DONT RUN A 3-4. Wow. :singing:

Re: La Canfora: Pats have offer on table for Peppers [Update: Rap: Pats making hard p

Precisely. I'm not overreacting, it's whatever. I can't control the circumstance. However I ask the same question as you. Tell me people, who can now come in and help us out?

The only guy I'm interested in is Bullock, and he damn sure isn't young.

bullock don't fit the scheme

but then again, nobody does.....

Re: La Canfora: Pats have offer on table for Peppers [Update: Rap: Pats making hard p

The defense is a complete shambles at the moment, we could of had Clay Matthews and James Laurenitis in our linebacking core but traded out of the first round and selected Chung instead.

Traded away Seymour for a 1st round pick that could be anything and there's nothing expectional about the defense that is going to make any team worry whatsoever, there is no pass rush and no stand out cover guy.

A guy like Peppers would of rejuvenated the defense and took it to a level that would of been acceptable.

Re: La Canfora: Pats have offer on table for Peppers [Update: Rap: Pats making hard p

Schefter reported on his twitter (the link is somewhere in here, sorry I'm not into these message board dog fights enough to go dig it up) that the deal was reported at 40 mill. within the first 3 years, which averages out to just above 13 mil.

funny, were people knocking Thomas's big contract at the time when we signed him? He was 30 too wasn't he?

I know what's being reported. I'm asking you to tell me what your highest offer would have been, and to back that up by providing us with a link to your post stating that you'd have paid that.

In other words, where's your post, prior to this thread, telling us that you'd have been willing to drop $14 million on Peppers?

Re: La Canfora: Pats have offer on table for Peppers [Update: Rap: Pats making hard p

Please trade for Anquan Boldin or Greg Olsen...PLEASE :)

Re: La Canfora: Pats have offer on table for Peppers [Update: Rap: Pats making hard p

You're ideas are far too short-sighted though. Overpay peppers means overpay wilfork means overpay brady means overpay the next guy and the next and then eventually means you crash and burn and have a terrible middle-roster.

They WANTED peppers at the right price. It is still only March 5th.

Brady has always said in the past he's down to help the team. Again, as I said. You people act like the salary cap doesn't jump up every freaking year. We always here how this deal is going to sink team x, yada yada.

Why would Wilfork ask for the same amount? He's not close to the impactful player Peppers is, and everyone knows the value for a DE is above that of a DT.

Thinking too short sighted? You people need to wake up. Tom Brady will be 33 by the time the season is in full swing. How many years of top play from him can we honestly expect? How long will he want to play football? No I'm not saying you blow the future for now. But you load up right now. Who gives a **** if by the time Brady is done the team can't re-load for a year?

you have a franchise QB in his last good years. You aim for the stars now. But like I said before, it's gonna be sweet when we do have a good defense 3 years from now and Brady is done or a shell of his former self.

Yikes. Apparently somewhere I took a wrong turn and ended up on a Buccaneers forum.

The bears bid against themselves. Did the bears improve themselves on offense which was anemic with a mike Martz TE, Chester Taylor and Peppers. Lots of coin to put in one player. as I stated in another thread, let's focus in on our own. we don't know what goes on behind the scenes. let's just wait and see what happens we are one day in and let's not forget what the Adalius Thomas situation couple of years back.

Brett Favre and Kurt Warner are showing QBs can play until they are about 40. Brady takes damn good care of his body - I think he'll be around for more than a couple years.

My absolute highest would be at about 14-15 mil. Why? Because deals like that don't cripple teams like people think. Also look, I'm not going to dig through 50 million threads to find a post. I know you and you'll kick and scream until you think you're right. I have no interest in a back and forth all day on here I'm just throwing my 2 cents in. Go find someone else with to ***** at for 4 pages.

sorry but a guy who plays a 4-3 his entire career wants to get paid and is 30 years old and you gave him a poison pill type of contract. remember we had Randall G@Y as our starting cb in the superbowl...pass rush can be improved with the draft or a restricted player. hold tight and let's see what happens or baseball is a month away ;)

-Sign Wilfork
-Sign Bodden/get adequete replacement
-Spend top 4 picks on any of the 4 positions- CB,OLB, DT/DE, DE/OLB, LB
-Pick up a veteran nickel CB
-Get McKenzie playing
-Year 2 of Butler, Chung, Pryor, Brace.
-Pro Bowler Merriweather
-Mayo 100% healthy
-Guyton Year 3 in the program

Pats have some work to do, but "shambles" is a little drastic IMO.

I am starting to think that what the front office is doing is that figure that the stadium will be full in 2010 regardless of who the sign......so why waste the money with an impending lockout? the pats will slap together whatever they can at low cost for a defense, add a couple of low priced guys to enhance the offense and we will watch them try to put up 30 a game next year......

I mean really.....why waste a dime if you think there is going to be a lockout in 2011 and your stadium is already full for 2010. then get back to business once the dust settles.

peppers would be good to have, but it is definetely sound business principle for the pats to drive down their costs for 2010. there are a ton contract which will be up in 2010, so when the lockout ends, the pats will then have a ton of resources to throw around......and maybe by then, they will be able to find decent 3-4 LB's

TBC was signed by the Patriots for 3 years....

Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

Now, perhaps, people can take an inch or two back from the ledge. Don't step away or anything, but just sort of slide your feet back a bit.

Re: La Canfora: Pats have offer on table for Peppers [Update: Rap: Pats making hard p

This years draft is probably the most important draft in the BB era. Will decide if the Pats are elite or mediocre in this next decade.

The salary cap does NOT always jump up as much as it has the past few years and teams still are handicapped by bad contracts even with that. The Patriots strategy is proven more successful than any other franchise in the NFL.

I never said Wilfork would ask for the same amount, but if you break your value model for a player because you get "desperate" like a fan and make a knee-jerk decision you lose leverage in other contract talks. Not only that but you can make that same sort of "overpay exception" in many areas every year and then you get into a heavily loaded top roster with no room to pay for the ever important middle roster and depth. You get far too much risk with little fallback plan and it's the surefire way to destroy a team and go against the Patriots mission statement of being competitive EVERY single year.

so the defense will be pretty weak in 2010?

That's them. What do they have going for them outside of football? Nothing. I could easily see Brady saying **** it, I've done it all I wanna hang em up and enjoy this california life style with my bangin wife, have his pretty boy mug all over the place and get paid, etc.

Favre and Warner don't have that. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe Brady will stick. We don't know that, and I damn sure wouldn't build my team around a decision that's never easy for an athlete. Besides, even if you don't like Favre lets give these guys respect. They're the exception to the rule, which is why they're pretty special.
