I think they blitzed a grand total of about once, and wouldn't you know it, they sacked Orton.

But nah, let's keep up the bend but don't break.

And Randy Moss is the leader in Interceptions on the Pats! That's what playing 15 yds off a receiver will do to ya!

The defense played good enough to win. You can talk about Kyle Orton sucking, but the fact is he was phenomenally accurate today and his passes had plenty of zip. He FAR outplayed Brady and that was the difference in the game.

"FAR outplayed"? Heck, no. He just managed NOT to miss his receivers when they had yards and yards of open space all around them.

We have the 6th ranked defense in the league in spite of Pees.

However, Pees will never get fired during the season. We are stuck with him and ultimately, Bill has the final say in all the team's gameplans and he apparently liked what Pees had in mind.

Still even if we had all probowlers out their on D we could still have the worst D in the league (ie if I was DC). The DC has a pretty big part in it's success or failure.

Everything I'm thinking has already been said, so I'll save it, excluding...

Even though probably 40% of the team is different from when Josh was here, I'm going to chalk this one up to McDaniels knowing exactly how to deal with us, and I will sleep better because of it.

I never fully believe it when I say it, but I find myself criticizing the Seymour trade a lot, particularly when we're sending 3 and 4-man rushes. Most coaches would be skinned alive if they admitted they were looking past the immediate future. The ancient guys needed to be rid of, but Belichick has gotten rid of a lot of guys; we seem to buy that they will be fully replaced because we think Belichick says so. Will Jarvis Green ever beat a double team (or just a single blocker) because our coach is smarter than everyone else's?

(Ignore my user name for the sake of this argument. Seymour isn't the only talent that we've gotten rid of and was supposed to be replaced by some schmuck.)

You know I'm pretty friggin sick of getting 3rd and 15 and watching the opposing teams convert. I have seen some teams make 3rd down conversions that they have no business making, it is ridiculous. I'd rather see 3rd and 1 because at least then the opposing team will run and we can stop that because our lineman don't play 10 yards off the line of scrimmage.

I'd rather lose because we blitz or chuck the receiver and he blows by us and gets an 80 yard bomb than watch opposing teams grind out 12 play 90 yard drives that take up half a quarter and wear out the defense.

For Christ sakes, if you're gonna die, die with your guns blazing. Enough of this pansy ass vanilla defense.

i will say this pees dose not have much to work with

Springs is 34 to old to be a #1 corner any more

Bodden sucked i think we seen why the lions cut him

AD burgess TBC and Ninkovich are all JAG... LB

and he is geting a lot out of TBC right now

wright and green do not = one seymour

guyton was a undrafted FA

mayo was hurt

yes i would have loved to see them bring the house when they had denver backed up on there own 2

it would have been better to give up a 98 yerd bomb then giveing it up pace by pace like that

they could have drafted rey Maualuga and move guyton to OLB that would have been a lot more help then drafting ron brace who i dont think has played yet or singing 40 year old junior seau

as a team they have not played great yet

and they made some bad FA trade and draft moves

signing galloway was a bad move tradeing a way seymour dose not look great tradeing for burgess dose not look great so far

but it is what it is i cant put it all on pees

I dont want to get to "FIRE THIS GUY" and "FIRE THAT GUY" but I hated what I saw today. In many phases of the game.

Yeah, I whined about that trade the entire time I watched our [lack of a] pass rush.

I got one thing to say, before call it a night:

Romeo oh romeo wherefore art thou romeo?

The defense is performing well in spite of Dean Pees and the playcalling, not because of it. These poor kids...imagine if they actually had someone who could utilize their skills to the full extent?

The guy could use a swift kick in the nuts, or pees for that matter.

:ditto: :agree: :yeahthat:

Is there any other way to agree with what you said ? You nailed it bro !

What a difference maker that would be

But in many ways I think BB runs this organisation now not Mr Kraft so it wont happen

First off, im not a Pees fan, and would prefer Romeo. However, you cant blame all of this on Pees, and be begging for him to be fired. Nobody 4 weeks ago was thinking "wow, this defense will be dominate". All of us were thinking, BB is slowly improving the team, and getting them younger, and faster. We were all planning on the offense carrying the D until they learned the defense. Hell, we werent even sure about any of the LBs, except Mayo, and AD.

Ive seen many people complaining about the CBs playing 10 yards off. This was what everyone complained about with Hobbs. Maybe, just maybe, this is what BB wants them to do, and thats why year after year, they play 10 yards off. Should we be wanting him fired too?

The Seymour trade continues to be brought up as an excuse. I don't recall many people thinking we were going to have a great pass rush during the preseason. So what does it matter that Sey is gone. I honestly don't think they would have a pile of sacks, or pressures right now, just because of him. Besides, anyone who thinks Wright isnt doing a decent job, is nuts.

Bottom line, IMHO, the defense (except for the 2nd half yesterday) has exceeded my expectations at this point in the season.

One other thing, whoever said Orton can't throw for more than 10 yards??? If anybody has been paying attention to their games, you'll notice he's very capable of making the throws. Im done ranting :D

Tibbs. It doesn't even matter. We needed zero interceptions to win that game. All Pees needed to do was not play ten yards off the receivers and they'd have probably stopped those humiliating drives. Orton was passing to WIDE OPEN receivers. Some bum off the street could have posted his numbers against that idiocy.

That isn't the problem.
Orton was passing to open receivers because of our weak pass rush.
He prob. averaged 4-5 sec. toss time and Tom had 2-3 sec (est.).

You have to admit that Orton had some great passes yesterday. Brady looked like crap. I should make out with Giselle and teach him a lesson.

I think that some one needs to show the defense how to tackle. More missed or broken tackles than there would be if they were tought properly.

Overtime 2008 vs Jets
Overtime 2009 vs Denver

The same pattern:
http://www.patsfans.com/new-england...87-defense-fails-again-page2.html#post1161195

Pees' schemes simply do not work in overtime. If you read the above thread (after last year's loss to Jets) basically we can have the exact same conversation. I stand by what I said there. The earlier in the game, the more appropriate it is to have a bend but don't break defense. In overtime, it is suicide pure and simple. I wanted to shoot my TV with a shotgun. Once the Broncos won the toss, I knew it was over. I turned to my wife, here's what will happen:
We will play bend but don't break, give them medium (6-12 yard) passes down the field until they are in field goal range, and we will lose.

I don't know jack about football, but I know that in OT you can't give up a field goal. The freaking field is shorter in OT, about 70 yards long.

I'm sure there are people whining that we can't just blame the defense. Duh. We all know that. But for that drive, the overtime, where our offense never got the ball, where our defense didn't do their job? For overtime, we can just blame the defense.

Get in line.

This.

It was a point made by Phil Simms on commentary during the game about how much time Orton had to find Royal, Marshall etc., because there was literally no pressure on him at all.

If you give any half decent NFL QB that amount of time in the pocket you will make them look great out there.
