This thread is way short sighted. We have a top 10 defense in the league. We have dealt with the loss of Seymour, Bruschi, Vrabel, Seau, Harrison and a retooled secondary. The defense is not the problem.

I agree with you that offense and particularly Brady blew the game.

But, when Denver drove 90 yards for a TD, they said that was their longest drive of the season. Then they drove 98 for another TD, and they said that was their longest in last 8 years.

Kyle Orton was with Chicago Bears and Bears fans know he was very average. Yet Orton was able to do some amazing things in one game against Pats that has not been done before in Denver in last 8 years. He complted 72% with 2 TDs. Think. My friend. Think. What does that say abot pats defense? Not good. Not good at all.

But you're talking about a road team playing in Denver. Historically road teams have not done well playing in the 4th quater in a game at (Invesco) Mile high. That could have been part of belichick's decision not to blow his players out rushing too much. Winning in Denver has always been about getting a good lead early ... defense games are usually lost when playing Denver ... the mile high air thing.

I said it after game 2 and I'll say it again. You cannot rush only 3 or 4 guys the entire game and expect to win in the NFL. You tie the D's hands and at some piont you may cause the players to lose faith in your scheme.

Agreed. The guys are run ragged try to cover all the holes in subpackage. Given time, a NFL Qb will always find a hole. It does not work consistenly. We have been giving too many 3rd down completions.

If you are a DB, you would rather blizts and crash qb and rave up the crowd than been beat time and again in this defense.

We are still in the first half of the Season. This D is just getting it's collective feet wet playing together. They can get far more creative once they master the basics of the Defense. You'll see a different animal after the bye, I'm convinced...on Offense AND Defense.

The Pats were going to be a scary team to face had they made the playoffs last year. I'll bet the same will be true this year...even more so.

It is so hard to win games in the NFL when you are conceding 80 yards to the other team, it's mind boggling how the Pats have overcome this over the years--it makes me appreciate the consistency that Brady has given this team over the years. One or two bad games from Brady in a 10 yr career really exposes how bad this defense is run.

Re: The Offical we want Dean Pees to resign thread

IMHO, we pay the defense to keep opposing 4-0 teams to 17 point in a game, and to 10 points in the second half in which we have a 10 point lead. If you think that 17 is too much, then perhaps you should fire Pees and blame the defense.

On the other hand, if you think that our offense should be expected to score ONE point in the second half, and not miss open TD passes with 4 minutes left and come up empty in the 2 minute drill, then you can blame the offense.

My choice to blame is the offense and the offensive coordinator.

I completely agree with this analysis. The defense has performed dramatically better than last years defense. The offense is out of sync.

You missed the point about the 98 yard TD drive that was the longest by the Broncos in 8 years. If your point was that road teams do not do well in the 4th quarter in Mile High, then the Broncos should have more 90 yard TD drives. The fact that they broke the 90 yard TD drives two times in one game with Kyle Orton as their QB is the point. Orton is average at best. YET, he picked us apart.

Why are you content with a bend but don't break defense when we have the defensive players to put the type of pressure like we showed last week against the Ravens?

People are already forgetting last week's great performance by our defense.

Did anybody else hear when Phil Simms was talking about our bend but don't break safe defense and said "quarterbacks [like Orton] love to play against defenses like that"?

Kyle Orton loves to play against our defense. I'm pretty sure that wasn't the case when we were winning Super Bowls. When did that happen? We have the personelle this year, but still nobody takes us seriously.

I mentioned this in another thread. A team like the Pats who gets almost no pass rush, but plays well in coverage will get absolutely sliced against a team with a high completion % QB like Orton. I think we are blessed we don't have to face Pennington this year.

You make very good points, but the offense is the unit that lost them the game today. Not only were they up 10 at halftime, but failed to score after that. Their offense has zero killer instinct.

the 90+ yard 2nd half drive and the OT drive has ZERO to do with the offense. Yes, the offense has issue, but give me a break - they got smoked on 2 huge long drives.

It reminds me all 3 superbowl wins and the loss. Letting teams stick around and come back. The difference is that this defense wasn't nearly as good as those - as this one actually broke this time around.

Send Pees packing.........

He blew the Jet game last year, sitting back in that stupid soft freakin zone to allow the key Favre 3rd and 15 when he should have sent the freaking house on that play.

His defenses make run of the mill QB's into All World Studs. I'm tired of it. We finally have the speed now to get creative with a number of different blitz schemes and this conservative pile of dog crap
doesn't want to utilize it.

His blitzes are so rare and so predictable and non creative that a town Pop Warner team can predict when they will occur (if they even occur). The blitzes themselves lack not only the element of surprise, they lack any and all imagination.

This guy has to go................Been saying it for 2 years now.........

You're absolutely right, that was pathetic! But, that's what you should expect when your defensive philosophy is "bend and eventually break". I don't like their philosophy at all and allows anybody with an NFL arm to have a good day.

The sooner Pees is replaced the better. Sadly the chances of it actually happening are slim and none. If not Romeo, I'd like to see Pepper given a shot at the DC position.

How many 90 plus yard drives has this team given up the last 3 years???

I'd like to know where they stack up against the rest of the NFL.

It just seems like when we have the offense pinned back, we let the offense score.. That is poor coaching and and poor players..

If we fire him, the DC of the 6th ranked defense in the league would be available.

We have the 6th ranked defense in the league in spite of Pees.

However, Pees will never get fired during the season. We are stuck with him and ultimately, Bill has the final say in all the team's gameplans and he apparently liked what Pees had in mind.

That stat tells little of the story. Great defenses win Super Bowls. Great defenses don't give up 98 yard drives ot Kyle Orton or any WB for that matter. Great defenses don't give up 3rd and longs game after game.

This is no more that a somewhat above average defense.

The defense played good enough to win. You can talk about Kyle Orton sucking, but the fact is he was phenomenally accurate today and his passes had plenty of zip. He FAR outplayed Brady and that was the difference in the game.
