I take this report with a grain of salt. Its exciting, but very uncharacteristic to devote so much of the cap to Peppers when they have yet to lock up their big guys that have expiring contracts next year, especially Vince. If the Pats can make the cap work with his signing then I do admit that we will be unstoppable next year.

People need to stop worrying bout the cap if bb wants him the cap won't be a problem it will be taken care of, plus there's no cap next year the pats are loaded with cash and can pay whoever the hell they want however much they want.

FYI... the reason I know this is it came into play when the Pats traded Tebucky Jones to New Orleans.

Link, please. Because that is not the way I remember how the Jones sign and trade went.

I think I found it. They don't need the cap room to carry the full $17M tender.

The CBA says the following:

It is under section 5 of the CBA portion outlining how contracts are counted on the cap. It means, Carolina can sign him to an extension on with the stipulation he receives his bonus after being traded to the Pats.

FWIW - Peppers has to sign his franchise tender first.

I have been very dismissive of this trade as I don't feel we can make enough adjustments to fit him under the cap. I know that we will explore the options and that coach is overwhelmingly impressed by Julius.

let's see if it will really happens

surely i would be excited - he is a great player

this off season looks interesting day after day...

I'm excited when I wake up everyday to read the latest Pats news. I'm sure you're the same.

Per Miguel, there's $7.8M left, but that doesn't include Wright and Galloway yet. Possible? Supposedly something can be worked out, but what is up to the Front Office moving decimal points around.

I think I made this comment the other day Patjew.

Every waking morning has been like Christmas (or for those of you inclined Hanukkah ;) ) on Patsfans.com.

Belichick is sleeping now, by the time I wake up, I expect to have some phone calls about what we have done, or what we are contemplating doing. It's a crazy time right now, and we are giving every effort possible to be a dominant force immediately.

It does make it kind of cool to be upside down, timewise.

when i wake up tomorrow, peppers better be a patriot or move on.

cant handle the stress that comes with the waiting game :D

Well they way I read all this is Pep must wants the Pats and the Pats must want Pep

He'll have said to Carolina-I want the Pats and I'll play hardball until its guaranteed. So the Pats and the Panthers work out compensation and the Pats have to work to clear their own cap room by restructuring etc.

This is most likely whats happening now.

There will then be a 'tag and trade in a day' type scenario and Peppers is traded for #34 (+ maybe a 4th or 5th) and signs a new deal with Pats. Be interesting to see if he's all about money or willing to structure his contract in a friendly way

Theres no doubt in my mind this is all set to happen and its what Peppers wants .. now its a case of everything moving around to get it done

I think the patriots and peppers agent will work out a contract fair to both sides within the next couple days that's the real hard part. Once that is taken care of compensation for Carolina should be easy with the 34th pick and even maybe a 2nd day pick. I really feel like once a contract is worked out the rest will fall into place rather easily.

I hope this deal goes through I really hope I didn't get my hopes up so high and then come crashing to reality with a failed deal.

That figure also does not include Al Johnson, Tank Williams, or Wesley Britt.
