Never read much of him, but thought he was considered the dean of sportswriters in the Boston Area.. without regard, just another lemming piling on BB.. it seems as though the Globe has gotten favorable publicity with the Reiss stuff, but now wants to be cast in the negative limelight.. maybe he is jealous of Maserotti..

Here is what Bill Belichick has done: He has placed Patriots fans on the defensive for the rest of their lives.

He has been exposed as being monumentally disingenuous at best and utterly duplicitous at worst. There can no longer be any doubt that he engaged in a practice he knew was against the rules.

The big question we cannot answer is how important it all was, really. Did his illegal practice of taping opponents' defensive signals aid his team's chances of victory in certain games by 20 percent? Ten percent? Three percent? One-10th of 1 percent? Not at all? No one will ever know....

There is no way out. As long as Bill Belichick is the coach of the New England Patriots, America will despise this team. But a resignation or a dismissal would only lend legitimacy to the entire concept of wrongdoing.

Re: Now Bob Ryan is piling on BB..

Who cares? Seriously, I can't think of one columnist in Boston who matters. Not one is a must read. Not one! These are no longer the halcion days of Boston media when we had the likes of Peter Gammons and Will McDonough writing and they were a must read. Bob Ryan knows his basketball and little else. Honestly, I could care less what Ryan or any of these yahoo mediots think. They don't matter to me! I hope more of you will develop the same attitude. Their opinions simply don't carry any weight with me. They don't matter.

PS - I skimmed through Ryan's piece that you linked looking for the signs and symptoms of mediotitis that so many of these yahoos suffer from. I found it.
Ryan says this about BB....."Highly suspicious of the media."
Always understand that for the mediots it's all about THEM when it comes to Bill Belichick. Always! Ryan's opening comments where he's worried about us fans is poppy****. It's all about BB's refusal to suck the mediot lollipop that infuriates the Ryan's and the Masseroti's.
And the great irony?? Belichick's "suspicion" of the media has proven to be very well justified given the embarrassingly one sided agenda driven coverage we've seen with SpyGate. Once again BB is right on and it kills the mediots that to this very day Bill Blichick will not bow down to them. I love it!!!

Re: Now Bob Ryan is piling on BB..

Keep in mind that Ryan is part of the ESPN family. Anything he says about the Pats is biased.

Re: Now Bob Ryan is piling on BB..

blah, blah, blah, blah, more media verbal garbage, who cars its over, lets stop posting stories these media idiots write

Re: Now Bob Ryan is piling on BB..

Patsgo, Flasox27,and Rhody all three of you are so right. I don't care what any of these clowns say anymore. TALK ABOUT SPORTS you jerks!!
I am sick and tired of this MY OPINION IS SO SPECIAL THAT I'M GOING TO SHOVE IT DOWN EVERY SPORTS FANS THROAT JOURNALISM!! SICK OF IT.
I don't care about your OPINION and Massaroti has informed all of us Patriots fans that our OPINIONS are worthless too. Afterall we are all nothing but a bunch of yahoos. F the media. I didn't even bother to read the crap that this mediot wrote. I am tired of it. It's the same old blah, blah, blah.

If it doesn't come from Mike Reiss or Patriots.com, I am not interested.

Re: Now Bob Ryan is piling on BB..

What we have here is a football version of Watergate.

Bill Belichick is Richard Nixon. Brilliant. Tormented. Paranoid. Controlling. Highly suspicious of the media.

Watergate was overkill. There was no need for it. Like, was Richard Nixon ever really in danger of losing the 1972 election to George McGovern? Spygate was likewise unnecessary. Belichick was, and is, a great football coach. Why did he not trust his own genius to win games honestly, especially after winning his first Super Bowl? Was he that obsessed with victory? Weren't all those hours staring at tapes enough? Did he think he had a divine right to victory? Clearly, something was churning inside that head.

I think these guys in the media think they are Gods. They have no brains. But they think they are all Einsteins.

Spygate vs Watergate? Are you kidding me you stupid low life scum?

When did BB say he has right to victory? You jerk! It is called preparation for a game. He should have stopped the practice as soon as he got the memo or if it was not clear should talk to the league. That was a blunder.

I give this analogy: On the highway, everyone is going at 70-75 when the the limit is 55 mph. The cop stops you. You give some stupid excuse. He gives the ticket anyway. Is it watergate scandal because you gave a stupid excuse?

He has turned out to be far more complex than we ever dreamed, hasn't he? Whoever would have believed Bill Belichick would have had such a tangled personal life? Who really knows this man?

Tangled personal life? Now you have to turn to his personal life? What a motherf*cker this Bob Ryan is? Just because he is columnist he has to target his personal life for breaking a sports rule?

Whatever his motivation, it wound up manifesting itself in colossal arrogance. For after being warned about continuing his illegal practice in a 2006 game at Green Bay, he did it again in, of all places, Giants Stadium the very first game in 2007. What kind of a statement was that? Was he saying "(naughty word) you" to Eric Mangini, a former ally who was now The Enemy?

Now this a*hole goes judgemental. How about sh!tty columnists like you look at yourself and your arrogance.

Remember the ultimate moral of Watergate: The cover-up is worse than the crime.

Now we know that Bill Belichick covered up, and may still be covering up. Matt Walsh says he was told to prepare a cover story for his activities, even as Bill Belichick continues to insist that he had "misinterpreted" the rule in question. He alone of the 32 coaches was confused. Amazing. The commissioner didn't buy it, and neither should anyone else.

The cover-up is what matters now. Bill Belichick has yet to seek mercy from the National Court of Public Opinion. He has his story, and he's sticking to it. He's going to stonewall it, just as he stonewalls a routine injury inquiry. It's just his nature, apparently.

Now here I go berserk. These low IQ, brainless pen farts fart from their mouths, pens whatever they can.

Did he hide the tapes? Did he destroy the tapes/ Did he break any laws? Did he send some goons to NFL's office to steal the tapes? Did he send someone to steal Matt Walsh's tapes? Did he send someone to kill him?

What are you talking about you garbage sh!tty a*hole?

He gave an silly excuse. He was screwed by the league. He cost PATS first round draft pick and he cost himself a chunk of change.

Everything else is a witchhunt. The NY Times, Matt Walsh, a**holes such as you, Tomase, Specter all came up together to spread lies about RAMS videotape before the superbowl because a**holes like you love to spread lies and enhance your pathetic careers. You were all proved wrong. Matt Walsh did not have any video of RAMS. He was not instructed to go the game and spy for PATS by anyone. There are no legs to the LIE. But a**holes like you rant and rant and rant.

Re: Now Bob Ryan is piling on BB..

Bob Ryan of the paper that brought us Ron Borges, must not be not well read. I thought BB publicly apologized at the team meeting. I could be wrong, but in the interview does he not admit to it? I guess Bob Ryan's stints on PTI have made him ESPN, unfortunately.

He appologized to the Owners and Coaches at the meeting. Every media outlet reported it including the coaches that were there. Once again another Mediot that doesn't do their research. I am not surprised.
But there were no writers and cameras in the meeting so it doesn't count.

Re: Now Bob Ryan is piling on BB..

In it's own way this is just Bob defending THE most duplicitous (clever choice of words by Bob - he must have borrowed it from Mannix) aspect of this whole incident - the embarassing conduct of the sports media. Their conduct throughout moreso than Bill's is what has placed Patriot fans on the defensive. The conduct of his hometown media, moreso than his HC, is what Bob Kraft should be livid about. Bob and his brethren want to spin this all back to September. Sorry, September was history, a done deal, this is about February and the hundred days ordeal THE MEDIA put us and the Kraft's through, not what Bill was caught and punished for - a punishment he accepted with more dignity than any of them can apparently accept their's with. Somehow to them it is disingenuous to contend that Bill misinterpreted a rule, but perfectly reasonable to contend that Tomase's merely made a poor choice in verbiage. I'm right, you're wrong, we're principled, he's not, we're to smart to fall for any explanation he offers, you're too invested to admit the real villian is the victim and not the journalists who spewed rumor based venom about him for months only to have the core rumor prove baseless.

Bob can't admit that Bill was victimized because...well...the media doesn't like him. Because to do that would be an indictment of what the sports media itself has evolved into over the last decade - a collection of truly duplicitous pond scum, many of whom have been disciplined for their own misconduct and allowed to simply move on. And all to few of whom in the aftemath have been forced to conclude it was best for all concerned they also move out. This is as much about a region that finds itself with a lone HOF voter who became unemployable in the market he still represents over a personal vendetta with a friggin' football coach. Wrong says thanks for the solid today, Bob. Really loved that you snuck in the little dig at his personal life - page outta my book bro - and the Nixon Watergate analogy really tickled me, Tomase has sufficient girth girth to cover Woodward and Bernstein...dinner's on me next week buddy!

Times are changin in the media. Just not fast enough. The old boy network is shrinking. Maybe in the next belt tightening go round Bob or Shank will get their golden parachute. Naturally this too will be blamed on Belichick.

I read the whole story and I cannot believe how LAZY these

"journalists" are. He says "The big question we can't answer is how important it really was. Did the illegal taping help 20%, 10%..... No one will ever know."

Err, Bob, go ask other coaches. We know exactly what was filmed so go ask somebody who would know. It's not like you need to spilt an atom to find the answer.

Like all these other lazy lazy reporters it's just too easy to write your opinion and not get the facts. I guess Ryan figures he has the divine right to be taken seriously.

I'm mildly surprised, but not shocked. It's clear what's happening here. Irregardless of which paper or news source they work for, these people are all, in some form, coming to the defense of Tomase and Massarotti. The fraternity of media people is one tight, little island.

Re: Now Bob Ryan is piling on BB..

Oh how the mighty have fallen...when I first heard of this piece..I wondered if he was just stating his opnion...MORE like the Curran piece of over a week ago about how teh Pats could not win..but when I started to read it, I realized what it was...another assassination piece by what I have thought WAS a pretty good writer of many years.
Instead, it was more pablum from the ESPN trash talkers..what I thought would have been at least a FAIR piece has now turned into more media idiot poison. That a great writer can fall so fast..puzzled me, for awhile I have not read much of him..as his focus has been elsewhere..Now I am glad I didn't waste my time..he's NOTHING..just another one of the garbage writers..These SOBs do not like Belichick and they will not cease. I think in the long run that the media will be seen for what it is..a witch hunting, lynch mob mentality attacking a team beacuse of jealousness... What a bitter od fart...a shell of the writer he once was..I think ALL should write to him...but really why bother....

Re: Now Bob Ryan is piling on BB..

>>>>What we have here is a football version of Watergate.<<<

It's simpler than that but comparable. In both cases, you had brilliant individuals who looked upon the press with disdain as a necessary evil and the press reciprocated. When the press likes you, they will overlook dalliances and extracurricular affairs. When they hate you (e.g. BB and Nixon) they will jump on the slightest misstep even if done by others as well and blow it out of proportion.....
I'm not justifying the Watergate breakin, just asking what would have happened had it been done by someone liked by the press......
It would be akin to having a popular coach (to the media at least) pipe in sound to disrupt the opposition. I'm sure the press would ignore any allegations.....

Re: Now Bob Ryan is piling on BB..

These media heads believe they alone are to choose who is to be reviled.
They have taken their side and now will pound it into the 'dumb' masses
they preside over.
There is no objectivity in sportswriting.
There are not 2 sides to a story.

Just to show their power play, they are onboard for more punishment even though absolutely nothing new came out of this whole Matt Walsh non-story.
What new information did Walsh have that should lead to new punishment?
Nothing, that's what.
Oh, 1 thing. Matt Walsh lied about the walk-through.
But I'm sure their boy didn't lie about anything else. Right?

Re: Now Bob Ryan is piling on BB..

The premise of Ryans article is Kraft must be surely disappointed at BB. I don't think so, this guy is money. So who cares if BB is not media friendly, I don't want someone who can entertainment with great sound bites or one liners, I want the guy to win on sunday. If that means shutting off the media folks, so be it.

Ryan was a former basketball beat writer, given the subjective nature of calling fouls, he of all writers should realize that principle of "doing business as business gets done" surely applies. What I find concerning is that no beat writer has written how heavy handed the NFL has been, nor the how operating atmosphere has transistion from Tags to Goodfella. Some of these writers are beating a dead horse by piling on spygate and are too lazy to dig into other angles.

He can go back to his desk, fondle his ego and admire how well he writes. Ever since he became a columnist, I stop reading his pieces, they guy thinks he's a moral police.

Re: Now Bob Ryan is piling on BB..

Ryan is a fool if he thinks Kraft is angry or dissapointed at Belichick. If he was, Belichick would not be the coach now. I would be amazed if Belichick didn't prove that many other teams were doing the same thing. If anything, I would think Kraft is dissapointed by Goodell incompetent handling of the whole matter.
Then Ryan has swallowed the ESPN koolaid and will find out that his opnion is a miniscule minority in New England. It may be time for him to join Easterbrook in the ESPN bandwagon.

Re: Now Bob Ryan is piling on BB..

Mike Lupica also has a new hate piece up. The headline compared BB to Clemens and Walsh to McNamee. I didn't even bother clicking on it.

Re: Now Bob Ryan is piling on BB..

It's the Fraternity of media... THAT is what this is all about...nothing less...change the story..Ryan's piece is contempable and shameful....and totally wrong on many counts..

Re: Now Bob Ryan is piling on BB..

I fail to see what changed since camera-gate surfaced in Sept. 2007.
What new stuff is there that the media is a frenzy even greater than then?

1. There wasn't a walk-through tape even though many media heads said there was in fact such video.

2. Walsh sais it was "implied" that he should avoid detection by a couple other video helpers.

3. And if the media wants to believe their boy, why I have no idea,
but it was said the tapes didn't get handed over until after the games, thus crushing the beliefs of haters that the Patriots used them in-game.

It seems to me the Walsh junk should have helped the Patriots and yet the media has decide to re-write the story to better fit what they wanted all along.

Re: Now Bob Ryan is piling on BB..

Guys and gals you must understand just how upset the media is.
Despite their best efforts to destroy him Bill Belichick is still standing and still continues to thumb his nose at and ignore our corrupt
agenda driven local/national media.
This is upsetting to the mediots! This is hilarious to me! ...and should be to you.
I have no more trust in the media (sports or otherwise) than Belichick or 99.9% of the people who must deal with them have.
The collective media is not trustworthy or honest yet they sit in judgement of others?? Simply hilarious!
I really don't think mediots have any idea how little respect they garner with any segment of the population.
