I hear ya. The Maroney fan club loves to take shots at Sammy Morris and say Kevin Faulk's YPC is skewed because they are all "draws"(which is absolutely false), yet they get all up in arms when guys like you and me question Maroney. There is a double standard with these guys. Morris only got yards because he ran against three poor run defenses, yet Maroney's inability to get on track is not his fault and it's the o-line's fault, the gameplan, the coaches choosing not give him more carries, yada, yada, yada. Fellas, the only thing you need to know about Laurence Maroney's career thus far is that Sammy Morris(a career journeyman and backup) played every bit as good(better, in my opinion) in this offense as Maroney.
To even fathom that you could make a legitemate argument to support Sammy Morris as a better running back in year #2 of LoMo's career is sad.

I know right. Lomo is clearly not living up to the hype. A first round pick is a serious talent.

The kid is just not performing. We will see tonight how tough he really is.

Are you calling me a troll for discussing maroney in a thread dedicated to him?

No. And you know it. I'm calling you a troll for ruining yet another thread. Congrats.

Wasn't "LoMo's" first TD of the year ( the TD we waited till week 11 to see)on a draw play. Although he was untouched and only had to run straight ahead into the endzone, it was a courageous effort by this superior talent, despite the deficiencies of the run-challenged OLine. Can't wait for him to bust his first twenty yarder....if BB "gameplans" a first half run. :)

I didnt ruin any thread. I was one of the people in this thread who agreed with the article. One of many. Seems to me that you and came in here upset because you don't like what people like NSA and I have to say. This is the proper place to discuss maroney , since the article that is the topic of the thread does so. Just because you cannot accept it does not mean we are trolls.

Not sure how answering your flame bait questions makes me the one who ruined the thread. Schmessy asked you to stop baiting me. Take the advice , I ain't biting : )

Congrats on ruining another thread. Not my fault you cannot discuss Maroneys lack of effectiveness without getting insulting and or upset to the point where you pretty much will not leave me alone

Good points. Yet again, one of the many excuses for Maroney's ineffective play gets shot down. You are 100% right, the Maroney TD in week #11 was a draw. I'm with ya bro, I will have my popcorn ready in aticipation of the great LoMo's first 20 yard gainer this season. I wonder if they will stop the game and give him the ball so he can keep it for a keepsake?:)

So let's get this straight...you will discredit anything he does. He could rush for 100 yards and you'd still say it wasn't him, correct?

I will but a bottle of champagne to celebrate if maroney gets into the secondary and takes one to the house.

If only he could get to the secondary :(

Its all the O lines fault!

Make you a deal...you document in a thread what Maroney has to do (carries, yards, TDs, long gain, etc.) to get off the "bust" list. After every game, I'll bump the thread and give the difference (positive or negative) between your expectations and the actual results. If you have any new insight to add based on the performance, you can put it there. I anxiously await your Maroney analysis and struggle to find it in the multitude of threads where it is scattered.

Feel free to do the same for Chad Jackson and Meriweather.

Chad Jackson? It goes without saying why Jackson has been a BUST. I mean, good lord, the guy has ZERO RECEPTIONS in year #2 of his career. Nuff' said.

Brandon Meriweather? Is it too much to ask for the "Hit Stick" to beat out Rashad Baker and Eddie Jackson on the depth chart? I'm not asking the guy to start or even to be the nickel or dime back. I just want the guy to set foot on the friggen field during the game, especially when we are up by 30 points or when injuries are calling for fill-ins! I'm sorry, but is it too much to ask for the "Hit Stick" to beat out Rashad Baker and Eddie Jackson when it comes to covering the Kevin Curtis's of the world?

LoMo? Ahhh, yes, the great LoMo. What a STUD. I can't tell you how excited I am to see such a STUD running back like LoMo break one 3 yards left, 5 yards right, 0 yards up the gut, 6 yards left, 4 yards right. He is so explosive isn't he? He does SO MANY things on the field that make you stand up and say "this kid is special!", right? Puhleaze. When this kid takes his high heel pumps off, starts pounding the ball, breaks some long runs, improves his pass receiving skills(nice drop last week), and starts running the ball like a true WORKHORSE 1st rd pick is suppossed to do, than I'll give the kid his due. Until then, the kid is nothing more than a serviceable, 10-12 carry, run-of-the-mill running back.

Just make sure you keep the bottle in the same ice bucket that the 72 Dolphins have theirs in. You may not be popping it for a very long time.:D

Hold on, didn't you say Maroney was a bust? So you're actually gonna give him a chance now?

How can Jackson be a full-fledged bus when he hasn't been able to step on the field much because of two serious injuries.

This thread is viscous yet accurate. This post says it all. People act like we are claiming guys like Meriweather should be all pros. We are asking that he um gets on the field in huge blow outs. Because right now he deosent so much of anything.

Championship post.

Because he cant stay healthy. Some guys can some guys cant.

You agree that it takes a long time to come back from an ACL injury, don't you?

I dont have a lot of beef with Jackson. He can have legit excuses made for him. Because he did have an acl.

Maroney on the other hand. Wellllll

Exactly. It's funny, but I remember everyone getting excited when we drafted Meriweather because he was going to be the cover safety we needed to cover the Dallas Clark's of the world and he was going to give us great depth. How come now that it is clear that he isn't even good enough(yet, at least) to beat out the flotsam and jetsum that is Rashad Baker and Eddie Jackson on the depth chart, we all of a sudden don't need rookies and that rookies need "time" to "learn" the playbook? Hey, we are not asking the guy to be Ed Reed. We are just asking a guy that was good enough to be a 1st Rd draft pick to get on the field at some point during a game!

I believe the most appropriate measuring stick for Maroney is to compare his play with Addai's. Both drafted the same year in essentially the same draft position. Both shared the RB position their rookie year with veterans that are no longer on their teams. Both play for pass first teams .

I was one of those people sticking up for Meriweather when people called him a thug.

That said to this point he has been a disappointment. I mean he cant get on the field in blowouts to make plays.I was excited for his speed. So far nothing. Not even in the blowouts.

Don't mind the flip flopping. Some posters flip flop to whatever agenda best helps them remain close to the tit that is Pioli and Beli.

Thing is these guys are human , and although they are the best in the game , they do make mistakes!

The last two drafts have been suspect , and yes maroney and meri have thus far been a disappointment.

So what does Maroney have to do tonite to meet expectations? 20 carries? 100 yards? 2 TDs?

I didn't care about Meriweather's "thug" reputation either. Frankly, I can care less. I want football players not role models or holy rollers. Maybe I'm a jerk for thinking like that, but I don't care. I was a fan of the Meriweather pick too. However, I don't get paid to make the picks like Pioli does. I'm sure everyone in San Diego was happy when they drafted Ryan Leaf. The GM doesn't get a "pass" from criticism just because the fan base approved of the move at the time. It's a bottom line business. Pioli is the best GM in the league overall in my opinion. However, he needs to step up is drafting. Another draft like the last two and we will be feeling it big time in a year or two. Ordinary players don't win championships. Great players do. We need more 1st rd picks like Seymour, Wilfork, Mankins, and Warren and less of the LoMo's, Daniel Graham's(a reach at #18 even though he was a solid TE), and possibly "Hit Stick"(although I'll give him another training camp and 8 games of next season before I call him a BUST :D ).
