Jets Suck -- 2016 Edition (Official): Futility Confirmed

I can't talk smack about Jets/Pats games. No way to call who'll win 'em. Always great games. Hopefully it'll continue that way for seasons to come. Odds are they'll probably split again.
No, the Green Beans will take a step back this season and I expect the Patriots to sweep.

By the way, have you read this historical account of the New Jersey franchise? I heard it's been updated. Just wondering if you would recommend it:

So you're saying you have to pay $17 million to an aging CB who is slowing down, because of his leadership? I guess that's sort of necessary when your starting QB gets into fights with practice squad-level LBs and gets his jaw busted.... Gonna need a whoooole lot of leadership to make up for that lack thereof!

Really though, the Jets are in a rough place. They're really tight to the cap so they can't front-load a Fitz contract, and they don't want to overpay him which is really the wise choice, but in reality they can't afford to be wise. They sort of need to be stupid and overpay him to at least maintain some level of offensive competence, but they can't afford it... That's tough. Not that I mind! :D

Woody was caught with his pants down when he went for Revis. Too bad he wasn't wearing a tamperon.

The best part of all is that that Jests were negotiating against the Pats for Revis even though the Pats had dropped out a day earlier. I wonder how many more millions that cost them?

Now that wasn't very nice.

We don't need no stinkin' 1st round pick.

Talking roster strategy with a Jest fan is like talking play recognition with John Harbawl.

That's the main point, there aren't better options. Somehow the Jets managed to get a useful season out of Fitzy. They must think they still have a viable team (keeping big ticket items like Revis and Wilkerson suggest that they are all in) so you'd think they realize they need a viable QB.

The only advantage he has is that at least he's been in the system, but given he's just not very smart I don't know much that matters. He's still going to screw up his reads and throw to the other team.

That's what I don't get: the Jets are keeping a lot of expensive vets around, but are on the verge of another season where their best move would be to tank.

Even worse, they don't seem to know who they are: are they a team with a core group they can build on, or are they also-rans who need to blow the team up and rebuild?

This writer is a genius. (Exactly how I see it.)

Ryan Fitzpatrick isn't as good as he thinks he is and the Jets know it

Going back to Geno Smith is the more financially sound decision if New York can’t find a cheaper option. Smith is a very flawed quarterback but not much of a downgrade from Fitzpatrick. He’s just as inaccurate and turnover-prone but has a much stronger arm. His 2014 rate stats (completion percentage, yards per attempt, etc.) aren’t far off from what Fitzpatrick was able to produce with a much better team around him. And at 25, Smith has the much higher ceiling.

really...PLEASE make Geno your #1 QB...we implore you, Jet fan. You must DEMAND that Gee-No! be given the job for the entire season.

I'm doing what I can on my end; spreadin' the gospel.

But thankfully, seems Macc n Bowles are at least partly on board. Many fans see Fitz's "stats" and say sign him for 10/13/16mil... Looks like Jets not budging from 7mil.

Now if they would just decide any number over 3mil isn't worth it, and throw support to Geno, I'd be happy.

Heh, after a year of Gee-No! the Green Beans will wish they'd have given Fitzpatrick anything he wanted. If you're lucky, someone will break Gee-No!'s jaw again before the season starts.

Fascinating factoid: Albert Woolson, America's last surviving Civil War veteran, died just 13 years before the Jets' last championship.

Fascinating factoid: if you attended the legendary Woodstock festival (the same year the Jets won their last championship) at age 19, you now would qualify for full Social Security benefits.

Macc n Bowles sounds like the name of a microwavable snack or side dish.

I have a vivid memory of four of us driving in a car and heading through Wakefield center on the way there. One of the guys called someone to tell them and we found out that it was a logjam and you couldn't get near the place. We then decided not to go. Thank God, because that scene was definitely not this guy's cup of tea.

Too bad, you could have said you were there.
