Not true, a lot of people here wanted to cut him. Get rid of him for nothing.

Unless you think that means they aren't pulling for him now, saying "not true" is not accurate.

Wait, how did I end up in a Keenan Allen thread:)
There's well over 15 pages of Dobson analysis here. I myself engaged in what was probably a 5 page dissection of every one of Dobson's bodily movements during a 2 second time span of a damn preseason game. I think this thread has lived up to its title.

I know, that's why there's a smiley face instead of an eye roll. No thread about a player with one good game in a year and a half can go on for 15 pages without some detours. And I'm one who thinks Dobson heads a real chance to be a #2 receiver, if he can stay reasonably healthy.

I feel like there are still some people that would love nothing more than to see Dobson fail and be released. There was some strange irrational hate for this guy.

It's unbelievable and it makes no sense

Ya. Makes literally no sense. If your a fan of this team why they wouldn't want Dobson to be a reliable outside threat is just beyond me. They are gonna sit there and honestly say they wouldn't want this at some point this season

LaFell ------Edelman ------OL---Gronk--------Dobson

----------------------Brady-- Lewis

Simple explanation for why it doesn't make sense why people wanted to cut Dobson for no reason- because you're wrong.

There's been posters on the board who have felt the same way about Brady, so it's no surprise there are some picking on Dobson.

I don't want players on the team that are non-productive. I would rather give the spot to someone else. If Dobson produces...then I want him on the roster. I can't speak for everyone...but that's how I feel.

TB12 will have more trust in Dobson by the end of the bye week and then.. watch out NFL!!!!!

But what about when Lafell comes back

They can take turns. One goes in every other play. The receiver with the highest contribution to the game will then be allowed to wear a crown for the week. Person with most crowns gets to stay next year.

In all seriousness -- depth can't hurt. Also, I'd love to see these two on CB3s and CB4s.

There may not have been many who explicitly said they wanted him to fail but there have certainly been some who have asked for him to be cut after he couldn't reel in a highlight catch in preseason that turned into an interception. Christ there was at least a couple of people who seemed eager for it. Some even believed that Thompkins is a better option.

Not saying the guy has been a big contributor but after his improvement throughout his rookie year when healthy, I believed that he could be a real player for us if he could keep himself on the field. He is no Chad Jackson or Brandon Tate and I've felt that way since he started improving as a rookie...around the 2013 Saints game.

Wait, we're now to the point of claiming that a blown routine catch was a "highlight catch", and calling his regression during his rookie season "improvement"?

And people wonder why I mock excessive homerism?

How did he regress during his rookie season? He started with dropped balls during the Jets game and people were bashing him for a while. He improved from then on until he was injured and out for the rest of the season. He did fine (I mentioned the Saints game) and had a five game stretch prior to his injury where he caught more balls than Edelman. He never regressed during his rookie year. That's fiction.

Yes of course it is excessive homerism to believe that one player has potential and perhaps is not as bad as he's been made out to be in the past by a sizable portion of the fanbase.

You want to know what I consider mentally strong. Having feelings of wanting to quit, sucking it up, getting re focused, and coming out to have a rookie year in which you he went for almost 1100 yards, 8TD, having 71 receptions on 105 targets and only 4 DROPS. 80% of his catches went for first downs and he finished #10 that year on PFF WR's list.

Yeah, I really think he's mentally weak..... In the NFL where stats do the talking , he statistically proved anyone and everyone who doubted him wrong.

Yea there is something to be said about that. i think it's forgotten or overlooked sometimes that these are 22 year old kids coming out of college and are entering an incredibly demanding profession with all eyes on your every move and media that can't wait to build you up and/or tear you down

It's not uncommon that someone that young could have some doubts and possibly a lack of confidence, but being able to overcome that, grow and be successful are the signs of maturity and mental toughness

I am quite confident that if the pats had taken Allen instead of Dobson this board would have been up in arms about taking such a slow receiver with injury concerns and on the verge of retiring in the 2nd round. If any of the armchair GMs around here though can link to their post during the 2013 draft where they declared that Keenan Allen would have been a much better selection then I will bow down and admit that BB can't draft and surely can't compete with your scouting prowess. Serious.
Go look it up yourself in the Draft forum. My feelings were made known at the time.

Bill should've drafted Keenan Allen, plain & simple. It wasn't the first time he failed to maximize
(to put it kindly) a 2nd-round pick, and it certainly wouldn't be the last time either.

He's becoming the new Laurence Maroney of the board. He is creating that kind of dichotomy right now. Sunday was very encouraging. I hope he can build on it so that his career here does not go the way of Laurence Maroney.

Great comparison

The arrow is clearly pointing up with Dobson right now. If he can continue to perform, and figure out a way to stay on his feet in order to get YAC, he'll figure in on this offense once LaFell gets back. That's a very good thing no matter your like or dislike for the player.
