Final round of roster cuts for Patriots

Since LaFell never practiced he is eligible for PUP and can come back after week 6.

IR with designation to return (also called "Short term IR") is where a player hurt during the pre-season can return after week 8 of the regular season.
Are they being paid and how does that affect cap? Do they count against the 53? Can they be poached by other teams?

Miguel said they were $800 K OVER so they had to cut somebody or several somebodies to get under the CAP.

Miguel did not say they were 800K over. Miquel said that based on HIS projected 53 man roster PLUS Blount, Fletcher and Chris Jones, eht Pats would be 800K over.

Miguel's projection included Wayne and Gray making the team with Lafell also active..

**** is that Bill Cosby too?

People on the PUP are not part of the 53 man roster. They can not be "poached" by another team. But they DO count against the salary cap.

Yes. On it. No. No.

3 more cuts, and the following are still on the active roster:

WR Harper
WR Saunders
TE/T Williams
OL Andrews
DL/LB Martin
DL/LB Johnson
CB Swanson
S King

There's gonna be some surprises on the team, although the end of today is just the beginning of lots of moves.

They can't be poached and still count against the cap. We'd have to ask Miguel how much they count.

I think cutting Wayne and PUPing LaFell means Dobson and Harper make the WRs right?

Edelman, Amendola, Dobson, Harper, Saunders, Slater. Ouch.

Thank god we have Gronk and Chandler at TE!

Reiss is now reporting that Wayne asked t be released, so I'm guessing that might lead to some cap relief

Can someone explain the various levels of IR and PUP?

There are the following:
IR - Designated to return - player is out for minimum of 6 weeks.
Injured Reserve - Player is out for the season.
IR w/Injury Settlement - Player is no longer on the roster. He can not return to his original team for X+6 weeks.

Reserve/Non-Football Injury (NFI) - Means that the player was injured outside of football activities. Team may not have to pay player's salary.

Reserve / PUP - Player can only be placed here if he was on PUP list during Training Camp and did not participate in any Practice activities.

It was a good move. They didn't what the deal would be with LaFell and they didn't know about Dobson.

I thought I heard La Fell dressed and practiced today. So Wayne's insurance policy was no longer needed. Plus Miquel says they have to find $800K to get under the CAP.

No. It was reported that Lafell was in the locker-room, but not on the field.
And would you please stop with your claims about what Miguel said. You're wrong. Miguel did NOT say that. Miguel said they were over based on HIS projected roster... There is a huge difference.

Eric Martin, forgot about him. Somebody hyped him and he had good tape from somewhere.

I think it's safe to say that King will be cut.. No way Pats are keeping 7 safeties..

From what I saw this preseason, Martin sure looks like he can get after the QB.

I thought he was cut earlier, or was there another unknown safety?
