Gotta disagree with you here.. I still feel bringing him in was a great move. Even if it was for a week and a half to show the younger guys the type of commitment you need to make to be successful.
Exactly what "type" of commitment do you think Wayne demonstrated during his ten day stint? Maybe I'm missing something here but I have to believe most people would equate quitting with "lack" of commitment.

To be fair, they actually had a guy who KNEW the playbook on their team and it didn't matter.

Plus, it's essentially the same one they've had for the last 16 years or so. No real surprises.

True.

Who can forget when Deion Branch signed with them two years ago, practically on game week.

But you didn't see any newspapers around here calling him a "traitor"...

You have to wonder if Wayne's going to retire. He did tell me his first practice with the Patriots felt like "hell."
I'm sure at 27 years old Reggie could have handled this place and excelled. At 37, who knows.

Anyway if he did in fact ask for his release I respect him for it. He was honest with himself and didn't just go out there and collect a paycheck.

Meh. He flunked the conditioning test. So did Blount and a few other players. There were also some key players from the 01-04 run that also flunked it. I don't put very much stock in those. Sorry.

He had a DWI. Certainly a bad decision but there are worse things he can do.

Fat, out of shape and lackadaisical play? Well, he is fat. Most DTs are out of shape. In the 1st qtr of the game Thursday I saw Branch push the pocket, slide his man to the right, jam a gap and allowed Fleming to nail the ballcarrier for a no gain.

He has a modest deal and is fine in a DT rotation. Great insurance if Seal or Easy-E get hurt and Brown or Chris Jones struggle this year.

OK, let's look at your post point by point:

1) Gray passed his conditioning test, Branch didn't. You put no value in that, but for all the hand wringing about Gray being a 'bad attitude' because he was a few minutes late to one meeting - - well, signing a multi-year contract and not using the 5 months off to arrive in MINIMUM standard shape is a FAR bigger sign of attitude.

2) DWI "worse things he can do" (like being late to one meeting?) - - see point 1 above (oh and btw, it is NOT insignificant when the next one means automatic games suspension).

3) 'He has a modest deal' - - not as cap friendly as Gray's - - nowhere close.

4) 'Great insurance if Seal or Easy-E get hurt and Brown or Chris Jones struggle this year' - - so he is insurance for 4 guys ahead of him. Gray is insurance for 1 guy.

Guess you missed them talking about how he was one of the first ones in, last ones out and giving it his all to learn the playbook. Furthermore, he didn't look out of sync in the offense, which can't be said for Lindley..

If he's retiring because his body can't handle it, how is that a LACK of commitment?

The pats tried. RW for all we know "tried" The poster who claimed he "wasted our time" is a clown. Better to know now.

What does Gray have to do with Branch? I never mentioned Gray.

Some explanation

Pats obviously want Coleman on the Practice Squad.. by signing him for one day and then waiving it blocks other teams form putting him on PS

Come on...I was really excited to see Reggie Wayne catching footballs from Tom in Indy.

@Tom_Montana12 any reason for giving me a disagree rating

Your decision is more puzzling than Belichick letting go of Gray
