Official Brady vs. NFL Federal Court 8/12 Thread (LIVE UPDATES)

Could someone please add context for me here.
I thought the basis for this hearing was primarily whether the process for discipline as described in the cba was adhered to or violated and that the findings in the Wells report were irrelevant.
This is what my understanding was based on not just the mediots but also legal experts (McCann and others) which was very disappointing.

Has the fact the judge focused on the actual facts of the case been analyzed and discussed by any legal experts as opposed to the cba process? I heard one thought that it was done to bring the two sides closer to arriving at a negotiated settlement.

Watching NFL* Live right now and their legal guy says Judge will rule for NFL* in the end.

Sounds like you might have been Munsoned?

NFL Live is owned by the NFL.. did you expect them to go against the Imperial Leader???

Still harping on CBA and how courts give arbitors decision more weight

Courts might look at the definition of Arbitrator too.

arbitrator

Listening to WEEI.

They found someone who had a worse day than Roger.....the sketch artist. hahaha

In addition to smearing Brady's reputation, Goodell has also ruined the sketch artist's. At least, he can say this one was just collateral damage.

What context is there to add? The judge clearly felt that the process included everything that led up to the point we're at now. So that would include the investigation and any evidence that was used to make both the initial decision and the decision upon appeal.

This was done to point out the "weaknesses" of the others arguments in an attempt to get the two sides talking since they haven't been because the NFL is insisting that Brady accept the Wells report as factual before they will even discuss anything. And Berman basically said in court that they need to drop that demand because the Wells report doesn't give them a leg to stand on..

Roger Cossack. I made the mistake of checking on ESPN to see adam schefter. Started off good until the panel started spinning things like the NFLPA were getting grilled just as bad as the NFL. And then Merril Hoge said he thinks it'll be overturned because the more he hears the more he believes the NFL has no evidence against Brady and evidence is what it comes down to in contrast to Cossack saying it comes back to the CBA and arbitration disputes is like 66 out of 68 in that court in favour of being upheld.

The globe bringing out out their last ditch effort attacks as their beloved baseball team inches closer to the basement.

This is why I shake my head when someone on a national TV or radio show talks about the "homer" media in Boston. This is the top (or one of the top two) paper in the state supporting the NFL in a witch hunt against a Patriots QB. Not really a bastion of homer-ism.

Kravitz on the run. Time for the coup de grâce.

It doesn’t take a genius to read the tea leaves. This is all starting to head south for the NFL, which can’t afford to take another shot across the bow. As it is, NFL owners are growing tired of Goodell’s missteps; he’s in a position where he needs to save what’s left of his reputation.

To put it in football terms, you just have to know when to take the sack or throw the ball out of bounds. Well, it’s time for the NFL to live for another play. This judge sounds more like a fan than he does a federal arbitrator, and based on what we’ve heard Wednesday, it sounds like he’s leaning in Brady’s direction. Make a deal, fellows.

Can't believe ESPN worded their poll this way (in an attempt to steer people into thinking the NFL had a stronger case. For those who don't want to click on an ESPN link here is the question and possible answers (75% leaning toward option 1 so far).

Question: What was your takeaway from Wednesday's Deflategate hearing in federal court?

Answers:
  1. Judge appeared to cast major doubt that the Wells Report implicated Brady.
  2. Judge seemed to try to scare both sides by poking holes in their arguments.
  3. Judge seemed to be leaning toward the NFL's side, especially in asking why Brady did not cooperate with Wells.

Yeah, doesn't #46 refer to a hearing officer, not specifically an arbitrator? Maybe splitting hairs, but isn't that what legal decisions turn on?
