OT: MLB St. Louis Cardinals Hack Gate

Lindough didnt change his password when he switched teams.

This isnt some group of cardinals blackhats hacking everybody in some basement dwelling. This is some FO guy coming across old passwords and testing them out.

give me a break. /care

The guy who did it will be fired and ejected from ever working in baseball again. And im fine with that.

So corporate espionage is okay as long as the victim is really, really stupid?

Don't get me wrong, the guy who used the same password across organizations is an idiot who should be fired and blackballed for the league for his sheer stupidity. But that doesn't absolve the Cardinals if they actually did what's being reported.

What to probably wasn't counted on was some nutball leaking the info. We don't know that to be the case about the password do we? I heard a list, but possibly it was a variation of one of the ones on the list. Regardless, I have a hard time believing that this info didn't filter into the front office. This will end very badly for several people I believe.

Nice try Cards! But you still can't top taking air out of footballs. Letting air out is MUCH WORSE of an offense than hacking into another team's computers.

the worst offense is use of the phrase "dorito dink." that deserves a loss of a 1st round pick.

d.
no they should be punished if there was some directive from ownership/ higher ups.

But its hilarious and a bit hypocritical to me to see this investigation coming from a government that does more corporate espionage everyday then the Cardinals could in 100 years.

It's hard to believe they weren't at least generally aware of what was going on.

I think if the Cards had just come clean to begin with it wouldn't have even been a big deal. Now that they've hidden it all this time they've made it into a big deal. It's not about a computer or hacking. It's about the integrity of the game which has been violated. Anyone who has ever watched a baseball game, or eaten a Frankfurt or even deposited a check has been violated. The MLB HAS to come down hard on the Cardinals. Take away their 2013 National League title.

Not really a big deal. It isn't like the weather deflated the Cards' baseballs and the Umpire was unaware of the ideal gas law and accused them of cheating when they actually did nothing wrong. Now that would be a real crime.

Of course this is not the lead story on either the ESPN main site or the ESPN MLB page. The same people who left the Kelly Naqi story on their homepage and NFL page for a half a day after their own Adam Schefter discredited the story.

Probably hacked ESPN too.

You are dreaming here. This happened in Formula 1 and it was a 100M Euro fine which was around $125M then

Idiots on other boards have all ready started blaming the Patriots. Supposedly tongue in cheek.

Let's be honest here, Belichick knew Tony Larussa pretty well, and he must have been generally aware that any management team that would hire Larussa would likely hire a manager who would hire someone who would cyber steal information from opposing clubs. I think Belichick should be given a lifetime ban from baseball. It's only right.

If the order to do this came from higher up in the Cardinals organization as opposed to a couple of low level employees doing something foolish...then the Cardinals organization is in serious, SERIOUS trouble.

This goes way beyond cheating, this is a federal crime.

At the risk of being unpopular, I'm more on StLRamBringer's side at this point. We of all people should know better than to jump to conclusions at this point. Obviously I give the Feds a heck of a lot more credibility than an NFL investigation, with or without an "independent" investigator. But still, I want to see the case before I truly pass judgement. For all we know, Deadspin's source is Chris Mortensen.

If you asks me, this is a bit worse even. Financial details and the knowledge of proposed trades that players may have had zero knowledge about. Either way, it's not a good look and the lack of attention it is getting is a bit alarming. Then again, this is something tangible, not conjecture spewed by a corrupt NFL.

A post season ban is immensely responsible. They didn't just get Astros stuff, they have conversations about numerous other organizations. One states a team is looking at keeping an 85mm dollar payroll. That's a huge advantage. Yes are you hurting the players? Sure. But you still pay them. You have to do something huge to hurt them, as much as possible. They do it in college.

If all of this is proven and a crime was committed...turning their 43-21 record into 0-64 and making them ineligible for the draft next year would be a start.

Well the information was out last year, at least some of it. So everyone knew they had been hacked. That is beyond refute at this point. That being the case, the Pats are still being skewered over some out of context text messages. I don't believe it's hard to jump to a conclusion in this case. As to how high it went, now that's where the reigns needs to be pulled in. That fact does not alleviate the issue of it did occur. Since we know that, it deserves a ton of scrutiny and indignation. That indignation can possibly only grow when the whole story comes out.

I'd like to thank Crackhead Bob one more time for caving in to Goofell. Now every time a scandal breaks all geniuses on social media take digs at the Patriots. **** you Bob.

Lol, that was happening on a widespread, hysteria-tinged basis long before Kraft caved in. That ain't a new sporting past time...

I'll wait to see more evidence before I start calling a teams character into question while calling the whole Cardinals organization a fraud boo hooing for asterisks. Bet Cub fans are having a field day right now. Probably explains their lack of success the last millennium. Sound familiar!

We of all teams should know better. This is exactly how hypocritical mobs start.
