Though they were clearly interested and go outbid.

Again, there was interest. Hartline said the Patriots were a "close second" to the Browns, indicating that the Pats offered him a lower contract than the Browns did.

Illogical since the Pats didn't have the draft resources to do this without a trade up. You have no idea where those players were on BB's board.

Unexpected due to character issues.

Belichick himself was reported to have watched Coates closely at Auburn's pro day and Conley had a personal workout. I guess this is maybe so that they can sign with the 2014 world champs in the future or maybe not.

This is called a strawman. Nobody is asking for the next Randy Moss. People are simply looking at the WR position, the history of injuries with the personnel, and the fact that this is a physical sport coupled with the depth (or lack thereof) behind the starters, and correctly pointing out that there is a need here. It really doesn't take a Sherlock Holmes to piece this all together. The Patriots made a contract offer to Stevie Johnson, they probably made one to Hartline (based on his words), and they worked out Agholor, Conley, Crowder, Kennedy, and Parker and Belichick was reportedly keeping a close eye on Coates at Auburn's pro day. How much more proof do you need that they consider depth at the position a need?
You're a WR Madden/Fantasy whore. You were wrong. We signed Brandon Gibson and drafted no WR's in the first 3 Rd's. That is the truth.

Nice. Ad hominem attacks are usually the first sign of this...

I think Mike Davis - RB could start for us once he gets the offense down. Either half-way thru 2015 or next year.

My two favorite RB's remaining are Davis and Arits-Payne. So I'm definitely in the same camp.

Gavin Lutman is one name to look for. Big athletic WR that comes from the same school that the Cards' John Brown did. He had a very good first year, maybe that could be true for Litman too.

Belichick obviously didn't think Coates was any better than Dobson or likes other receivers better.
Unfathomable to us he likes Jordon better than Coates, Conley, Strong and some others.
Smelter and Diggs have Patriot written all over them I hope I'm right and we get at least one of 2.
Both can Stretch the field and have better hands than Coates, Perriman, Dorset taken much earlier.
The board will erupt when we draft a receiver who is 5f7 and ran a 4.8 who played on special teams for some junior college I can't wait!

Pray for a WR. Maybe you get a Jeremy Gallon pick so you sound realistic. Good luck with that.

We signed Bradley Fletcher, Robert McClain and didn't draft a CB in the first 3 rounds, does that mean CB isn't a need?

I was so sad to see Coates go, but the fact he went to the Steelers just makes me feel sick. Even this morning I'm still sick about it.

BB worked out a WR. Definately are after a WR. No doubt about it.

@nfldraftscout: Jamison Crowder is Danny Amendola without the injuries.

We met with him & had a private workout I think. Makes sense as a pick to replace Amendola next year and serve as depth. He can play outside too.

Who am I kidding, just hoping BB drafts one binky. :D

I think we may still. A WR today wouldn't shock me either.:)

Actually, I hated the Gallon pick last year even though I was pro-WR. All the signs are there that the team is aware of the need and yet you choose to ignore those signs because you have a preconceived bias against drafting at the position (probably based on some heated debate you got into on this website with another poster, so now you have to stick to your guns) instead of thinking critically about the matter. I'll reverse that and say that you should pray the Patriots don't draft one because their guy isn't left on the board. Then, in the event of injuries, we can either rely on Brandon Gibson. Maybe Austin Collie is still waiting by the phone. That would be, like, so sweet and stuff bro.

If we go g/rb at 101 and 111, I'd love to get Smelter at 131. I don't think McBride lasts until 131.

I've said these names a few times so far but Tre Jackson and TJ Clemmings would get this 3rd day off to a good start.

The 4th and 5th rounds are traditionally where BB will take risks on guys with medical concerns (Stork, Boyce, Cannon). I think one of our 4th rounders will be a risk/reward type guy. I'm really hoping for Clemmings simply because I think he has the highest upside.

RB. Really? With Blount, Gray, Cadet, Bolden, White, Develin and Gaffey already on the roster? Another Madden/Fantasy dream.
