he deserves it...has played very well

Seems like a good value for a player who has turned his career around and appears to have learned from his year away from the team. I give Chung credit he did some interviews when he was with the Eagles and hosts attempted to lead him into saying something negative about Belichick and he never did, he kept the door open for a return and it paid off for him. Players like Spikes, Welker, etc. could learn from that.

Not only that, but he is one of the most active local charity participants on the team. The guy and his family have really laid down their footprint here. BB loves him and he is one of the Swiss Army knife - SS/ST players that are good glue.

Neither of these signings will prevent them from their two big ones: Revis and McCourty

Revis and McCourty are kind of linked. Signing Revis and lowering his first year cap number to ~15M instead of 25M frees up 10M.

I'm not even sure we have enough cap room to franchise McCourty. A franchise tag would probably be around 8-9M, but I don't think the final figures will be available until they announce the official 2015 salary cap as its figure as a percentage of the cap.

Very happy.

Now THIS bodes really well for McCourty staying put. Read what his TWIN BROTHER (it doesn't get any closer than that) is saying:

".....“But every year, a part of me simmers with envy. I remember 2012, when the Patriots won the AFC Championship. A bunch of our teammates from Rutgers went up there to cheer Devin on. … Right then, I saw what it looked to come within striking distance of the ultimate goal. Those smiles, that feeling — I wanted to experience that, too.......

..........A lot of people think athletes are only in it for the money, but when you play this sport, you play to win (Herm Edwards would agree),” Jason wrote. “Those who become truly successful, those who are remembered as great? They win. The ultimate prize, no doubt, is a Super Bowl ring.”

Surprised Bolden got that much but happy to hang onto him. Love Chung deal if he can stay productive. Don't want TBC part II. Didnt get much money anyways but thats great value if he keeps up his play.

Bolden got "that much"? Base salaries of 660K next year, 760K in 2016 with only a 300K signing bonus.

Dude plays all 4 ST's and is an excellent 4th string RB who has had a couple of 100 yd games when given the chance in the past.

I think they got a hometown discount here on a player who is still developing in his 3rd year.

Chung is getting well compensated, however and I still can't understand the largesse being given to Cannon..

Wait! So if we win the SB then McCourty has reached his goal and leave for $?

Yes- kind of linked but I don't think its a situation where they will go over budget on one player and that precludes them from signing the other

I'd be willing to bet that the team has already modeled out a number of scenarios of how much bonus and over what period of time it is to be paid, what the cap hit is, and what they are capping their commitment at for each player. If both players want "A-Rod" money then neither one will be back. If they are both reasonable and the money, cap and guarantees work out, then both will be here.

Not if he talks to our last two great safeties Lawyer Milloy or Rodney Harrison.

I think their advice in this situation (from two very different career experiences) would be pretty much the same.

I like the re-sign and its pretty much back up money so It works out good for the team but I would still like to see them sign or Draft a guy that can push him for the starting job

My list of priorities for the offseason started with Cannon, Bolden, and Chung!
Hopefully Boyce, Butler, and Develin get taken care of next!

Then, if there's anything left, consider one or two guys like maybe Revis, McCourty, Gostkowski, Connolly, or Ridley!

RBs signed through 2015:

Blount
Gray
Bolden
White
Gaffney
Lewis

Anyone think we may stand pat and just roll with that group? Blount has a 4.6 career ypc 700 carries into his career. He's an above average starting RB who's success is very dependent on the OL. An improved OL could make Blount a 1200 yard type back.

Gray is a mystery, but seems to be an NFL caliber backup atleast. Bolden is a ST guy, can catch the ball, and is a RB4. The only player missing is the Faulk/Woodhead/Vereen. I guess the other 3 RBs + a UDFA could compete for that role.

I would sign Woodhead for cheap money and roll with:

Blount
Woodhead
Gray
Bolden
Gaffney/White/Lewis/UDFA

I've been going back and forth on a 2nd-3rd rd RB, but a 2nd-3rd rd OL will help Brady and Blount more.

All about value. Those are good deals, nice job by the FO. They are going to do everything they can to keep, this team together to,the degree they can.

It seems like Pats' fequent approach is to lock up the small fish early on and keep their options open. I'm sure they will try to resign Vereen (not quite as sure about Ridley), but if they can't do it within their price range then they have 7 RBs already under contract. Similarly, that gives them the option of getting an upgrade in the draft if the opportunity arises, but not having to do so.

Gray is a mystery only because BB/McDaniels have kept him a mystery in the doghouse. It would be nice to see what we have there. When he has gotten the chance to really carry (Detroit,Indy and 2nd half of Miami) the kid has shone.

Reminiscent of the old joke: "Who was the last man to hold Michael Jordan to less than 20 points per game? Dean Smith..

I hope not. I'd like to see either Vereen or Ridley retained, preferably both. Though that might be a tad unrealistic.

From Ridley's perspective, I have a hard time seeing the Pats as an attractive spot. He can go to Indy and be their best RB day 1 (on a team that wants to run the ball, just can't) or somewhere like Dallas if jerry chooses Dez over Murray. If he signs here for cheap, great. But why compete with Blount/Gray? I think we could get outbid.

Vereen is just aggravating at times. I think Woodhead is a more consistent player. Not sure what my ceiling would be on a Vereen contract.

They'll try to keep Vereen. I think Ridley's gone, unless he's willing to take a very low end deal.
