These truly are words I never thought I would say about a 3 year contract for Chung "Love it". I hated the signing during the off-season. Turns out I was extremely wrong. Chung really has turned around his play

Source: the Patriots have signed starting S Patrick Chung to a 3-year extension through 2017 worth up to $8.2M, with $3.4M guaranteed.

Seems like a good value for a player who has turned his career around and appears to have learned from his year away from the team. I give Chung credit he did some interviews when he was with the Eagles and hosts attempted to lead him into saying something negative about Belichick and he never did, he kept the door open for a return and it paid off for him. Players like Spikes, Welker, etc. could learn from that.

This - a year ago - would have been beyond laughable. But here we are, and I don't hate it at all.

But for this signing to make sense, I think it's crucial McC and Revis return.

Hes played well this year. I'm glad that they were able to work out a deal.

He still makes me nervous in pass defense beyond 15 yards but he is a monster vs the run.

Good for him. I don't hate this signing at all the guy has done his job. Patriots need to keep this defense together if they can.

Would be great to keep this secondary together that's a good amount less than I had believed he would get.
Hopefully Mccourty and Revis follow suit.
Would be great to keep this secondary together.

Brandon Bolden too

Source: the Patriots have signed RB Brandon Bolden to a 2-year, $2.32M extension through 2016. A top special teamer for them.

Locking everyone up but the big names so far. Probabaly a good selling point that they're keeping the band together

As one of the lone voices who actually thought before the season that Chung could be a good contributor to this team, the man has far exceeded my expectations. I figured he would be a solid contributor as a run down, close to the line safety. He was far more than that. He is still a liability in deeper coverage, but his coverage skills have become far better this year than I can ever remember him playing. I am glad to see him back.

Now get McCourty and Revis signed long term. I think McCourty is destined for the franchise tag though.

Good for Pat. He exceeded my expectations this year.

Neither of these signings will prevent them from their two big ones: Revis and McCourty

Revis and McCourty are kind of linked. Signing Revis and lowering his first year cap number to ~15M instead of 25M frees up 10M.

I'm not even sure we have enough cap room to franchise McCourty. A franchise tag would probably be around 8-9M, but I don't think the final figures will be available until they announce the official 2015 salary cap as its figure as a percentage of the cap.

Very happy.

A few years ago I would have slit my wrists at the thought of re-signing Chung.

However; this guys has truly earned it. Credit has to go to the coaching staff, I think that they have put him in positions to succeed whereas last time around they struggled to fit him in to our sytem, but ultimately it's down to him.

The marked improvement in his game has been phenomenal.

Well deserved extension.

Can't argue with Bolden either. Solid Special Teams guy who has performed well when his number has been called upon.

Good price for a guy in his role. I'm happy for Chung, he seems like a hard working kid.

I honestly am surprised at the Bolden extension. The guy is a penalty machine on special teams.. Yes, he had the one blocked punt that put SD's punter out for the season, but that's been it. Otherwise he's been wildly inconsistent and mediocre..

I would have rathered them use the money to extend Ayers since I can see Ayers taking over for Ninkovich in a year or two..

Should be interesting to see him in this game. I think ravens are going to target him a lot in PA passing like the jets did.
