im not worried about his arm or his height......i think they are more than adequate

his lack of speed, combined with his small hands, gives me pause

he ran a 4.94.......brees ran a 4.83.......he's only "mobile" in comparison to Brady and Manning

i like his confidence........and his decision making/accuracy seem to be good.......we will see how they progress

just my opinion

I think he is a decent prospect but he isn't anything more than that at this point. I will be interested to see where he is at after 3 years studying under Brady because being a good NFL QB is more about decision making than anything else and he has about 1,000 of the experience and understanding of the game that Brady has.

I have watched the video Snake Eyes has posted a few times, and the tape for the 2 regular season games, in addition, I have gone back through the scouting process. I am tagging you all to admit I was wrong with my opinion of Garopollo, he is very promising and could potential be an elite QB.

I still have concerns about his contract and how it aligns with the need for a new QB, and I absolutely do not think Tom Brady will be cut or traded before the end of his current contract. But I could see them resigning Garopollo if he continues to impress in practice, preseason, etc.

Kudos to you for following up that way. it's impressive. I agree that this isn't an issue for at least another two seasons after this one (barring injury). Going into TB's last year, we'll see. I expect they'd decide what they'll do going forward at that point.

Respect for doing that!

Agree with you on Brady. He's here atleast through 2016 unless Garoppolo gets really good really(Brady right now level) fast and(not or) we get an amazing trade offer. 2017 is the first year where we really would save a lot to let go of Brady (9m). But Garoppolo would have to prove that he and 9m is better than Brady that year. Unless Brady starts sucking or gets a serious injury I think he stays through his contract.

But I don't think resigning Garoppolo would be a big problem. I think Kraft and Belichick knows very well how hard it is to get a good QB and how valuable they are, so they probably won't let him go because of the money. He would probably get something structured like the Dalton contract where not too much is guaranteed so that the team isn't locked in on him for lots of years at high cap hits if he turns out to be a dud, but allows him to get good money if he stays as the starting QB.

You know I was listening to NFL network this morning and I heard Chip Kelly’s press conference, and he said something along the lines of you need 2 QBs in the NFL or you basically concede failure for an entire season if an injury occurs. I was half asleep on my couch at like 530am and barely listening but that caught my attention, and I thought to myself, at the very least if Brady went down with Garopollo we may not be as good but we can still keep ourselves competitive.

Speaking to the future I think they would just do something like they did with Revis where they give him a 2 year deal with some guaranteed money in year 1, and then an opt out for March 1 of the following year. If Garopollo seizes the opportunity, they give him a long-term deal, if he does not, well you have a decision to make but worst case you cut bait and move on.

Here is the thing about the trade idea for Brady, if nobody was willing to give the Colts anything for Manning, granted he was coming off an injury, I am not sure we would get much for a 38-40 year old Brady.

I would add this - I do not think that they will cut or trade Brady as I have said. However, with additional thought I do not rule the possibility that if Brady wins 2 more Super Bowls (possible) say 2014 and 2015, or 2015 and 2016 that Brady would retire and go out on top with the most Super Bowl wins by a QB ever. Needless to say from injury to unexpected retirements, etc. there are plenty of reasons to be happy about have Garopollo and I see that now.

Lots of people on forums always say that backup QB doesn't matter because"We won't win the super bowl if Brady is out", and I agree that without Brady in the actual super bowl we would most likely loose. But for me the importance of a good backup QB is when your starting QB misses a few games during the regular season. Say that your starter misses 6 games. With a bad backup you might loose all of them. With a good backup you can maybe win 3 of those. That can very well be the difference between making or missing the playoffs.

People forget that backup QB HAVE won SBs in the past, most notably Jeff Hostetler and Doug Williams.

OTOH remember that Brady's 2017 salary is only $9M, not $15M+ like Manning's was.

... and some kid from Michigan that was drafted 199th in 2000. The name escapes me.

That was easily one of THE best posts I've seen on the board, it's rare that someone displays that kind of humility.

If we ever meet the first round is on me.

I think overall it is just not good for a team to get used to losing, players will play at less than 100% and those habits will carry over.

True Brady was technically the backup in 2001, Kaepernick was technically the backup QB in 2012 when the 49ers won the NFCCG and lost in the Super Bowl. Trent Dilfer was the backup QB to Tony Banks in 2000 when the Ravens won the Super Bowl. Actually the one that is most notable is Earl Morrall who went 11-0 and led the Dolphins to their perfect season after Bob Griese went down with an injury.

Morral also led the Colts to the SB, but then lost in the big one.

Regardless of what I, or anyone else THINKS may happen, I think we all know that Jimmy G is most likely not going anywhere. Why would BB give the sole backup QB position to a rookie, who he picked at #62? He obviously sees alot of potential, and I trust in his ability for judging QB potential. After all he did draft Brady. That said, we cannot reasonably expect JG to be anything special yet at this point, but I see no reason to trade him just yet. Let him learn behind one of the best and then make that decision down the road when there's a better indication of his future talent.
