2014 Season Moot?

I think people underestimate the loss of Eric Decker, Peyton Manning does not throw a tight football, he never has and he benefited from Thomas, Thomas, and Decker being 6’3” or taller.

If you look at Manning's stats last year, he was horrible on passes over 20 yards and many of the passes going 15-20 were floaters that Decker and Thomas had to go up for. Emanuel Sanders ain't doing that at 5'11".

People just assume that Sanders is going to go to Denver and become a 1,000 plus yard receiver with 8 or 9 TDs. I don't know if he will. I watched him a lot last year because I figured the Pats might go after him in free agency this offseason and I saw a guy that Roethlisberger tried to get involved in the game and was wildly inconsistent. The Steelers let him walk away and re-signed Cotchery when they could have re-signed Sanders for cheap money. That tells you something. The Pats signed LaFell rather than pursuing Sanders again.

SHHHHHHHHHHHUSH! Lets embrace the media's ball washing of the Denver Broncos, rather than get in an uproar about it. Lets get back to our "underdog" character. Its a role that best fits our blue collar New England roots.

Personally I hope the mediots go to sleep on the Pats. I relish the coming stories that predict the Pats demise and the rise of the Jets, Bills, and Dolphins. I'd rather lie in the weeds and silently let fester these stories that portend our team's decline. THEN when the time is right, in true Rodney Harrison style, play the "disrespect" card once again, while we slap down these impertinent monkeys, and spit in the media's face. :D

The media portrayal of DEN being a clear cut AFC favorite is not right. The truth is that there are at least 3-4 teams such as NE, IND, and one of KC, BAL, CIN that will be battling it out right there with them.

To take it one step further, it's been 40 yrs since the SB loser returned, hasn't it?

Can not stand beat writers that are homers.

I actually disagree, well about our beat writers at least. I wish Boston more of them.

Maybe just one Patriot homer..

Someone that instead of saying "The Patriot's did not deserve that win" will say "The Patriots STOLE that win with heart, grit and determination".

Is that so much to ask? A little sugar in my morning cup of criticalness.

We need a Patriot homer to fight the rising odds...

We need a Patriot homer to fight the rising odds, someone to fight all the contentious elitists.

I consider Mike Reiss as an unbiased homer that will call out the team when needed too.

Barring any major injuries, I guarantee Indy gonna be more of a threat for us than Denver.

With the way Denver got blown out in the SB, players they lost in FA, and the way they went all in FA, they just seem like a desperate team that wants to win now. Im gonna laugh when it blows up in their face.

I still think the Broncos have a lot of question marks which includes their QB. Manning despite having a historic year showed serious signs of decline in arm strength. I still think there is a tipping point where his other skills won't over come the decline in his arm strength. And not having Decker and his size hurts that too.

Favre had career year in his second to last season and came crashing down the next. Kurt Warner won the league MVP in his second to last season and was mediocre the next season. It is a really possibility that Manning takes a huge step back this year considering his age and neck surgeries.

The Broncos are a favorite in the AFC and most likely the front runner along with the Pats, but with their schedule and question marks I wouldn't be shocked if they went 10-6 this season. Or even worse if Manning hits the age/injury wall.

It's impossible to know if Manning's decline will be significant this year, but it will come. 2014 is also the year when his huge salary cap hit ($17.5M) takes its biggest toll. The Broncos shed a lot of production and leadership this offseason that contributed to last year's run to the Super Bowl. That, plus the tougher schedule, do not bode well for Denver.

Why do people get upset because in preseason the talking heads dont believe that NE can make it to the Super Bowl this year? Vegas always has NE in conversation to win it. 2014 Super Bowl betting odds have Broncos tied with Patriots

Quite frankly, this team still has big question marks at WR, OL and TE heading into 2014. Is Wilfork going to be the same because the NE run D was gashed without him and finding a good NT isnt easy.

To me, there is still alot of work to do fixing the Patriots before this team can beat a Seattle or SF in the post season.

Mike Reiss is hardly a homer. He is certainly not a bag man for the team.

In my opinion he is the epitome of what an objective beat writer should be like.

Reiss talks about his objectivity to Felger at a little before the 18 minute mark. I believe him. It's clear to me that Reiss keeps his ego in check.

Felger is incapable of doing the same, as are many of the Boston commentators.

I thought the Richardson trade was a terrible deal for INDY.

Hes a bust. Many team are discovering that Bama players come with high miles out of college.

Ahh.. but there's a lot less work to do before we are capable of beating the BRONCOS.

And Belichick uses just this kind of a "snub" as bulletin board material to motivate his Players.

Bulletin board provides a motivational tack - AFC East blog - ESPN

If it's good enough for the Player's to get worked up over, how can us fans be any better? ;)

Some team steps up every year, seemingly out of nowhere.

Just going by last year. The Pats got smacked by injury horribly last year - at all the key positions, plus they were breaking in an entirely new receiving corps. They got much better imply through rest and experience, not to mention Revis and Browner.

Hard to say how things will play out year to year, but it's hard to imagine that Denver doesn't have a harder schedule than New England this year. And last year, Denver had a cupcake schedule.

Very possible that the AFCCG goes through New England this year.

And don't count out Indy. And don't be surprised if one or two teams step up to challenge big time. Happens every year.

I completely agree about those ? marks adding DT health and LB depth. It's really difficult to field a complete team. Seattle and maybe SF seem ahead of the pack with Denver next. Pats in the next group along with GB, et al.

In looking at the splits for these four QBs, if Manning is considered horrible, how do you rate Brady, Brees, and Rodgers?

The Bills say hi, and then walk off in shame.

I agree on Noodle armed forehead man. We may see him show up a bit less el dante than last year.

Brady and Brees had legitimate excuses.

Brady's problems had to do with inexperience and injuries with his receivers. In the stretch when Gronk was healthy and Dobson was hitting his stride, he was pretty much flawless. If he had Gronk, Edelman and Dobson were healthy all year, and he didn't have to rely so much on rookies early in the season and put up those numbers, I would agree you have a point.

Brees basically had Jimmy Graham and not much else at receiver. Colston is still decent, but not the receiver he once was. Kenny Still showed some potential at times, but disappeared for stretches of games. And the rest of the WRs were mediocre.

On the other hand, Manning was loaded with weapons that were capable of attacking defenses at all levels of the fied. Demariyus Thomas is capable of being one of the better deep threats in the league, but rarely was used that way. Yes, he lost Welker for a stretch, but he was the fourth option of that offense even before he went down.

As for Rogers, was having an inconsistent year to begin with (some games he was otherworldly and others he just downright sucked) and missed nearly half the season. And his receiving corp wasn't nearly as good as Manning's.

If Brady, Brees, and Rodgers all had the two Thomases, Eric Decker, and Welker as their primary receiver and put up those numbers, the I would say you had a valid point. But name the Packer receiver who would have started on the Broncos last year other than Jordy Nelson. Other than maybe Edelman and Gronk (who only played six games), name the Patriot receiver who would have started on the Broncos last year. Other than Graham, name the Saints' receiver who would have started on the Broncos last year. You can't.

The Broncos had arguably the most talented receiving corp in the NFL last year. The Pats, Saints, and Packers all arguably had below average receiving corps last year when you factor in injuries.

Manning's problems throwing down field appeared to be primarily the fact that his balls were ducks. Brady's, Brees', and Rodgers' seemed to have a lot to do with issues with the receivers whether it was talent or getting on the same page or whatever.

Depending on what they do about their QB situations some other teams could surprise and jump into the mix. Take Houston for example, if they were to draft Clowney and say trade for Mallett or draft a solid QB in the second round and that QB played well that team would be in the mix in my opinion. Watt and Clowney, with a number of other good defensive players, and then on offense you have to very good outside receivers and if Foster is healthy he is a top NFL RB.
