Is 07 Maroney-Morris as good as 06 Dillon-Maroney?

I don't see the genious in having picked Maroney over Addai. In any case, I think we made a fine pick in a position of need.

If understand the comments here, the running will end being as good because the passing game will allow it do be so. The running game itself is worse, but will look better. And Evans is not much of a replacement for the TD machine, but we will do with what we have, or not.

I am not suggesting that we should hav paid Dillon $6M to play this year. However, I am suggesting that it would be reasonable to replace him on the squad. I want to see even or upgrades on all units. So, far, I think that 2007 Maroney-Morris projects to being not as strong as 2006 Dillon-Maroney.

Addai/Maroney comparisons are unfair, at best, to Maroney.

Just look at the supporting cast Addai gets to play with in Indy - the sheer potential of that passing attack is what opens up such huge holes for Addai to plough through.

Now look at what the Patriots had to offer.

Maroney, like Addai, showed a good ability to fight through and evade tackles - only in Maroney's case his injury impacted his ability to keep doing it in the latter part of the season (the only part alot of people seem able to recall).

Guys, if the Pats drafted Maroney with the intention of making him a featured back - and they did - don't you think they've thought a bit about durability?

He did tear rib cartilidge this season. This does not mean he will every season. Of course, the front office can be wrong. But it's customary to gather evidence prior to drawing conclusions.

We can worry all we want. It's the offseason, what the heck, nothing else to do... but our gameplan is set for the upcoming year: Maroney is the featured back. Dillon, if he's back (and I don't see why he would be,) will be in a diminished role. If Maroney goes down (unless Dillon's back, and I don't see why he would be,) it's Sammy Morris. And Faulk will be Faulk.

The running game is fine, gentlemen. Relax.

pouring some more kool-aid

^--- I want what he's having.

Guilty as charged. Alcohol + Kool-aid you say? Hmm..:eat1: Nice find, BTW.

As a caveat, If you happen to ever find this, I meant to relate Maroney not to the all-time backs, but to Pats backs. I didn't intend to say Maroney was akin to Sanders, but in comparison to Smith, Dillon, etc., which I don't feel is so ridiculous in comparison.

I stand by the rest of me drunken rampage. Take this entreaty as you will...

PS: At the least, consider this a bump, as it is a question I imagine will re-emerge.

Maybe it should be the running game will be fine, gentlemen...relax....
I DO think they will look for a power back at some point..Mgtch is correct..on paper Dillon-Maroney is a lot fiercer than Maroney-Morris...I really think Dillon's style of pounding the line HELPED softened them up a bit..Maroney is more Mr Outside..how many big gains did he have more through the line?? How many losses and times stuffed did he have on those?
Different type runners..it worked out so well..Morris is good and MORE versatile than Dillon...and I LOVE that..but he's not in the power running class with Dillon at all..they will do something...so I think it is time to relax..AND there's also the whole point of stretching the field..so THAT should change the offensive dynamics some..

I too look forward to discussing this topic every time the running game doesn't pile up yardage next year.

FTR I feel like you do, Maroney will do well, and Morris isn't a bad backup. But I hope they don't go with 4 running backs this year instead of 5. We always seem to run out...

A great lead-off question
... and what a mahvelous thread yez turned it into with responses
that pre-empt every single thought i was going to contribute!

But whenever it's first-and-goal inside the five
won't you be wishing that even
Corey The Elder was lining up at tailback?

I would have thought they'd make a run at TJ Duckett if they were that concerned about a separate and distinct power running game.

I may be wrong, but I see them sinking Maroney into the "every down back" category (of course, with Faulk on board, it needn't be every down.)
