Broncos sign Aqib Talib

He would make a very good safety in our scheme, he makes plays on the football and is exceptional at forcing fumbles.

Ok I'll take that back lol.

Good thinking.

Theres no need to state that anyone who didnt like Talib's contract is all due to "sour grapes"

he got overpaid considering what he has done the past two years...If we are talking about the player who played up through the saints game. he is well deserving of that contract.

but he injured his hip(again) and never looked the same. Then was on the sideline in the AFC-championship(again). he's not a reliable player.

and i'm one person who if you read my posts thinks the pats arent doing enough to give brady the best team.

Yeah, all the people who are slamming the other fans who think that Talib was grossly overpaid want to pretend he never gets injured. Talib is a type a guy you don't give top dollar to because, even though he is elite when healthy, he is constantly injured.

That hip was good enough that most Patsfans.com posters were in love with the idea of re-signing him yesterday. I wonder what happened in the last 24 hours that made that hip such a huge problem...

This is a really simple question: would YOU have signed Talib for 6/57, 28 guaranteed?

So was Gronk's deal a bad idea?

I do think Talib was overpaid though.

Belichick will pay for special players. There is a decent chance the Pats sign him. I wouldn't bet money, but Revis is one of those once or twice in a generation players. Belichick has paid for that (see Wilfork and Mankins). A guy like Revis never usually hits the open market. So this is uncharted territory.

This isn't paying big bucks for a typical best player in free agency who will set the market at his position even though he isn't really in the top five in terms of talent. Revis arguably the best CB in NFL history. I think Belichick would pay for that especially since his asking price won't be exponentially more than what Talib or Vontae Davis got.

There is literally not a snowball's chance in hell that Belichick is going to give Revis $16M. The only chance Revis has of coming here is if he substantially lowers his demands and that's not going to happen since teams like Oakland would gladly give him the contract he's looking for and have the cap space to do so. The Patriots will do what they always do, which is look for the bargains. It will either pay off and the team will take a step forward or it will backfire and the team will take a step back.

The broncos were embarrassed a week latter than the patriots. There is only one super bowl champion at the end of the season and it wasn't the donkies.

And the Broncos have made bold moves in an effort to get to the next level, while the Patriots have seen the player that many here considered the team's most important defender last year, even before the injuries to Wilfork and company. This wasn't just the Patriots not making big moves. This was the Patriots failing to keep their own, and losing a quality player to the biggest conference opponent for the second year in a row.

It's one thing to take a wait and see approach, while honestly breaking down what happened yesterday. It's another to be railing against people who are pissed off about yesterday after 9 years of coming up short and some bad FA periods in recent years.

We all wanted Talib but at the very start of this we didn't want him at that rate. Rest of the country thinks Talib's numbers are ridiculous.

Should the Patriots have been willing to pony up the $57 million over six years ($26M guaranteed) that the Broncos gave Aqib Talib? - Sportsnation - ESPN

Best part of that? The only state where the majority voted Yes was North Dakota, and it was one vote... I'm just picturing some angry, displaced Patriots fan shaking his fist at the computer and raging by himself in a snow covered log cabin.

Disclaimer: I've never been to North Dakota.

Nah those of us who express disappointment are spoiled for not being satisfied by two straight AFCCG losses. That's the impression I am getting.

Gronk was signed after not missing a game for his first two seasons and setting the tight end receiving record. Not apples to apples, though I in hindsight I do place them in similar categories. In hindsight, mind you.

I don't know, because I don't know the alternative plans the Patriots had, and I don't have all the details of the contract. I do know that, at first blush, the contract is in line with what the other top CBs got, and that's a fair contract for Talib. Talib was a top 4 corner in this draft. Talib's getting paid like a top 4 corner in this draft.

Gronk's deal doesn't really kick in until after this season. He really hasn't seen much of his new money. So speak to me in a year if and when the Pats pick up his $10 million guarantee in 2015.

Plus, Gronk and Talib are different. Talib has had chronic hip problems over the last few years. That could be an issue that will plague him the rest of his career. Gronk has had multiple injuries, but nothing that could be something that will plague him the rest of his career.

And Gronk went two years and ten games without missing a single game. Talib has missed at least one game every season.

If he hits the open market, he probably won't get $16 million a year.

Oakland is reportedly out of the Revis market.

The Broncos are in boom or bust territory. If they don't win the Super Bowl this year or maybe next year if Manning and Welker can stay on and play well for two years, they bet the farm for nothing. If Talib is the Talib that played for the Pats in 2012 and not the first six games of 2013, they downgraded the position from DRC last year.

Stepping up and spending big bucks in free agency has yet to produce a Super Bowl winner in over a decade.

You should have stopped there.

Didn't the #1 ranked CB by CBS Alterraun Verner sign a 4/$26.5 million with 14 Million guaranteed? I wouldn't say that's in line with what Talib got.

I don't like losing Talib either but he isn't worth 9.5 million a year. The Broncos have a different philosophy than the Pats. They are mortgaging their future to win now. This is a great philosophy if all of your players stay healthy throughout the season. When the window closes on the Broncos their salary cap is going to be a mess.
