College Football Star Michael Sam Says He Is Gay; May Become First Publicly G...

Yet it's okay for Christians or Catholics to bash gays? Way to go with that double-standard.

Which Christians were bashing gays? I saw a whole bunch of posters say homosexual acts are sinful yet they could still befriend a gay person.

I don't think they were bashing the gays, but stating what the bible says in reference to them. Either way two wrongs don't make a right. Also many of the posters in this thread who are bashing Catholics, Christians, and the bible have done so in other threads. Also like SB39 posted you are criticizing Christians, Catholics, etc for the their supposed bigotry and you all fire back with some of your own bigotry.

You know what, you're right. They weren't bashing the gays, they were condemning them to hell. So that's actually worse.

That's for God to decide.

I will say this: God is Love.

Here's a good quote from John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life

Should I quote passages from the Bible where it says that homosexuals are basically going to hell, or at least will not inherit the kingdom of heaven? Do you deny such quotes are in there?

Either you believe what the Bible says or not...

I don't agree. Anyways lets move on from who did worse on either side. My point is, if you are going to stand up for whatever it is that you believe in than you can do so by coming up with a good argument in support of your cause. You don't need to put down the other side to bolster your argument.

Example Martin Luther King fought long and hard for Civil Rights in this country. However, he did not put down whites in order to bolster his argument for why African American should have the same rights as whites.

I don't deny those verses. But I don't know who's going to hell either. Are these homosexuals sincerely trying to break the habits of homosexuality? Or do these homosexuals mock God and turn away from him?

This thread is very saddening. The reason for that has nothing to do with the thread topic. But with those posters who feels it is okay to bash Christians, Catholics, the Bible etc. It's a shame really, but I wasn't surprised after seeing which posters were doing it .

Disagreeing with someones views is not bashing them.
Otherwise this thread is full of gay bashing.

Exactly Boogs. Has anyone told you that you're awesome? Right on point as usual. Anyways I am thinking about putting Uncle Meat on ignore.

Being gay is not a habit, not something to be ashamed of, and I'm pretty sure they don't have sex with each other in order to mock your God.

If that's what God's will is, who am I to argue?

If God doesn't want you to entertain opposing viewpoints, then there ya go, partner. I see you don't like to be challenged about much. That's just part of the plan.

Not a very good trait, though.

Love thy neighbor...but only if he agrees with me. Right-o!

People have the right to call homosexuality sinful if it is their belief (free country, free opinions) but I'm sorry. To say their lifestyle is a sin is bashing gays.

You have no idea how condescending you are being, but God does.

Certain "Christians" (or whatever) pretty much relate that certain people are condemned to Hell about something that hurts nobody, and then turn around with much chagrin when people call them on it...they feel "bashed" themselves. Go figure.

They aren't bashing gays either, God is or something. Also, God is love, yet He will send a man to the pit of eternal hell-fire for loving another man.

Very incomprehensible. I'd better change my act too, or I'm next.

I'll have to consult the plan about that.

Actually it was a reply....you're taking one scripture out of context, looking at it from a 21st century perspective, and seeing it literally. It's not a history book. It's designed to convey a theological truth.

All I asked was for you to address it. It's the most cited biblical scripture against homosexuality. So, how did I take it out of context? Provide the context.

Saying that homosexuality is something people are "born with" opens up a very dangerous can o' worms.

Are all sexual tastes something we are "born with" or just the politically correct ones? For example, is someone "born" a pedophile?

Pedophiles are on power trips. Big difference here. Often pedophiles don't even discriminate between sexes. They like children. They are not bisexual.

The reason there is bashing is because honest questions about the interpretation of the Bible are totally ignored. We've asked RI multiple times to give us his reading on Lot and the admonition against homosexuality, but he refuses, leading us to conclude that people who quote the Bible here do it selectively and dishonestly. Are you really defending that?

Not to mention the fact that in professing to speak for Christians many here are totally dismissing other Christians who think differently, as though there are "real" Christians and fake Christians, which is an insult to, for instance, many Episcopalians.

You won't get a straight answer because when it supports their cause the Bible quoters will take a quote word for word and call it proof but when it does not, it is out of context and you can't take it literally.

My personal views here are that it is not easy for a young person to be gay. ALL young people struggle with identity, confidence, awkwardness and self doubt. I just think it is too bad that there are so many people who have decided they want to make these people have an even harder time dealing with those issues by telling them that they think God disapproves of them.
I am not terribly religious but I belief that God's goal is that people are treated fairly and with compassion. Sometimes it feels to me like the people who use religion to tell people what is wrong with them and make them feel bad about themselves are the ones that are going against what God would want, which would be to support all people and not use God as a reason to shame people into doing what they believe.
If God doesn't want people to be gay, I'm pretty sure he would have found a better way to deal with it than to have someone who doesn't understand what they are going through tell them they are wrong, vial and worthless.

What's the difference?

Some of these guys know damn well that they believe that "unrepentant" gay people are going to Hell, but they won't come out and say it. They "leave that up to God" in a complete cop-out. Dunno why they would even partake in a discussion if they are going to deflect its whole purpose when it comes down to it like that. They aren't being humble...they are copping-out.

Looking for the logic will leave you flustered, because it's not there. They want to be good people and obey the Bible at the same time, but there is a conflict in this case...so just lay it off on God and sleep soundly.

I grew up reading the Bible, and also took a Bible class in college, and this passage is one of the most stark WTFs in the entire book.

There is practically no way around the story of what Lot does to his girls.

I know what you're saying, but... I'm gonna keep asking for an explanation.

I'd also love to hear the explanation for his daughters getting him drunk and sleeping with him so they could have inbred children with him.

So I guess the Bible is telling us that there are gay people and we should offer them our virgin daughters, but that will only make them mad because they don't want that, but in the end your daughter will get you drunk and bang you.

By the way, the Bible doesn't say there is anything wrong with the incest, just that the daughters wanted to keep his seed alive.

Hey guys, people in the Bible sinned too. Lot, Lot's daughters, Moses, King David, Paul etc. Jesus was the only one without sin.
