Time to Get Brady Weapons

What if Bill convinces Tony Gonzalez to sign for one year?
Seems doable. Gronk and Gonzealez for one year alone, along with the team as it so could be bad news for the rest of the nfl

Then if they actually make a big trade for Fitz, its like "welcome back nfl scoring record"

I honestly like our weapons for the most part. I just want a big bodied guy besides Gronk that can consistently catch a tightly contested slant pass for example. Someone a little thicker and or faster than Dobson but in that height range. Hakeem Nicks or someone similar would be perfect. Draft wise I see a few like Allen Robinson, Jordan Matthews, and Jace Amaro. I'm not asking for the next Calvin, but just one guy similar to the guys I listed above would really help on those short 3rd&5.

Buckley: Tom Brady needs weapons... again | Boston Herald

Thought this was a good write up by Buckley.

Brady was born on Aug. 3, 1977. For bookkeeping purposes, that’s a convenient DOB for a pro football player. It means a fresh new birthday for each new season, and, for Brady, it means he will be 37 years old when the Patriots open the 2014 season.

No more of this “Tom’s getting up there” nonsense. He is already a card-carrying resident of Up There.

He is a quarterback with but a few precious seasons left, and with no guarantees that any of those seasons will match the Brady of old . . . or, for the purposes of this discussion, the Brady of young.

This is why the Patriots need to push all the chips to the middle of the table and bet the house on Tom Brady. And betting the house on Tom Brady means asking him exactly what and who he needs, and then going out and getting it.

Jordan Matthews would be a nice selection, but I highly doubt they are able to draft him without a trade up, which makes it unlikely to happen. Of course, that could change over the course of the combine and his pro day. Whatever happens, this team needs to get some weapons in the receiving corps. Brady was dealt a pathetic hand by the front office for a guy his age that has given the team three Super Bowl victories and five appearances. If only as a contingency plan, he does need some help at WR and TE.

fitzgerald is a dream. We won't be getting him

Brady is 37 years old

We wont get much more cracks at this

Thank you. You people are insane if you think the cast of wideouts (plus Brady's age) is do-able. We overachieved. Its time to pull an 07 and load up on weapons for Brady's end of days. We fire everything we have for the next 3 years and hopefully get 1.

I don't know what they're going to do.

I am concerned, however, that given Brady's age and the complexity of our offense, finding the answer in the draft may now be a day late/dollar short scenario.

I hope they can make a deal somewhere. I have my doubts they will.

Love,
-Me-

With our luck, Larry Fitz breaks a leg the moment he lands foot in NE.

I'd rather have Graham

Indeed i agree, not kind of team you want a soon to be 37 year old to have. I wonder what Manning would look like if he didn't have all these weapons.

Allen Robinson would be perfect, already knows our offense pretty well (Penn State used our offense), would be a perfect fit, that's why it won't happen, lol. Hakeem Nicks, no thanks, 10 million dollar body, $1.50 brain. They said on the local news in NY, the Giants won't resign him because he missed a ton of team meetings, dropped a bunch of passes, and stopped being that stud outside receiver.

A lot of people were upset with our lack of pass rush, were putting out APB's for Chandler Jones, etc. But people forget, When we had Wilfork and Kelly, that was opening things up for Chandler Jones and Ninkovich. I would use our whole draft on Offense, UNLESS a stud pass rusher falls into our laps. Let's see if Jones, Villano, Chris Jones, Buchanon can all progress with another year under their belts, and let's see what this Armstead guy brings to our team.. Our secondary if they can stay healthy is above average.

On Offense, we need another stud receiving TE (a lot of people have us taking Austin Seferian-Jenkins, I'd love that or Jace Amaro), another outside WR (If we can get Kelvin Benjamin I'd be thrilled).

I totally agree on Allen Robinson.

As for the stud pass rusher, it's Aaron Donald! There's nothing like getting pressure right up the gut, people are discounting him because he's smaller than they think he should be, which is exactly what will allow us to have a potential shot at him.

Again this Fitzgerald talk? It's not gonna happen.

When he had the money we didn't make a splash in the FA, hard to think BB will do some exciting deal now, with no f...ing money.

And it's not the solution either, throw big money in one guy, our offense needs improvement as a group.

The only guy I would be ok to make an extra effort, clean some cap space and go after is Jimmy Graham. There is no question mark there, Graham and Gronk would do that to DC's every sunday.

Good segment today on everyone's favorite four letter network with Tim Hasselbeck who basically said that most people who make these comments about the Pats not getting Brady weapons are missing the big picture of what happened last offseason. With the expectation of Hernandez and Gronk being in the line up, they would have been just as difficult of a team to stop as a team that had top flight WR's due to the mismatches that duo would have posed. Combine those 2 with what you could have gotten out of Edelman, Vereen, Amendola + 1 rookie WR and the Pats are in a different discussion than today. Also, don't forget they were close on getting E. Sanders from Pittsburgh. So this whole notion that they don't spend the $$ or go after players is a bit overblown. Provided nobody from the current group of players goes off and kills people this offseason or gets arrested, we'll see what they do to address their needs at the WR/TE positions.

It is getting ridiculous.

I understand the following
  • Hernandez was arrested
  • Gronkowski was injured

But, you cannot ask a QB who is at the end of his career to continue to will this team to miracle comeback after miracle comeback. Its time to break the bank and trade for Fitzgerald or someone of that ilk.

Next year's targets should be

  • Larry Fitz/A Legit Deep Threat
  • Dobson
  • Edelman
  • Amendola
  • Gronkowski (for as long as he can give us)

Those are weapons. We need them to beat teams like Denver. With a healthy defense, we would roll teams.

So basically you think we need one more receiver. I don't think anyone would disagree with that, bit Fitzgerald? Seriously? Whenever I see a post like this, I can't help but think that the poster has absolutely no idea how the salary cap works.

As good as a guy like Fitzgerald is, if you offered the Cardinals a chance to tear up his contract with no cap ramifications, they would do it in a heartbeat (same with Megatron, probably). When you pay a receiver that kind of money, you've blown pretty much your entire receivers budget at the outset.

This is why the Lions are stuck trying to play guys like Nate Burleson, Ryan Broyles, and Kris Durham as their WR2. Arizona avoided that by hitting on a draft pick (Michael Floyd), or else they would be in the same position.

Which is what the Pats have to do. They have to nail a WR draft pick. If they do that, they'll have an upper-echelon weapon in the receiving game available at a reasonable cost for most of whatever time Brady has left. Belichick clearly realizes this, which is why he invested so much draft capital at WR last year.

If we want to see a dramatic talent upgrade at WR, it's going to come in the form of improvement from the guys who are already here, a draft pick, or a middle-tier FA. Anyone who hasn't accepted that reality is going to be disappointed.

The Pats have gone extremely heavy on defense in the last couple of drafts, which is why it's unfortunate that there are still such glaring holes at DT, S, and CB (assuming Talib leaves). An offense-heavy draft is probably overdue.
