Curran: Pats' reliance on the run may not be a good thing

Not gonna lie to you, if we fall 24-0 again against the broncos we're gonna end up like San Diego. The best thing we have now is the run game,it doesn't matter if they want brady to beat them, i say Blount them. The good news is we're not playing the Seahawks or the niners, a good dose of Blount if a great way to keep Manning on the sideline. If it ain't broke don't fix it,also 30 plus carry will open plenty of passing lane for big play.

Yes and no. If your strength is running the football because that is your strength and the best way for your passing game - which is limited can be most successful, and keep Manning off the field, then you run the ball.

Right but over the years BB has always designed a gameplan to attack the other opponents weaknesses and take away their strengths no matter what they are.

Last night it was Indy's front 7. In Denver it is their 29th ranked pass defense. I expect that will the matchup that gets exploited..

You truly underestimate just how great the edelman//amendola combo can be at 100%.

And those small receivers against those aggressive Miami corners combined for 23 catches and 270 yards

As scrappy and smart as those two were/are, we went 1 for 4 in the red zone that day and it was a major factor in the loss. And that 1 conversion was due to a miracle one handed catch from Hooman who rarely gets separation.

Every time I see something about Curran I think how Quick Slants is the football version of Barney the Purple Dinosaur.

It might not be a good thing wow way to commit Curran… I don’t think we have a choice but to rely on the running game we have Blount and Ridley who are great inside runner and Vereen who an excellent all-purpose back so I would rather rely on that than our 1 reliable wide receiver in Julian Edelman and a bunch of inconsistent receivers.

That's pretty much exactly what Curran is saying.

Unrelated but LOL @ Shank trolling on twitter last night when the Colts got close. "Should Pats fans be worried?"

Yes but in those past situations the Pats had the weapons to shift gears a bit more gracefully than now.

DEN's pass D isn't as bad as people think. It's 17th in passer rating vs, 8th in passes defensed, 6th in comp % vs and middle of the road in YPC.

Yeah well given that the circumstances it's a good thing. We won 3 SBs with a heavy reliance on the running game and smart efficient passing.

I don't see the negative at the end of the day we have Tom Brady and if we cannot get the running game going I have complete confidence that Brady can will band together with Edelman and the inconsistent receivers and make plays in the passing game.

Von Miller being out changes the dynamic of that defense a lot.

Agreed. Whats interesting about the numbers with Miller in the lineup is that at least statistically the run defense got worse and the pass defense got better.

all I can say is. watch the dolphins game. they have a better defense than the bronco's imo and brady moved the ball at will against them throwing to collie, amendola and edelman basically every play.

where they came up short was the redzone because they didnt establish the run.

brady can dink and dunk all his way up and down the field, but we need to punch it in with ridley/blount.

this would be a nice game for Dobson if he can play

Q:What's the difference between scoring 43 points by passing or 43 points by rushing?

A: Nothing.

The Patriots O vs the Broncos D is set with match ups that favor the Patriots. With the emergence of Jamie Collins, I have faith he can match up with Julius Thomas. That leaves Talib for D.Thomas, Arrington for Welker, Dennard for Decker and Ryan for Caldwell.

Peyton is going to turn the ball over. It's simply a matter of making sure the Patriots don't.

Reading this article made me feel vicariously embarrassed for Curran. Jesus. "Their running game worked better than their passing game might have, ergo it's bad that they ran the ball" is not an argument. What the hell hahaha I am smiling at my phone just thinking about the sort of tortured toddler logic he must have had to employ in order to convince himself of this

The Patriots lack Wes Welker and they actually have a really solid RB corps, which dropped 200+ rushing yards on the Colts, and this makes me mad. I said it makes me mad!! To think that they lack the personnel to throw 50 times in a game but still score 43 points. Randy Moss must be rolling in his grave Christ they are doing things on offense that they didn't previously do and it makes me mad all right I'm frustrated

I am sure BB will have a good gameplan and don't be surprised if someone obscure comes up big in this game.

Pats need to use their running game to set up the pass. Contribution from Dobson or Kenbrell would be nice, but they need to get Vereen going. A dynamic Vereen to go with our three smurfs and the running game will be plenty of offense.

The Seahawks rely on the run and Wilson hasnt played well so couldn't you say the exact same thing about them.

BB may use hooman and mulligan seeing they won't be covered that tight.

Or they could switch it up and have brady throw it 40 times and 4 tds...If the broncos base their gameplan on stopping blount first they would be screwed.
