Time to mute your TV

For the playoffs, are there no better announcers or does CBS just not have enough people or is their producer a patriot hater?

(had to control myself and not call him DearDork)

I never thought i'd have to hear this buffoon of a blowhard again. Damn it.

It's not just us. My kids all moaned when they heard Dierdork's name. Another reason I feel lucky I will be there in person. If the Pats win I will only have to tolerate him on the replay...

Anybody but Mayock.

In what can only be described as a "Christmas Miracle", CBS announced that Saturday night is Dierdorf's last game as an announcer, they said so during the Cincy game yesterday. Gumbel is OK, but Dierdorf is painful to listen to and yes, I usually end up muting the sound.

I'll switch the broadcast audio on gamepass, this dierdorf is a douche

Westwood One radio will be Ian Eagle, Trent Green, and Tony Boselli. I'll give them a shot, unless we have people over... and then I'll just drink more. LOL

Ian Eagle is my favorite. Love his play by play.

looks like i'm listening to the game in spanish...

i don't even speak spanish.

Eagle is a pro's pro. Trent Green sometimes gets tongue tied. Boselli is ok.

He's a good announcer (doesn't root for one team over the other), but for some reason I am annoyed with the way he pronounces his name...

I said this in a thread on Sunday:

How fitting would it be if the Pats win that Dumbledork's last game he is calling in his career will be a win from the team he hates the most?

i love when Pats play under NFL on CBS coverage expecially Nantz and Simms that next week end i think will be covering Den-Sd

i love a lot the music NFL FIRST ON THE FIELD...and when they say: ''you're watching the Nfl on Cbs !'' and then start the music-jingle again

great !!!

Yes, "eye-an" Eagle. I just enjoy his ability to make a play sound exciting versus Jim Nantz and Al Michaels who don't really adjust their voice much.

Eyein Eagle's partner is horrible, I forgot who it is.

I have no problem with Dierdorf whatsoever.

I am sure it is kind of a sad day for him as it just another example of father time weighing you down. It sucks that time is a finite resource...

I wish him nothing but the best.

The other two will be out in Denver on their knees for three hours over top of Manning...

I actually like Mayock, at least he follows what's going on in real time.

This reportedly is the Dork's last broadcast as he enters retirement.

That would be most excellent, but if i wanted some sound that was in-sync with the TV i have to listen to Dierdouch rave about how great A Luck and the Colts are. While at the same time playing down anything the Pats did.

I was hoping Boomer Esiason would be covering the Pats game on radio, but then I realized he can't, with his CBS responsibilities.

Eagle's analyst is Dan Fouts.

I pretty much assumed that CBS would send Gumbel and Dierdorf to call the Patriots' game. All season long CBS has used Peyton Manning as their primary tool to hype and promote their broadcasts, and along with it that means sending their top broadcast team (Nantz and Simms) to cover those games. We knew Dierdorf was in his final year, so it was highly unlikely that they would drop him and Gumbel to number three (i.e., no playoff game) now when they hadn't done that all season long.

For what it's worth, this is how CBS announced their broadcasting crews in a press release before the season began. Although they did not say it was their ranking of the teams, implicitly that's exactly what it was. Their top crew gets their biggest game with the largest audience each week, the second crew gets the second biggest game, etc.

  • Jim Nantz, Phil Simms
  • Greg Gumbel, Dan Dierdorf
  • Ian Eagle, Dan Fouts
  • Marv Albert, Rich Gannon
  • Kevin Harlan, Solomon Wilcots
  • Bill Macatee, Steve Tasker
  • Spero Dedes, Steve Beuerlein

I would assume that next year Gumbel remains the play-by-play announcer for CBS' number two crew, but who will be his sidekick? CBS could take one of their in-studio guys such as Boomer Esiason to take over Dierdorf's spot; finding another in-studio analyst shouldn't be that big a deal.

Another option would be to gave Fouts work with Gumbel, but I don't think they want to mess with breaking up broadcasting teams.

A third possibility would be to make Eagle and Fouts their number two team, but that somehow seems very unfair to Gumbel; first he had to put up with working with Dierdorf for years, and then when Dierdorf finally leaves he gets a demotion.
