Samuels = PISSED!!!

Branch wasn't tagged. He wanted the last year of his contract ripped up.

The thread title implies a certainty, as in Asante Samuel has certainly STATED that he is pissed! Not some mere conjecture that perhaps he might be unhappy with the way free agency has unfolded.

Yeah I know, but he said that he would be back in camp if the Pats promised not to tag him next year. He was really to end the hold out just to avoid the tag, so I just hope Asante doesn't feel the same way.

Branch is a little puke.

Sorry, what were we talking about? :p

I dunno Branch didn't seem to take to kindly to the idea of being tagged.

IMO that was just a BS ploy to salvage his reputation. It honestly didn't make a whole lot of sense considering the Pats were willing to give a 3 year extension at market rate. They simply didn't want to rip up his final contract year, setting a precedence in the process. I think if he had actually countered offered with a 4 year extension worth 6-7 mil and accepted a moderate bump in pay for the 2006 season, the Pats would have faxed him the contract. But instead he threw the "don't tag me" thing out there to save face when it appeared that he was stuck coming back to NE or holding out. Then the Jets jumped in and the rest is history.

IMO.

Yeah there's a reason for the thread, to ask a question. I I know that probably went right over your head. Make sure to check my posts for spelling. Did you get mollested by your grammar teacher or something.

Samuels=pissed!!!

Is that a question? <(hint that is a question.)

The THREAD states the question. Jeez do I have to use pictures to explain it???

Did Digger get banned and if so are you taking over his threat title patrol duties?

I think he is annoyed by it but if you look at this way he is guaranteed 7.? million this season without doing anything other than signing his name. If he performs to a similar level next year he will be a FA again and either the Pats will have drafted his replacement and let him go or tag him again. Guaranting him another 8-9 mil, meaning he will either get the big FA contract (that he wanted this year) or at a minimum he is guaranteed himself at least 18 mil over two seasons - which will match or come close to matching the money guaranteed to the "biggest" FA's from this year and next.

He shouldn't be upset by this in the least. He should get annoyed if it happens 3 years in a row for a multitude of reasons, but not for a year or two.

Or he destroys his knee in the first pre-season game and never plays again. If I were a player in the league I would be angry as hell if they slapped a tag on me; it inhibits my security long term.

However, that being said, from a team/fan perspective I would be totally ok with him walking and getting that draft choice. The draft choice brings better long term value for the team. Of course this is operating under the assumption the player drafted contributes to the team, and using our franchise as a model, the Patriots find great value in the draft.

What went over YOUR head is that he asked if you had a reason for the thread, ie, a reason for asking that question. Try and keep up.

Anyway, you You could at least know the names of the players. If in doubt, ask ex-punter Ken Walters for help.

some pats fan on another board i visit, expects him to hold out haha, i doubt he will.

I'm guessing that's usually a cognitive aid in your case.

Home schooled?

If you can state the question, I guess I can question the state........

You can't possibly be serious, can you??? You are actually asking me why I am asking a question?? Why has any question been asked, I mean ever. Because an answer was desired!!!! Why does this board exist, so that people can shoot around plausible theories, ask questions they want multiple perspectives on.

You can question a statement....sorry your hippy logic is hard to follow.

Well then you should tell your player rep and then vote against it in the CBA!

Now that we have that out of the way your argument is weak!

Lets say you sign a 8 year 80 mil contract with 20 mil "guaranteed". Now the breakdown is as follows: 10 mil signing bonus, 8 mil roster bonus in year two and a two mil roster bonus in year three. Then the rest is salary, workout bonuses etc..

Do you think that player ever even sniffs that 8 mil roster bonus in year two if he blows out his knee?

Nope!

The risk is that substantial if the top 5 salary is guaranteed over a two year period.

Now from a team perspective how ****ty would it be to have a franchised CB accounting for nearly 8 mil against the cap blowing out his knee?

Why is that a lot of fans only seem to relate to the players perspective without considering the salary cap implications?

Can we just call it a draw on the battle over thread grammar?

some pats fan on another board i visit, expects him to hold out haha, i doubt he will.

There is no penalty for holding out under the franchise tag; so with the bump in salary cap, the fact that he is coming off a career year, the Jets are looking for defensive playmakers & have the money, and Deion Branch got what he wanted by holding out - there is a lot of incentive for Asante to hold out for an extension. Even if he does though, it's hardly a worst-case scenario since we are guaranteed not to lose him without compensation.

I say just trade him now and don't give him the chance to hold out. First rounder and it's a done deal, imagine having 3 first round picks. Plus I don't even consider Asante a top 5 corner, he can be replaced.

There is a huge penalty if Samuel holds out! One of the tune of 7+ million dollars. He is guaranteed that money by simply showing up everyday. Deion was forfeiting 1.8 (if I remember correctly) and only if he held out for the first 10 weeks. He could have recouped nearly 40% of his salary by showing up for week 11 and beyond. You are comparing apples to oranges in this situation.

There is a huge penalty for holding out when you are tagged: 1) you don't get paid. 2) you don't accrue a contract year. 3) you will find yourself in the same position next season; under the same teams rules and conditions.

It doesn't behouve anyone to hold out against the tag.

Look, enough OK.

You made a statement with 3 !!! that Samuel was pissed.

I don't think you know him, so I questioned why you would come to that conclusion.

Did he say he was pissed in an interview? Did he look pissed? That's what I meant.
