The 2013 Prospect Thread

I would mind Xavier Rhodes as our 1st round pick

short time ago i heard a rumor in this forum that the pats could switch back to a true 34 defense. now my questin. which college prospect could be a RDE and within reacht for the pats?

What is your philosophy for that matter? Mine is based on impact, the degree to which a player effects others, on both sides of the ball, rather than on position.

Yeah, impact is all that matters at the end of the day, but figuring out who is going to provide the most impact is the hard part. Positional value is definitely part of that equation, and the quarterback position is definitely more valuable than the corner back position. I'm sure you'd agree with that right?

Nice read on Wisconsin G/C Travis Frederick:

The Badger Herald: Behind the beard: Frederick brain of offensive line

Frederick has flown under the radar a bit and he may not come out this year, but I think he's have to be in the G/C discussion if he declares. He's huge (6'4" 338#) but seems like a natural bender and plays with good leverage. Nice versatility at both guard and center.

I hadn't realized how smart he was. Double degree in computer science and computer engineering. Described by his line coach as "extremely intelligent" and by his roomate as a "brainiac". By his teammates as the "quarterback of the offensive line". A film junkie. I can see BB and Scar loving this kid.

WalterFootball.com: 2013 NFL Draft: Guard Rankings

Travis Frederick*, G/C, Wisconsin
Height: 6-4. Weight: 338.
Projected 40 Time: 5.36.
Projected Round (2013): 2-3.

11/3/12: Frederick has moved to center, but for the NFL, he looks like a guard. The redshirt juniot doesn't have the mobility that NFL teams like their centers to have. Frederick hasn't been as dominant at center as he was at guard last season. The Badgers were struggling to run the ball early in the season, but have heated up lately going against weaker competition.

The LB personnel doesn't suit the 3-4 anymore, who would you leave out of the lineup: Hightower, Mayo or Spikes?

4-3 is the better of the 2 schemes (IMO) and the Patriots use the 4 man line in nickel situations too, so the 3-4 is pretty much pointless for this team.

BB is always adapted scheme to personnel, and he has the optimal personnel for a 2-gap 4-3 offense. Guys like Hightower-Spikes-Mayo at LB, Jones at DE. I'm sure that the Pats will always be "multiple", to use their own jargon, but I don't see them going to a primary 3-4 base.

Yes, I think the QB is the most important position but I wouldnt select specifically based on position. Suppose I have a choice between an ok QB and a magnificent corner, I just might take that corner depending on what else is available and what my team needs most.

What player do you want most of all in this years draft?
Asking because the more i'm looking around, the more i think we might have the best QB in "this" draft: Ryan Mallett

And since more and more team's could be looking, we could end up with a top top pick or 2! Right now you can talk about KC, Jax, Cowboys, Bills, Jets, Cardinals, Chargers, Raiders, Browns and Eagles etc etc - Not only will numbers of QB's worth drafting become short, and the one we have, is a 1 round talent with 2 years learning/experience and 1 of them alone, behind a HOF QB. He got preseason and NFL game time experience, pretty hard to ask for more.....

So honestly - What could he end up being worth?

I hate to say but I dont think we could fetch much more him right now, he hasn't done anything in the NFL so far and people will be weary of trading for a Pats QB because of Cassel.

Cassel was a 7 round pick - Mallett was 1 round talent but with questions. Hard to compare them really.

TFB was a 6th round pick and JaMarcus Russell was the #1 pick. Where someone was drafted really doesnt matter, what a player can potentially bring to a team does. What has Mallett done in the NFL to show he's worth trading a low round pick for?

I can have Cooper & Williams!!! (-ish)

Question. Josh Norris had Matt elam going top 10 to the Titans. Personally I think he's the best safety in the draft and could see him going first round but does anyone think he's top 10 good?

Safeties rarely go in the top ten. 5'11 safeties never go in the top ten

You know I didn't say that right? I said positional value is part of the equation not the entire thing.

Donte Whitner went #8 to Buffalo in 2006. He measured 5'10" 208#. Troy Polamalu (5'10" 207#) went #16 in 2003, and in retrospect was certainly a top 10 talent. Earl Thomas (5'10# 202#) went #14 in 2011.
