Alfonzo Dennard

Alfonzo is a rookie give the coaches time and we'll be seeing yellow whenever the ball is thrown his way.

Alfonzo Dennard should start from now on he's by far the best CB on this Teams which is not saying much. I ws giving Arrington the benefit of the doubt but he's obviously the Worst CB in Football.:snob:

Arrington looked alot better than he was last year. Most of those INT's were tipped balls he got while trailing the guy he was covering.

Dennard and McCourty should be the CB's, playing whatever scheme they played in 2010 that made McCourty look like a superstar. Start Wilson at safety along with a Gregory/Chung rotation.

That's my $0.02, but I just coach kids flag football so I am not quite an NFL quality mind.

Dennard is a rookie.....expect many mistakes,he should not be involved in blame for the loss.

Same goes for Wilson who got called on to try and preserve a lead against a very fast veteran wideout.....anyone could see that was going to be a mismatch of extreme nature.

U mean, you are the single high safety do not let anyone get behind you was too hard for him to execute.

Wilson was certainly worth that high second round pick.

Starting right cornerback Kyle Arrington was demoted after the second series, with rookie Alfonzo Dennard elevated into his role. Arrington played only seven snaps the rest of the game, all coming in the slot in sub.

Dennard was on the field for 17 of Seattles points. He is just as ineffective as any other DB on this team.

Really based on one play? Tough critic.

When your job is to play centerfield and not let someone blow by you like he did, YES. A high school safety could have done a better job.

NFL speed is different than the Big 10. He learned his lesson it happens. Brady still makes mistakes and he is the GOAT. Its when mistakes happen over and over again and there are more negatives than positives (Chung, Arrington) thats when you have issues.

The guy is a rookie. He looked good in the other games if I remember correctly. Give him a break.

You know who was on the field for 24 of Seattle's points (or at least most plays on the scoring drives)? Vince Wilfork. He sucks, cut him...

While you do make sense, the problem of:

1. McCourty still being our #1 CB

2. Dennard as a rookie in the other outside CB spot

3. Wilson the rookie who got blown past (the ONE thing he couldn't allow to happen) for the winning TD bomb

4. Chung...couldn't cover my grandma

5. Gregory...see above

All still exist.

When you don't understand his job, it is easy to overreact.

Except the fact that Wilfork wasn't part of the problem for allowing the other team(s) to score multiple time(s) in extremely critical situations.

I think that Dennard is certainly looking as though he's the lesser of the evils at RCB, so we'll have to take our chances there, but I still haven't seen all of the hype that others have seen yet. I thought he looked good in a limited, small sample size where he had 1 pass defended and 1 tackle against DEN.

I also am not convinced he's the second coming of a great CB either. The poster you are responding to actually has a point that Dennard is certainly part of the overall problem. That said, I also agree with you too, in the sense that we need to give him more time, and that he looks better than any of the other bums out there.

He played deep, to keep everything in front of him.

His one and only job was to NOT allow someone to get behind him, which he allowed. On top of that, he allowed the winning catch in the endzone. The guy blew past him and wasn't even remotely contested.

What is the complication in that?

Compared to the rest of the secondary he was rather good. I think he allowed 2 receptions - 1 for 12 yards and the TD to Edwards.

Arrington,Chung,McCourty,Wilson all gave up bombs if i recall

If your numbers are correct, and I recall one single catch on McCourty, that was a terrible day for Arrington and the safeties.
The sad thing is there is no way that QB moves that offense on us without heaving up the big play. All we had to do was take that away, and there was no chance. On the other hand, great job by them to find one single aspect of an offense to make work and come away with a W.

I also agree with this statement too.

Wilson is a rookie, we should give him a break.

But he certainly made quite a poor 'rookie' mistake at the same time, and that particular mistake ended up being the straw that broke the camel's back in this case.

Hopefully he plays better for the rest of the year.

Because it is ignorant to say his one and only job was to not let anyone get behind him.
I know its nice to pretend he has no other responsibility than a bomb, but it is an obtuse view.

Sure, fair enough, but that was certainly his main responsibility. Particularly as the guy was running down the field near him..

As you pointed out, there was not going to be any other way that they beat us on that drive.

The whole world knew that was coming. We all knew. The fans at the game knew. Both coaches knew, and the Patriot secondary knew.

Yet he allowed the guy to run right past him unopposed, and failed to make any play on the ball whatsoever.

I don't imagine that coach Belichick will be too happy on that 'responsibility.'
