Solomon Wilcots "Shocking Belichick interview after the game"

Wow, I was kind of hesitant to hit play given the description, but then after watching it, I can't believe it's an issue.

I'm not sure what the proper answer is to the first question, which wasn't even a question. "Yes, Soloman, we did have a lead, and then we didn't, which is hard to take, because, you know, you'd like to a keep a lead, but we didn't, and that means we lost the game. If you're asking why we didn't keep the lead, it's because, well, they made plays."

The second question was an invitation to BB to make an excuse for the loss, which he declined to do and instead praised both teams, which is hardly "classless."

BB was upset, it looked like he was almost holding back emotion. Men of BB's era don't show their tears.

Also, he did say, "you're welcome." Very polite move by a classless jerk.

C'mon, the man was upset. His team shot themselves in the foot a few times. It has been a draining 2 weeks for this team.

He answered the questions, and was polite.

If they want endless, useless info, interview Shannon Sharpe.

Act like a moron? If somebody asked me about my thoughts 10 minutes after that loss I would've told them to f--- off.
agreed. I don't get what was so significant in that interview, Belichick must've been heart broken, and these guys laugh when he doesnt want to give an interview after he lost to his rival in the AFC championship.

I think the part that seemed to make it an issue was that jerk-off Marino and his reaction to it at the end

I want to be a commentator on these shows. I like to call it exactly as it is. Not root for my former team or best buddies.

They need guys to say that this may happen and why. There is to much personal bias from these clowns.

Going into yesterday, I knew we could easily win or lose and I could explain that.

But, when you continually pick vs. teams because you dislike them, c'mon, get a different job. Shannon would pick us to lose vs. a high school team, as would Irvin.

I want knowledgeable people providing useful info, not biased clowns.

That being said, I love to watch the pregames just to get fired up and feel disrespected.

He came across as looking tired and shocked to me. Making anymore of this seems like an attempt to make an issue. Unless he said something to Wilcotts off camera.

This is destined to become another LT style story which crap all over BB just because he's been a) different than the mould and b) successful.

:yeahthat: :ditto:

The public, already tired of us, were sour because we came back and beat Paper Champions San Diego. So they got bailed out when the flu went through Foxboro the following week, however they need to find someone to beat up on. Brady is above this stuff, so they target the other catalyst for success, BB, who happens to be genuinely shy.

The tradition of the losing coach interview is idiotic. It's not for the hardcore fans. It's for the casual fans who watch the big games. The notion that coaches are judged by the losing-coach interview is absurd. Mike Kryzwewski, or however you spell his name, gives a great losing-coach interview. And so gets this silly "classy" coach reputation, when the reality is that he's just like everyone else.

I would submit that nobody knows what's in Belichick's heart or mind, and the reality is that probably when it comes to respecting your opponent, he is the most old school, genuine, and hardcore guy out there.

I love our head coach. That's the bottom line. I wouldn't trade him for anything. Putting his private life to the side, which I have no idea about, the reality is that in his professional life, he's not a complicated man.

He loves to coach football. But that's all he loves. The rest of it is like a big obligation that utterly saps him and makes him extremely uncomfortable. He's not like a coach who takes from the media but refuses to give. He's not exactly seeking attention even when things go well, either. He hates all of it and would surely choose, if given the chance, to do none of it. That's just who he is. I just don't understand why this is such a big deal to people. I get that about the media -- I mean, he doesn't make their jobs easy -- but anyone else, why would you care. More important, why would it be important to you to force a guy to do something that he hates? I guess if you think that he's just deliberately being an as*hole, that's one thing. But that's clearly just not the case.

I tend to agree with LloydBraun here...to me, that was a man who was fighting back a great deal of frustration and heartache at the loss...this is a man who has given up most of his life to winning, not losing, and to think that after such a draining battle, after such a long year of practice and committment, after so many sniping attacks from so many in the press, he is going to be able to come up with calm and detached commentary on the defeat...that is ridiculous. I can't express how ridiculous that seems to me. Moreover, BB is not a man of small talk, which worsens the entire matter.

Hell, most passionate fans could not articulate themselves well after a loss such as that, and they have done almost nothing, and given almost nothing of themselves, in comparison with Belichick.

Much of this reminds me of one of Simmons' columns last year or so, when he was talking about the bizarre and naive foolishness of many TV commentators in emotional situations, such as a devastating playoff loss. Imagine one of them giving a play-by-play of your girlfriend dumping you: "Oh man, she picks up her purse, and now she's out the door! She's leaving him for the assclown with more hair and more money! That has to really hurt! Hey there, Bill, can you tell us what you're feeling right now? You were a happy couple, and now kablooie! I mean, what happened just then? Walk us through it."

Now, at the bar, said wiseguy gets punched in the nose; at a Parcells pressy, he'd go off on the reporter for being a dumbass, and the same press would chortle over it for years, thinking that there but for the clutch of luck go they.

BB mumbles rather dully for 2 and a half minutes, and then says "you're welcome." Methinks the wiseguys got off easy yesterday.

WOW, aside from Marino behaving like an A-hole who never lost...or was it won anything...that is what you get for asking basically rhetorical questions - and ones you already know the answer too because he told you the day before in production meetings they were tired - to a HC who isn't a media whore prone to throwing his players under a bus or going off on an incoherent rant to defelct criticism what went wrong after losing a conference championship game by 4 points with a minute left on the clock.

I heard most of Coffee with the Coach today and he didn't sound devastated. Nobody likes to loose. He sounded a lot more resigned to what happened yesterday than he did a year ago in Denver because he knows this team did they best they could under challenging circumstances some of which were of his making and all of which were pretty much out of their control as a team.

He sounded ready to get back at it once they all have a needed break, he both complimented Asante (and lots of other players) while reiterating that success is a function of both talent and scheme/coaching meshing.

He made it clear that while he was not going to change his policy on talking about his contract, he will be back and he is very, very happy here with this team and great ownership and loyal fans (LOL) and he loves being a football HC and while it is a demanding job he is still enjoying it doing that job here tremendously.

Some of you need to either grow a real pair as fans or shut the dam media off for a few days if you can't tolerate either mindless or constructive criticism.

I watched and did actually come to a conclusion. Wilcots was a DUMB player and he's an even dumber interviewer.

I'd hope if you were ever in that situation you'd have a little more maturity than that.

This man represents my team-I think he could take a tiny bit of his obvious brilliance and at least make a coherent response.

SW: Duh, gee coach was fatigue a factor in the second half"

BB: Ummm, Of course not Solly, you f**king dolt, we planned to have the D cough up 30+ points in the second half so we could all end the season and hit the links a little early. You got any more stupid ***** questions, d**kweed.... cuz I gotta get dressed so me and Tommy can hit the town and town and really tie one on.

----------------

That's what you or I or any other person might have said in that situation, but our CLASSY coach stood there, crushed spirit and all, and answered all his stupid questions politely and then said your welcome.

I can't believe people took issue with it.

I really hate Marino.

To the victors go the spoils, and to the losers... well, the long knives are out, the throne usurped, the king is wounded and the peasants are kicking him as he staggers out of town. They think he's finished... but he isn't. Reinforcements are on the way, baby!!! Pats win again in '08 and shut MOFO's like Wilcots & Co. up.

What they expect with a guy named solo-mon talking to Belichick?

I heard the Real Postgame Show guys talking about it, but I never saw anything about it. I'd like to see a video as well...
does it really matter .i dont want a coach who handles losing well anyway .all i know is there is no other coach in the league that i want coaching the patriots .

agreed. I don't get what was so significant in that interview, Belichick must've been heart broken, and these guys laugh when he doesnt want to give an interview after he lost to his rival in the AFC championship.

you make the rather large assumption that he has a heart :singing:

The loss couldn't of happened to a more deserving group.:bricks:

I don't see what the big deal is.. he answered both questions.

Marino is just happy that Esiason didn't call Manning the "modern day Dan Marino" again. That beautiful CBS studio would have been destroyed this time.

And maybe I'm nitpicking, but was Shannon Sharpe trying to rub the loss in with the "I'm going to the Super Bowl! I'm going to the Super Bowl!" stuff? Doesn't he hate the Pats?

Oh piss off.
