and Kerry Taylor

I hate cuts.

especially paper cuts

The Pats might trade for someone.
Somebody who played for Josh? Rams and Broncos would be interesting cuts to watch but look how far they have to fall to reach NE. Talk about risky business.

This is some high stakes **** going on here.

Yes, we need to add depth.

WR: Welker, Hernandez, Lloyd, Edelman
TE: Gronkowski, Fells, Shiancoe

Let me make you feel better.

1. Don't for get that we still have 4 elite receivers for Brady to choose from on virtually every play. And that doesn't take into consideration the RB's.

2. We are talking about receiver depth that will very rarely get on the field unless there is an injury or someone needs a blow.

3. Will it make you feel any better. if sometime over the next month Ebert is sent to the PS and Gaffney gets resigned

4. Will it make you feel any better knowing that Branch is most likely going to be just a phone call away in case of injury.

BTW- speaking of Branch it will be interesting to see how much interest he gets. I'm thinking that if he doesn't have a job by the end of this weekend, he isn't gong to get one, and will be available if the call goes out.

Ebert is dressed at practice. Only thing we know for sure is roster will be different on 9/9. Sit tight.

I'm fine with the wide receiver cuts. I made the simple statement that we need depth in case of injuries.

We have the best (or very near the best) starting 4 receiver options in the nfl.

Branch has said goodbye to one and all. I believe him.

Yes, I would feel better if Gaffney re-signs.

I'm fine with Belichick using a roster spot for an inactive developmental receiver (Ebert). He has done so before.

That's GREAT. Now I can go on with my day.

BTW- So far the Pats have had by far the most interesting cuts. ;)

Is it Edelman's time to shine?

Well last year we had 8 players in the WR/TE positions. IF IF we keep 4 TE instead of 2 + the 4 WR then we are in exactly the same position numbers wise.

I do feel however that either Gaffney or Branch will be back after week 1 like G Warren was last year.

Interesting times.

While I don't think he could take alot of snaps ,
I wouldn't be surprised to see Demps spreadout wide midway thru the season.
A smaller, speedier mike wallace...
If he gets a step.....
Even Ben Watson couldn't catch him :D

Imagine (if possible) a Patriots safety missing a few games, and who gets to start? Now that is a weird thought.

I have complete faith in our safety rotation. I said when Rodney retired that we'd never be a good D unless we get quality rotation at safety and we finally have it. Edner will be THAT good and I'm completely serious about it.

I dunno about that. Watson was a freak of nature.
If Ebner stuck on the 53, I would be pleasantly surprised because it would mean that he had beat out Gaffney, Stallworth, and Branch for a spot.

Ebert?

He is a TE when he is in the slot.

It's really all a matter of semantics.

In one sense, he's a tight end all the time, wherever he's lined up on the offense; he's a tight end playing special teams when he's receiving kicks, and he's a tight end when he's on the sideline drinking gatorade. He's a tight end because that's the position the Patriots have designated him as, and had he not extended his contract and ended up given the franchise tag, it would be for the tight end value.

In another sense, he's only a tight end when he's the last player on his side flush with the line of scrimmage (i.e. an End) while not being the furthest player from center (i.e. not a Split End.)

In this case, he'd still be a TE when motioned into the slot provided that he remains an flush with the line of scrimmage, and that he isn't the farthest outside receiving option on his side of the play.

Often, though, you'll see the Pats have Hernandez or Gronk lined up in the slot a few steps off the line of scrimmage, in which case, he's not an "End" of any sort. Depending on where he's lined up, you could call him an H-Back, slot receiver, full back, or even flanker. Less often, you might find Hernandez lined up flush with the line of scrimmage, and the furthest split receiver on his side, at which point he'd be lined up as a split end.
