No, no and no.

Demps to the 53

Can put players on IR before the 53 is set.

Can you? I believe that it depends on whether or not they're a veteran or still on their rookie contracts. That's why the Pats had to waive Fletcher before IRing him, if I'm not mistaken, and it's also why the Giants had to waive Ballard, creating the opportunity for the Pats to snatch him (and is presumably why Ballard is currently on PUP, and not IR).

That was before you had to cut down to 75.

Mods....you created this thread for NEWS only.....yet we have to sort thru 8 pages of posts with commentary to see find out the first 7 cuts.
Keep this thread as NEWS ONLY and save the commentary for the COMMENTARY thread

I'm confused about the Branch cut, Hernandez is a slot type WR not an end type. This makes Edelman our #3 .......... I like Edelman but .......

Maybe Branch was cut short term, otherwise we have no depth.

One fact to remember: vet salaries can become guaranteed. . . .

The only one that stuns me is Branch. That would seem to indicate that they're planning to bring Gaffney back at some point when healthy, or at least I would hope. Because, if not, what the hell else do we have at WR besides Edelman who is simply not an outside receiver? Anybody from the Gaffney thread wish to comment on this now? Bueller? Bueller?

Ebert was cut (and he's not a veteran), Slater??? as a receiver??

Or perhaps they have a trade worked out for Dez Bryant.

Is it possible they plan on placing someone on the in season IR list and then re-sign Branch?...
I believe the player needs to be on the 53 roster before being placed on IR.

I doubt that Branch would be tweeting goodbyes if he was told to hold tight and get re-signed

Yes

I was speaking in the abstract which upon re-reading was far from clear.

Additionally, WEEI.com reports that DB Derrick Martin and MassLive.com reports that DE Aaron Lavarias have both been released. Martin is a vested veteran, so he immediately becomes a free agent; Lavarias still has practice squad eligibility. Both were long-shots to make the roster.

Brandon Bolden and Jeremy Ebert suited up and headed to practice this afternoon
