Sean Payton asks Bill Parcells to be the Saints interim Head Coach

Oh oh...now Quiet Strength and even Jerry Rice have weighed in on the sham aspect of how NO is dealing with it's punishment...

It's the arrogance again too. Sean couldn't just keep his mouth shut, had to let it be known he had a way around his punishment... Get his money back via TV and get his team coached by his mentor...

Herm Edwards: Saints are making a mockery of the Rooney Rule | ProFootballTalk

Isn't Dungy Quiet Strength? Perhaps the Saints can interview Jonathan Vilma for the temporary position. Offer him a 10k bonus if he knocks out the other candidates.

He's not going to get to do whatever he wants. That's the rub. He's being asked to babysit Payton's kid while Payton is on sabatical in Siberia... If the kid gets screwed up because grampa was too rigid or too lax...Tuna will be hard pressed to point fingers, as will Sean for being away. He will have little or no say in personnel matters. They are finalizing their draft board even as we speak. They are running a base defense that is outside his comfort zone, and an offense like nothing he's ever run with a QB who basically will be calling the shots. Aside from running interference with the media, about all I could see him doing is pissing some of the talent off.

I think he always wanted another shot at a ring. I think he always expected one. But he had lost the fire to coach before he left Dallas. That's why the situation in Miami initially appealed to him. Full control but none of the responsibility for the daily grind. Hand picked staff. Carte blanche at the grocery store. Then he found out control absent hands on coaching involvement was unsatisfying and hollow. In NO he'd either have no control yet face the daily involvement and responsibility for the product on the field or he'd be a figurehead running interference for and babysitting it. I don't think he'd find either situation satisfying for long let alone at the potential expense of a shot at attending his own HOF induction...

Well just covering one thing. Sure he will get to do whatever he wants in respect to coaching the team. Benson, Rita, and GM's in NO have never bothered the coaches.
He won't be involved in draft or other long term matters, but he will be involved in personal and rotation changes, and yes pissing of the talent :)
I really don't see Parcells coaching and not getting complete control, its just not his career MO, and SP is so smitten with him, he will probably back him up. The HO will probably feel obligated to give him final decision, because its a favor.
I think it depends on what the Tuna wants. He might want to just babysit or a full role.
But its not like another coach won't want the same.

I mean its not easy to find a HC and then tell them " Oh, BTW no matter how well you do, your fired at the end of the year"

Exactly...of course, this salient point is lost within the labyrinth of "expert" vomitorium know-it-alls who seem to think the Saints won't go for the best option at HC for THIS season.

Yeah. That's good information and confirms my going-in post (above p.3, #26) that Parcells wouldn't do this.

The only thing that's got me second-guessing myself is that if Payton somehow gets his sentence reduced to half the season, whether Tuna might find it attractive to take the job (for a full season salary, of course) and then hang around as a "Special Assistant" or something for the rest of the year. That way he would be able to share the blame for failure and take the credit for success.

But, in any event, I wouldn't see Goodell waiving the five year HOF wait since that would be sort of like "enabling" Payton, at whom he must be pretty pissed to have handed down the full year suspension.

Saints Reel in "The Tuna"!

I didn't know that tuna swam in the Mighty Mississippi...

Anyway, since it's N'Awlins, maybe something more like "Drove my Chevy to the levee but the Tuna was gone."

Goodell can't waive the HOF waiting period. The Hall is independent of the NFL, and they are about as likely to waive the waiting period for Tuna as Goodell is to lower these penalties on appeal... NO is just stalling, kinda like the NFLPA is with player penalty recommendations and HgH testing...

NFLPA needs to walk the walk after the CBA talk.

That said, I'm not sure that HGH for adults in medically supervised context isn't a good thing for injured athletes. The science is not settled.

Yeah, we are stalling.. we know we won't get reduced penalties. If anything this Parcells possibility is just pissing him off more. Its obvious that the penalties are also design to hurt the entire teams ability to be productive.
My take is that they did not give the Saints enough time to get a HC, work out draft, personnel changes in the lineup ..etc. So we are appealing just to stall for time to do that.

But, to be fair The NFL is not releasing information on the exact evidence they have to prove what they say. Theres a 50,000 page document , but no one is seeing this document. It really should be released so we as fans can know also.
NFL must release information on New Orleans Saints investigation, NFLPA's DeMaurice Smith says - ESPN

They released enough of it. You don't need to know, you want to know. The simple fact is they've lied about it and only recently admitted it and to an extent apologized for it and to now ask for clarification on what it is is pretty transparent.

We talked about this, and we do want it released. They are just releasing media blurbs, and emails they found.
But, your right, we also talked about wether we want the NFL to release all they have because we might even look worse.
Why the NFLPA is not getting all the information Im not sure of. I see no reason to not send them the evidence to make a good call. SP admitted nothing, he apologized for letting it go this far. He never said he lied about anything.

He said its his responsibility. Wether he's covering for GW or just covering his legal actions I don't know.
Even more reason for the NFL to release what they have. Really no reason to drag this out, and when the NFLPA says they are not seeing any evidence of a pay to hurt program, which guys like porter said never existed , it hurts their position. And we are certainly not going to throw our boys under a bus for media statements, and news blurbs. They have done to much for us. Just release the documents.

.. and God help you NFL if they can't prove what they have put us threw, we love our boys.

Goodell never released the 2007 videos, except the one his wife leaked to her Fox News employer. Why would the Saints get a preferential public release?

They won't and thats not right. The NFL should have released the extent of the teams that were doing the same thing, and that it was never against any rule.
You just bare the burden as fans. Its pretty obvious that BB was never doing anything he thought was wrong. But, why hold back from the NFLPA? Who has to decide or agree to suspensions .
The NFL is basically saying we don't have to show you anything, just do what we tell you, and the NFLPA is saying " we don't see a problem here". Thats baffling.

as a saints fan said about this
"Yep, I don't understand the level of animosity either, other then much of it being fueled by the media and people always like to kick you when you're down. If Goodell can arbitrarily punish the Saints without showing his cards, he can do it to the rest of the league as well."

Back in 2007 Goodell acted quickly to ensure that no other teams were brought to light for violating the camera placement rule, e.g. the Jets. His actions then and now are designed to minimize the league's exposure and to isolate one team as the example for all. It's his modus operandi. Old as humanity, sacrifice one to the gods to keep the others in line. Looking at this from the viewpoint of all owners as a collective it's not a flawed business strategy for minimizing brand damage and maximizing profit. From the viewpoint of the fans of the target team, it sucks.

lol, true, but this is not helping the NFL, its creating a huge division. 1st find SP never had access to the documents , and that seemed impossible to us and other fans, now the NFLPA also is not being given access to the same documents. So when SP said he didn't read it,, it was the truth. The NFL just needs to come clean and give us what we deserve.

Hasn't it been reported that Payton claimed he knew nothing about bounties and when the league showed him an email from the Reggie Bush agent guy that he was putting money in that Payton said, yeah that was a bounty?

Yeah, but that was a email. How many emails from rich guys are you going to get heading into a SB from every team with the same stupid remarks? How many silly emails do you get from people?
But he never answered back, thats the telling part. Why didn't he email back "Ill take that bet" or anything. He ignored it, and that money was never payed to anyone. They can't even find any money that was payed to our boys to hurt another player. Farve, warner , no one, and it should be pretty easy to find.

so we are an example now.

any team that even poses a hint of a threat to Goodell's NY based cabal will become an "example"...especially as the countdown to NY Super Bowl 2014 looms...Giants/Jets Super Bowl...Goodell's crowning achievement and the legacy he lusts after every working day..
