Mario Williams is now a Buffalo Bill

I dunno. With a serviceable, if inconsistent, QB and the 14th ranked Offense in the NFL and now with a significant upgrading of a suspect D, I don't think that qualifies Buffalo as "the very definition of a bad team."

Doesn't make them a Super Bowl favorite, but sure means that other teams will underestimate them at their peril.

I think the big losers in this are the Jets. The Bills and Dolphins have gotten better and the Pats are the Pats. Since the last game of the season, it's hard to say that the Jets have done anything but go downhill.

When did the Dolphins get better? I must have been napping.

Merriman's played in 26 games since 2007. He's got 5 sacks since 2007, and 4 of those were in 2008. Why should anyone be worried about Merriman right now?

Barnett's got 7 sacks in 45 games since 2007.

You did get part of that correct, as I double counted his 3 game season because I misread pro-football-reference.com. So:

Merriman's played in 23 games since 2007. He's got 5 sacks since 2007, and 4 of those were in 2008. He's got 1 sack, total, in his last 13 games. His 4 sacks in 2008 came in 2 consecutive games of 2 sacks each. He's recorded a sack in only 3 of his last 25 games.

So, to repeat:

I really hate this sort of weak-ass 'analysis', because it's a crock but some people are silly enough to buy it.

When Brady missed all of 2008, was that just an 'excuse' for the Patriots missing the playoffs on a tiebreaker after having gone 16-0 the previous season? When Manning missed all of last season, was that just an 'excuse' for the Colts declining from 10 wins to 2 wins?

Look,the Bills started out hot in '11 with a team that didnt have depth. Injuries hit. They couldnt sustain the hot start due to aforementioned lack of depth. That depth is being built with guys like Justin Rogers, Alex Carrington, Arthur Moats, Chris Hairston, Leodis McKelvin, Chad Rinehart, CJ Spiller. It takes some time. This year's draft will produce even more depth. Whats so hard to understand?
