Cundiff, other Raven players claim the Pats scoreboard erred on final drive.

I thought the coaches were trying to get his attention and he was in La La Land?

How the hell would Cundiff even know what down it was, he had to come sprinting in from midfield. Are you telling me he lined up to kick and saw the scoreboard and said to himself, wait why I am I kicking, it's only 3rd down?

And their 'kicking consultant' is in CYA mode because he knows that his one job is to have the kicker ready and he couldn't do it.

Just another liquored up kicker who can't hit the big one.

The scoreboard error added a degree of difficulty to the Ravens' execution that they should have overcome easily, and that they should indeed have overcome VERY easily given that they had a TO left they had no other use for.

If they want to think about karma, I think the moment that did it was Bernard Pollard intentionally twisting Gronk's legs and trying to hurt him.

That's just silly, even on the play he did hurt Gronk, I'm fairly certain he tackled waist/thigh and fell on top of Gronk's ankle. I've seen that tackle a thousand times. Nothing illegal or ill-willed that I remember seeing.

Note: I only remember it from the game, and NFL Replay has not yet reached that part again.

after rewatching the game, I still don't think it was intentional. I may think Pollard is an a**, but this whole 'dirty player' thing is stupid. Its football, people get hurt.

We all watched the game, we all watched the replays of the missed kick.

I have yet to see anyone looking around aimlessly, or any bearing of a whiff that someone was confused regarding what down it was.

There was not ONE player or coach who mentioned a word about it before yesterday. They simply trotted him out there (I disagree that he "rushed" out on the field), he lined up like he has 10,000 times, and missed the kick.

Case closed.

Another example of looking for a damn excuse.

No one was confused about it being 3rd or 4th down...NO ONE.

The aftermath of missing 32 yard AFCCG game clinching field goal = mental patient

Blaming inanimate scoreboard = no terrell suggs beating

Cudiffs in a very bad space, not sure I blame the guy.

Now the Ravens 'Kicking Consultant' is jumping in.....Like someone comments... The score board is for the FANS. The players and coaches should be watching the chain gang.

Baltimore Ravens kicking consultant thinks the Patriots may have cheated during AFC title game

Speaking with 94 WIP in PhiladelphiaTuesday, Ravens kicking consultant Randy Brown said he it's possible that the Patriots did it intentionally to cause confusion.

"I don't think you can rule anything out in New England, can you?" Brown said.

Ravens Kicking Consultant Randy Brown is Mayor of Evesham Township, NJ ( Mayor Brown ) and moonlights as a kicking coach.

You cannot make this stuff up. In the attached story he says his his personal motto is:

“Obstacles are what you see when you take your eyes off the goal.”

Maybe he taught his protege Billy Cundiff too well.

In this Month's Bull

From the ESPN: OTL report, even many of the Ravens players were confused about what down it was because of the Boldin fumble. So they can blame the scoreboard, but most of them had no clue what was going on either.

That's just typical Ravens football. Blame everyone but yourselves, hold nobody accountable, always blame the refs/the league/whoever. You'll never see a BB team complain about the refs or injuries or strange calls or make any other excuses.

You can tell Harbaugh is trying to change that within the team. His comments were very careful afterwards. But obviously the rest of his team is still the same old Ravens.

They needed to call the timeout then. Fools.

“The scoreboard was one down behind, the entire last three plays, from what we understand,” Brown told our pal Angelo Cataldi. Asked if the Patriots did it on purpose, Brown said, “I don’t think you can rule anything out in New England, can you?

OK, Mayor, if it was of for the last three plays, and you knew it, why did you

A. Continue to refer to it and not the on field markers, which are correct?

B. Not inform an official, if it was that big of a deal in the two plays prior to wide left?

C. Have your kicker ready to get out there on second down, instead of third down, if you were indeed following only the scoreboard, which you knew was wrong for the last three plays.

Way to make yourself look stupid, Mayor.

For what it's worth: the scoreboard operator was very slow changing down-and-distance and yard-line spot all day. I noticed that from the very beginning because I check it often throughout games and was frustrated by this Sunday. But regardless, the Ravens should know that the scoreboard is for fans, not players and coaches. Everything they need to know is right there on the field. To claim otherwise is both unprofessional and lazy.

Spot on

Folks act as if this never happens. I've noticed a few discrepancies in other games I attended at Gillette. It's obvious that the scoreboard operators are connected bozos, not that it really matters. The down markers on the field are what counts. Saw the refs get even that wrong once or twice. Remember BB yelling at the refs about it once.

Here is what I think may have happened. After the refs screwed up the game clock after the Boldin fumble, the scoreboard operator was waiting for a whistle to correct the time error, but the whistle never came, and they were so preoccupied with the refs losing control of the gameclock that they never reset the downs from 1st down to 2nd as they should have (assuming the marker was originally changed when they saw the ball go out of bounds past the marker).

It's really shockingly unprofessional for a player and coaching staff to admit (1) they didn't know the down and distance (at any time), and implicitly (2) that they're unaware of the official on-field markers showing down and distance.

Honestly, in any road game, would Flacco/Harbaugh or BB/Brady ever argue "The scoreboard showed 3rd down, but it was actually 4th, so we ran a play and didn't punt. Oops."

Basically, as a professional, you're broadcasting to the world that you didn't know the down and distance. Absolutely humiliating. They should walk these comments back and then shut up, IMHO.

Added: In fairness, I think the mediots (as usual) are pushing this story harder than the Ravens may have intended, distorting and misrepresenting the context/importance (as usual). Nevertheless, for reasons mentioned above, the Ravens never should have raised the topic.

My wife who is a football fan (albeit not a diehard) when told of this story just scoffed. Her exact words were - "It's the end of the game! 15 seconds left for a Championship Game! And you don't know what down it is?! Just kick the damn field goal! Someone should be fired for not tracking the downs properly if that is their excuse or better yet - use a timeout if you are confused!"

I saw that too. I was confused on a few plays throughout the game, and saw the numbers change a little late. Of course at the end, under a minute, I didn't need to see the board. You had 3 plays to make the endzone or a first down to try to go to a Super Bowl. If the first 3 tries don't wind up in the endzone or with a first down you kick it. How hard is that. Each play was so critical, how can you lose track. If you can't count to 4 then I have serious concerns for the Ravens coaching staff.

Scoreboard-gate is an extension of Video-gate! It just keeps getting better. Mayor Randy Brown and Billy Cundiff did not act alone. Eric Mangini and the NY Jets are behind Scoreboard-gate! Really!

It all starts with Evesham Township, NJ Mayor and Ravens' Kicking Consultant Randy Brown who is accusing the Patriots of cheating in Scoreboard-gate.

Brown is a graduate of Cherokee High School in Marlton, NJ and a fellow alumnus is Mike Devlin, offensive line coach for NY friggin' Jets! Devlin was hired as the Jets offensive line coach in 2006 by, you guessed it, Eric Fredo Mangini! All true.

Un-freakin-believable!

The other thing is that Mayor Randy is still carrying a big old sack of humiliation around from Cherokee High School where he missed an extra point that ultimately ended his team’s 30-game unbeaten streak.

Somebody has to get this information to Skip Bayless so he can ask Mangini about how long he has been plotting Scoreboard-gate. Stay tuned.
