Cundiff, other Raven players claim the Pats scoreboard erred on final drive.

From the Batimore help wanted section of Craigs list.

Wanted assistant coach to aid a professional sports team with game day clock management. Qualifications: Must be able to count to 4.

I can actually almost (key word:almost) sort of sympathize with the Ravens here. A lot of people are taking the "better than thou" approach that "I bet the Patriots would never use the scoreboard to see down and distance."

Well ya know what? I bet you they do!! Maybe not the coaches on the headsets but certainly some of the players on the sidelines who maybe can't see the official marker are just going to look up at the jumbletron.

Cundiff isn't saying he would have kicked the ball differently if it was 3rd down versus if it was 4th down. He saying that if it was 3rd down, he probably wouldn't have been out there on the field in the first place. So since he thought it was 3rd down, he wasn't quite as ready as he otherwise would have been.

The fact that they had a timeout and didn't use it is what stops me from having any sympathy for them. But they're certainly not the first team to mess up with seconds left in the game.

It wasn't a game-winning kick so he'd never be out there on 3rd down under any circumstances whatsoever unless there were 5 ticks or less on the clock.

OHHHHH, now I know why I said "big third down here" on 4th down (not sarcasm, it just makes sense now).

I'm a Giants fan but I really don't understand why Baltimore rushed Cundiff and why everything was panicked. You were pretty much in chip shot FG range, why not make sure everything is setup and take the delay of game penalty? Is a 31 yarder and a 36 yarder really THAT much different? I notice the Giants take a few delay of game penalties just to make sure everything is setup, it's not like the penalty would have knocked them out of FG range.

The scoreboard had an error but that doesn't change the fact that you shanked it.

No.

No need to take the delay of game penalty. They had a time out. The HC or the ST coach or the player should have called a TO to regroup. Grousing about this only highlights lack of situational awareness and preparedness.

This is also true. Could have taken a timeout, and if they had none remaining they still could have taken the delay of game before rushing the kick. Rushing the kick is the last thing they should have done. I think Harbaugh was just worried about appearing to "ice his own kicker" if he calls a timeout and then Cundiff misses.

Here's a question from me: Does each team hire their own personel for scoreboard duties or are they officials from the NFL itself? I heard a caller claim that the all scorers in the NFL are hired and controled by the NFL and not individual teams, said a friend worked in the business. BS?

Who gives a rats ***** if the scoreboard was wrong. Thats home field advantage baby. Don't lose at Seattle and maybe you can have home field. Your coach blew this game .... yeah the mighty Harbaugh. Not only didn't he call a time out to set everything up at the crucial point, but he didn't have the balls to go for it on 4th down and a half yard in the 2nd qtr. You get a turnover on a kick return and can't score

The Ravens had multiple opportunities to win this game .... and didn't. I don't want to hear no crap that the better teams are not in the Super Bowl. Were going and you're not ... S*&K IT.

What I dont like about Billy Cundiff after his shank is his shameless self-promotion in his following press conferences. "I haven't missed a 4th quarter field goal all season" does not mitigate an inability to perform in the big game. But worse than that, talking himself up is the opposite of the humility that is needed by players to be good role-models.

Actually, this demonstrates the genius of BB and his dedication to details. BB plans for all scenarios, including the one where the opposing team fumbles forward out of bounds inside the 20 with less than a minute left and winds up short of the first down. I would guess that every Friday after practice, BB spent extra time with the scoreboard operator to insure he knew what to do under all circumstances. That's why BB is the greatest coach ever.

Really? The Ravens "kicking consultant" is talking ****, too?

Now, a member of the Ravens organization isn't ruling out that the Patriots may have been behind the whole thing.

"The scoreboard was one down behind, the entire last three plays, from what we understand," Ravens kicking coordinator Randy Brown told Angelo Cataldi and The Morning Team on 94 WIP on Tuesday, according to CBSPhilly.com.

Brown was then asked if he thought the scoreboard issue could have been intentional on part of the Patriots.

"I don't know," he responded, "I don't think you can rule anything out in New England, can you?" Brown responded.

Brown was also asked about the prospects head coach John Harbaugh calling a time out to give the Ravens a chance to get things together before the attempt.

"With kickers, I think we learned with [Dallas Cowboys head coach] Jason Garrett this year, you don't want to call time out to ice your own kicker. ... It was our belief that he was ready."

Class organization from top to bottom, that Ravens team is.

On the other hand, he manned up and said he missed it and it was his own fault. He didn't come up with this lame excuse, Deadspin did and a bunch of other whiny Ravens fans, media members, and a kicking consultant have piled on

What on God's green earth is a kicking consultant? This guy is on the Ravens' payroll? I suggest hiring a "down management" consultant next.

Heh.
Somebody whose job it is to actually talk to the kicker?
You know, so somebody actually does talk to them.

Funny the extra layer of coachiness did not prevent the big fail.

The old Scoreboard incorrectly listing preceding second and third downs trick, I knew it.:bricks:

So maybe he's like a personal assistant to Cundiff? I suspect Cundiff is a bit of a drama queen who maybe needs a handler.....remember when he pushed the camera away like he was Sean Penn?

RAVEN GAGS is no longer just the name of a porn site.

I came to this thread to post exactly this.

Can we come up with information one way or another?
