Media Should Back Off Of Tebow

If I was a Bronco fan, I would be really apprehensive about Tebow being my QB after that pres conference. My opinion of him is that he's the worst QB in the league (throwing the ball, accuracy, tight spiral, ability to read the rush, make adjustments, ball release speed and a lot of other things).

However, the really scary thing is that he thought it was a good day because he spent some time with a sick kid on game day. I don`t care if you`re a saint off the field, all I want my QB to think and do on game day is do whatever they need to win and the attitude he showed in the press conference is of one who does not really take this game as seriously as he should.

Tebow has nothing to do with the media making such a big deal out of him. It has nothing to do with religion. It has to do with a lot of people who think he sucks, so when he gets an opportunity he becomes a gimmick. Any little thing he does well sparks a debate that maybe he doesnt suck. When his team wins in spite of him, he gets credit for 'magic'.
He isn't asking for it. He consistently makes it about his team. Every question about him doing something well is answered by talking team.
He isn't asking for the attention.

The world is primarily made up of good people and we let the incessant onslaught of negative media feed into our fears to such a degree that people see a guy using his celebrity to reach out to a sick person and assume that Tebow has ULTERIOR MOTIVES.

Defaulting to cynicism is a horrible way to live and I seriously feel bad for you and those like you.

He wasn't saying winning doesn't matter. He added a comment that he helped a kid so how could that be a bad day, to add perspective. Rip Tebow all you want, but the guy has been described as the most competitive person his coaches and teammates have ever been around. There are many things to rip him for, why take the lame way and make one up?

I don't mean that exclusively as a snarky challenge. I mean, it's entirely possible that you, as opposed to the rest of us, have actually met the guy F2F and/or personally been round him often enough and long enough in non-media-driven settings to truly get a less "filtered" perspective on what he's like as a person.

Does his ego/desire for attention seem really more than what is pretty much required of any QB who hopes to play in the NFL (much less be successful as a pro)? Is he maybe a little more evangelistic about his faith/charitable works than others (which might be a motive apart from and beyond sheer self-aggrandizement for seeking extra media attention)? Does he seem sufficiently self-aware to (1) understand that his success-despite-being-unconventional story has been latched onto and blown all out of proportion by the media doing what it always does, and (2) to have decided to just roll with it until it passes? Or does he seem more like the Kardashian type, wanting to keep the "Tebow Train" going so as to bask in the personal adulation/notoriety for as long as possible?

I mean, I've never been a position to actually know the answers to such questions about Tebow, so it would be kinda nice to hear directly from someone who has been in that position.

So is being a lemming for whatever the media force feeds you. Especially when it's a 24 year old football player made out to be a higher being. Some of us live in the real world and some live in the land of puppy dogs, sunshine, ice cream and Tim Tebow.

The are plenty of politicians, athletes, celebrities etc. that I like and admire - - whom I can also see are media hounds. Bob Kraft is a media hound.

In the meantime, I'm here on a football forum talking about the media's continued focus on a QB who went 10-21 and 9-26 in his last two games. The other QB in the game last night set NFL records for TD and went relatively unnoticed.

Agree completely! I will always root for such a classy kid! There are plenty of polar opposites of him in sports, and he's a great role model for many. I hope he figures out his mechanics and becomes a great QB, losing in the AFC Championship game every year..........................................to the PATRIOTS!

Last night pretty much took care of that

If he's even half the kind of person and player he's reputed to be then he'll gnaw on that Humble Pie and also learn some things from last night. If he's smart he'll watch Professor Brady's film. Over and over and over again.

I don't think its about him, I think its about the foolish media obsession. At least for me, I find that to be silly.

Generally speaking, I find the fact that the media pitbulling what they perceive to be a "good story" and masticating it relentlessly until well beyond the point where most folks are completely sick of it to be about as disturbing as the "revelation" that bears poop in the woods. It's what they do. In fact, it's about ALL they know how to do. And they certainly aren't going allow extraneous "facts" or alternate perspectives to get in the way.

Also, anyone who is personally committed to charitable works (religious or secular) and doesn't take full advantage of free publicity is really doing their cause(s) a disservice.

Part of me thinks he says this crap just because he knows it helps his image and he knows the media goes bananas over it. I think he seems like a genuinely good person, but at the same time, he plays into his image...
