Not trying to start trouble, but has Gostkowski missed a kick since Walter was the holder?

I don't believe he has and that is a good point. Walter is a great holder.

It's funny to realize that Landetta was with the Giants when Belichick was Parcells' Defensive Coordinator there :D

As are a bunch of high school kids. Holder, schmolder, Walter sucks.

I watched a thing on the NFL Network about longsnapping and holding and a lot more goes into it than you think. It featured Walter and AV, and it talked about how they experimented to find the best angle and position for the ball to be held. They were really comfortable with eachother and Walter knew how to hold the ball exactly as AV liked it.

I know no one cares because everyone hates Walter.

But I jsut don't see how people think a guy who was brought in behind Walter will be better than him.

THANK YOU LORD! Walter was horrible! Landetta can't do much worse than Walter. I hope for Pats1 sake that Landetta can pick up the system:rolleyes: If I'm not mistaken, he defended the Pats signing Walter because he was the only punter that knew the system? ok.
He was just joking. Does it all the time. Sometimes he even says nice things about Patrick Pass :D

Landetta? What, Rich Camarillo wasn't available?

Regards,
Chris

Does landetta hold, because thats one area that walter was great at.

Everyone here is forgetting an important factor. The Ghost'sFG kicking has improved quite a bit. WHO IS HIS HOLDER?????? WALTER, who held for Vinatieri and was part of the team that provided all those clutch field goals.

What we may gain in punting yardage, if there is any, will we lose it on the scoreboard??????
Gostkowski was 7/7 with Walter and 7 for his last 8 with Miller. Unless you want to include two misses blocked off the dirt and grime that Walter didn't have to hold from, it's very difficult to make a compelling statistical arguement that Walter's holding had any bearing on Gostkowski's performance.

I thought this was a joke when I first read it. This guy could be my dad. Wow... I don't like to say it, but this seems very desperate and I don't have high expectations at all.

The great thing about Walter was he never kicked touchbakcs. Whenever we got to the point he could reach the end zone, we were in FG range. He could kick the ball as far as he could on every punt.
The problem was there were many times he couldnt reach the 50 punting from his own end.

I can appreciate that there are some holders that are better than others, but no way Gostkowski only made kicks because of Walter.
I think if we looked closely, he missed some kicks early on, then stopped missing them before and after Miller went on IR.

He averaged 43.6 last year and about the same the year before. We only have 6 games left anyway, he won't have time to get worn down :)

ESPN is now reporting that Sean Landetta, on his way to applying for a Senior Citizen housing apartment, tripped over some curbing and fractured his his kicking leg. Unfortunately, he has also been placed by the New England Patriots on Injured Reserve, but could be available for the 2008-2009 NFL football season.

He tore his ACL in the middle of last year, for all we know he's not 100% and is being kept to look at next year.

He must be quite a punting prospect if that's the case. I know he was very good for the first half of 2005, but there are a lot of punters floating around out there without MCL injuries, many of whom were also finalists for the Ray Guy award. Ray Guy is also floating around. I know he's old but so is Sean Landetta. Point is they probably could have let Danny sit at home until next year if they wanted him then, or put him on the infamous rookie red-shirt list *cough* IR.

Reiss reports Walter to I.R., but says Landeta hasn't been officially signed:

See, this makes more sense. I think (hope) this is Baughter's in-season tryout. If he can beat out Mr. Accrued Tenure and all the other old men of the mountain Pioli elects to fly out to Foxboro, he gets to punt, and the decision to put a dime-a-dozen undrafted rookie punter on the practice squad midseason looks shrewd. Seriously, if he's practicing he should be good to go, if he has the ability.

I'm just glad Walter is on IR so Belichick can't tease us like in 2004 when he released him then brought him back the next week.

I don't think he is. He's a solid one, though. He had always been a great placement, OK distance guy (just looking at stats, his distance could have been hurt by his placement of course) until last year when his placement was still good but his average just skyrocketed. If his leg's OK, I'd love to have him out there the rest of the way.

this could very well be temporary....i rmemeber in 2003 we signed a punter for 1 week and then cut him after 1 game...never know with BB and pioli

I'm sure in his 30+ years in the league Landetta learned a thing or two about holding. Let's overrate something every HS & NCAA team manages to find a player to competently do.

So is Landetta now the last remaining NFL player to have been in the original Tecmo Bowl?
