Safeties Darren Sharper and Renaldo Hill Coming In For Workouts Too

Re: Sharper and Hill Coming in Too

I don't think this has anything to do with Brandon M.

Sanders has been sidelined for a few days now. Barrett too. Dowling made only one practice, if you consider him an option for snaps at safety. That hardly leaves enough players at the position to incorporate some of the schemes BB must want to mix in.

If Sharper has anything left and would come at a reasonable price, why wouldn't you bring him in for a look see. It's not like they couldn't dump one of the twenty-odd DL they have in camp.

Re: Sharper and Hill Coming in Too

I don't see either of these as potential replacements for Meriweather.

Maybe a depth signing, but still not all that keen on either.
A month before the season opener inviting in guys off the waiver wire is not very likely an attempt to find a starter, or a reaction to something about one of the other 90 players on the roster.

They are available. Bringing them in is to see what they have left. Finding unemployed players during training camp is not a way to manage the top of your depth chart.

Sharper reminds me of the attempt to bring John Lynch in, and I'd expect it to go the same way. Hill has never impressed me much.

I've always hoped Sharper would be a Patriot. I just think it may be a little too late. It would be something though if he had enough left in the tank to resurrect his career at a high level.

Re: Sharper and Hill Coming in Too

Darren Sharper would be an excellent addition. Who do we even have aside from Chung, Meri and Sanders?

Re: Sharper and Hill Coming in Too

The safety issue I had been curious about. Never been an BM fan....except in the privacy of my bathroom, but I also believe that Chung has been a liability in the passing game.

I'm not sensing desperation but I think they're gonna try to minimize the damage as much as possible by weeding through a bunch of bodies.

Re: Sharper and Hill Coming in Too

A 3 would be :) a 4 thou??? not to thrilled about a 4th. Who are some desperate DB teams? plz say Al Davis:p Aso is gone and he would be a far cheaper option than he was.

A 4 does not impress me. BM is overrated in my book, but he is a solid body to help our depth. I rather keep him if it is indeed a 4th the dude can still play, just lapses in zone coverage

Lose a CB and trade for a S to replace him?

Also, a player is only worth what someone else will pay for him, not what you want.

Stop.

FITZGERALD, Larry

for surplus DLmen (Love, Richard, maybe another) and WRs, add a big bang clock too (please) ............. he's unsigned and can't be franchised.

Puuuuuhleeease!

Re: Sharper and Hill Coming in Too

haa this FA period has been so exciting this year :D

Re: Sharper and Hill Coming in Too

All though Sharper is over the hill...i always wanted him in a pats jersey since he was a FA a few years ago

Re: Sharper and Hill Coming in Too

In regards to all the veterans being brought into camp, there are two very important factors that may be being overlooked by some people.

First, the lockout meant zero time for any coaching staffs to work with rookies. That means for the 2011 season the value of an NFL veteran on a roster increases, while conversely expectations for contributions from rookies should be tempered.

Second, training camp roster sizes are 90 players this year. With ten additional players in camp obviously some of them will be older veterans. It would be unreasonable to expect all ten extra spots go to undrafted free agents.

We have a normal, natural tendency to have more of a reaction to a familiar name coming in for a workout or signing a contract than we do to the same thing happening with a player we never heard of. I think these factors are all clouding our perceptions a bit and tricking us into thinking their is a huge shift in the way Belichick and the Patriots are doing things in Foxboro this year.

Re: Sharper and Hill Coming in Too

I can't work out if BB is fishing with a net or a hook right now.

I forgot who said it or where I heard it but does anyone remember a former Pat player who said BB used to bring in players for workouts all the time to basically scare the crap out of the current player at that position into working harder etc?

I'm paraphrasing a lot but the player said BB would do this a lot just to keep players always focused.

He must have caught BM rapping in his locker again with all the safeties being worked out the past week or 2.

Maybe its because Price is injured.

why, the last time I saw a mouth like that...it had a hook in it..

I seem to recall a report of Belichick bringing in a lineman for the purpose of getting into a fight during practice, in order to light a fire under the other players and get them more focused. I think it was from one of the books from last decade (Patriot Reign, Education of a Coach, Blueprint); can't recall which one.

my wife and I were happy for 20 years...then we met..
