Newton is a tremendous physical specimen, 6'6" runs a 4.5 forty and that gets you very far in the spread offense in college. It does not get you very far when a 6' 5" 300lbs defensive tackle runs you down. The defenses in the NFL are too fast and too big for a running QB to survive. Running QBs be their very nature get less calls than pocket passers when it comes to roughing etc. (just ask Vick). Like any gimmick it may last for a while maybe even a year (see Vince Young) but sooner or later, like the wildcat, the NFL figures it out.
Now add to the fact that Newton has questionable work ethic and has never had to make a second read in a football game, and I say bring him on! Twice a year would be great. He is gong to cost someone a general manager career, the only question left is which GM is going to make the mistake????????
People questioned Tebow as a thrower and he threw more than Newton. I just don't see anything more than another QB who was just a physical freak that ran over everybody. He aint doing that in the NFL.
People questioned Tebow as a thrower because his arm was mediocre at best and his mechanics were awful, including a windmill release Byron Leftwich would be proud of. Cam Newton has none of these problems. His arm is very strong, and his release is pretty compact and fluid.
If this guy fails at the professional level, it'll be because of his lack of mental toughness, bad decision making/bad understanding of the game. His mechanics and physical attributes won't be factors in an eventual downfall.
I do. He's going to suck.
you should let all the needy QB teams know this. The professional NFL scouts seem to be unaware.
I would much rather Newton in the AFC East than Luck or Barkley next year.
We need to get Luck next draft, I think Bills fans would shoot themselves.
Terrific point. Since we know that NFL scouts are never wrong and that no player, ever, has failed to meet expectations. Especially not first round quarterbacks.
More like a faster version of Rohan Davey. Bring him on.
There is far from a consensus regarding Jamarcus Newton amongst NFL scouts. And while the current rumors have him going 1st overall to Carolina, I think that's a pick made more out of a desire to get the fans excited over something than anything else. They're drafting the biggest name, not the best player.you should let all the needy QB teams know this. The professional NFL scouts seem to be unaware.

There will always be busts, If people knew who they were drafting would be easy.
