The Patriots can't defend running Quarterbacks.

He's exactly the kind of QB that BB dominates most easily.

Fitzy burned them with the run, Mccoy burned them, a back up for the Lions and Green Bay did it on numerous occasions.

this guy has thrown less than 300 passes in his career, slow down. I'd love to see him in the AFC East and get his head taken off his arrogant body.

Those aren't run first QB's. Your fear is not warranted.

Newton is a tremendous physical specimen, 6'6" runs a 4.5 forty and that gets you very far in the spread offense in college. It does not get you very far when a 6' 5" 300lbs defensive tackle runs you down. The defenses in the NFL are too fast and too big for a running QB to survive. Running QBs be their very nature get less calls than pocket passers when it comes to roughing etc. (just ask Vick). Like any gimmick it may last for a while maybe even a year (see Vince Young) but sooner or later, like the wildcat, the NFL figures it out.

Now add to the fact that Newton has questionable work ethic and has never had to make a second read in a football game, and I say bring him on! Twice a year would be great. He is gong to cost someone a general manager career, the only question left is which GM is going to make the mistake????????

Give me Cam Newton over Von Miller or Dareus trying to take Brady's head off.

I would love to see him in the AFC East. Newton is going to be an epic bust. Good luck running like a dump truck through the likes of Jerod Mayo and Brandon Spikes. Good luck throwing off your back foot against the likes of Darrelle Revis and Devin McCourty.

After watching Gruden with Newton I have no concerns about him at all. He's not stupid but he clearly doesn't do any homework and i think he is a guy who relies solely on his athleticism to get by. I wouldn't touch him in the first, i think he is a developmental project who will need 3-4 years minimum to be able to run a pro offense unless it is completely dumbed down for him. If the Bills choose him they are looking at another decade of incompetence.

I'd love to see the Bills take him and the Dolphins take Mallett.

It's fun when division opponents suck.

I do!! He'll either suck and give us easy wins against the Bills, or he'll be great and the Patriots will actually get a challenge for once. I never look forward to the Pats/Bills games. Maybe that will change.

at best he's Vince Young and with out a 2000 yerd RB and a top 10 defense in back of him he wont win as many games as Young has

I wouldn't mind him the AFCE - I thought the Gruden piece showed the shallowness of his preparation. No doubt about his athleticism and strength though, but the similarities between him and Young/Russel are strong enough to ring alarm bells. It's about Cam 24/7 and the money. They kept it simple for him at Auburn, so no audibles and play calling. That, defensive schemes from BB and Rex and the cold weather in the North East will keep him from being effective. I am guessing that the Jets are not looking to replace the Sanchize, though if they did Newton's not the choice, so the only takers would be the Bills or Phins.

Nice to see the board busy again.

Cam Newton ain't Aaron Rodgers. Let's not anoint the kid and put a bust in Canton before he's played a single down! ^_^

Quite honestly, if we assume that neither are busts, I think Von Miller on the Bills would pose more headaches for the Pats than Newton.

If I could put money on Cam Newton being a bust, I would... think Akili Smith type bust, especially if a team is stupid enough to anoint him the starter his rookie year. He's below average intelligence, has zero experience reading defenses, zero experience going through receiver progressions, and he's never even called a play that wasn't represented by a two digit number. He'll be lost 10 seconds after opening up his first NFL playbook.

In fact I'm hoping he falls to the Vikings at #12.

People questioned Tebow as a thrower and he threw more than Newton. I just don't see anything more than another QB who was just a physical freak that ran over everybody. He aint doing that in the NFL.

I see Newton as Michael Vick. He isn't quite as fast, but he is a much better passer.

I think it will take his first team dumping him though to get him to start a real work ethic going, just like Mike Vick.

Unless he gets a really great 1st coach or 1st team to beat him up on a daily basis to prepare, he won't go far any time soon.

People questioned Tebow as a thrower because his arm was mediocre at best and his mechanics were awful, including a windmill release Byron Leftwich would be proud of. Cam Newton has none of these problems. His arm is very strong, and his release is pretty compact and fluid.

If this guy fails at the professional level, it'll be because of his lack of mental toughness, bad decision making/bad understanding of the game. His mechanics and physical attributes won't be factors in an eventual downfall.

Look at how much Vince Young screwed up the Titans. I sure hope VY 2.0 goes 3rd as well.

I actually think Tebow will have a successful career... all that crap about arm mechanics is correctable... Tebow understands the game, knows how to run an offense and has that bit of a arrogant side to him (which is a very good quality in a quarterback). What is typically the downfall of quarterbacks that become busts is that they never grasp the game. They come into the league and the game is too fast for them, they never learn how to make quick decisions under pressure, and the game never slows down for them. Many many players can make accurate throws and wow guys with arm strength and accuracy at the combine and during their pro day workouts. However the best quarterbacks are the ones that don't let pressure, either real or perceived, affect their composure. Newton will probably always be a threat to run, but I don't think he'll ever be a proficient passer.
